This is another of the genres that are out of my comfort zone. I would like to read Lord of the Rings, though.
Science fiction was out of my comfort zone. I never read War of the Worlds, Star Wars or any of the typical books that pop into your mind. However, I found Sherrilyn Kenyon in Dec of 09. She writes fantasy/sci-fi/romance novels. Born of Night was so good I put my name on the list right away for the next book in the series. I'm now on the 3rd book.
I read more fantasy than science fiction, but my two favorites are classic science fiction - Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card and Dune by Frank Herbert. I highly recommend both. I would link them for you to their book pages, but the "add book/author" link isn't working for me at the moment.
I don't read much science fiction but I love fantasy such as The Lord of the Rings. Still, I would classify 2001: A Space Odyssey, as one of my favorite books, though I lost interest when I tried to read the sequels. I also really like The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (the novel) for its humor. I've read The War of the Worlds, but I find it a bit dull.
I LOVED The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I laughed all the way through it. I bought a book with all five of his trilogy. I gave it to Mom to read, and when she is through, she will give it to me. She gave it to my aunt first.
I really like Ender's Game, too. Have you read Ender's Shadow?I never really thought of The Lord of the Rings as science fiction. I always thought it was fantasy.
I've listened to the Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy several times. It is like a comfort listen. I haven't picked up the book because I listen to it so often.
Some Sci-Fi books got me started reading more, I could visualize some of the images being written. Mainly some Star Trek Books when I was younger, remember some of them were good. I've not read a Sci-Fi themed book probably since Middle School.
I am enjoying a science fiction book right now, The Day of the Triffids. This book involves giant walking carnivorous plants and a green meteor shower that makes everyone blind. It was written in the 50's and takes place at that time too.
Like Mr, I also enjoyed Stranger in a Strange Land. Ender's Game was pretty fantastic. Anything J.G. Ballard is recommended. William Gibson's Neuromancer really made an impact on me. Bruce Sterling has some really great works out there. Hmm... those are just a few that come to mind.
Neuromancer is a book I would like to get to. I've heard good things about this book.
I just seen Necromancer is on the 1001 books to read before you die list.
I recently read House of Stairs by William Sleator. It does not seem to be a well-known classic or anything, but it was great.
The House of the Scorpion.i don't typically read science fiction, but several of my students read this book and told me i HAD to read it. so i did. it's a YA and science fiction.
interesting.
It is good. I think the story loses some momentum in the middle of the book, but it has some interesting ideas about cloning, drug wars and the immigration. Worth a look.
It does sound good. I added it to my wishlist on my nook :)
Paperdoll. I'm not sure what it is about. I have only heard of people saying it was good. I don't read synopsis hardly ever. I just pick up the book and read. Either I love it on it's own or hate it on it's own with no influence. Well, besides from word of mouth. Like the host, I shut everthing out about it so the only thing I knew about was aliens and that was it.
