Did read Flowers for Algernon not sure if was an abridged version or not, another book in High School English Class. Some of them I've heard of and not read others I've not heard of.
I have read some of these and for school but their sexual content is laughable to me for example in The Great Gatsby or The Brave New World. I have seen romance novels with more sexual content than in either book.
There were other reasons for banning books as well. For instance, Boston banned the works of James Branch Cabell. And the sexual content of them is almost non-existant. The reason for the ban--Mr Cabell set his stories up following the "classical great literature" form, and then had his main hero be--the half human son of the devil. And he wasn't totally evil--he was just a regular person. The reasons for "banning" a book vary with the time period and what is considered "moral" by that generation/time.
Yes, of course. This list (and all of the others) is of books banned over the centuries for mainly for this reason for that time. Some of the books that were banned for this reason are not banned now. Banned doesn't mean that you can't buy it. A particular book was banned from just one school, library, or area or multiple. Not all of the US.

I haven't read it yet, but from what I've heard of Anne Frank: Diary of a Young Girl, I can't believe that there is anything wrong with it, including sexual content.

At least not anything that I can remember so if there was any it was minor.
There's a bit of the...ahem...womanhood stuff. But it was her diary. She didn't write it to be read by millions.
yes i agree. but nothing really about sex. i mean if you going to ban a book. make sure it has actual sex scenes in it.
The Diary of Anne Frank actually has two published versions. The first version has entries removed by Anne's father in which she discusses her crushes and budding sexuality. The poor girl went through puberty during the time they were in hiding. :( After Anne's father died, the diary was republished without censor.
the awakening is so mild from today's sexual content. i believe there is a kiss exchanged between the protagonist and a man she desires. gracious! and madame bovary? i suppose because she had an extramaritial affair. but seriously. i've read racier scenes in more recent fiction that knows no boundaries.

yes! and so much of it is insinuated and nothing really happens. and stephanie meyer is a mormon! the audacity!
LOL! That is so funny. Right you don't read anything. You have to be smart enough to know what happened in order for the bed to break.
