Hm, to hazard a guess maybe Michael does kill everyone on the boat and they take the boat to the island to get them off. I really have no idea and haven't really thought about it, just taken it for granted that they're back. I shall have to ponder this some more.
Can I through Penny out there? Widmore controls the boat. Penny didnt seem to know about the boat when she spoke to Charlie right before he drown... I doubt the freighter guys are going to save the losties (the engines on the boat are still down, and the captian wants to get away from the island if they ever get started up again) so what if Penny finally locates the boat herself, thus finding the island, and saves the day?!
That would be the perfect end to a love story and I really hope they do get back together.I certainly don't think the freighter guys want to save the losties, their plan I'm guessing is much more sinister although I can't say why. Man, this show does your head in!
You know what I hope they do, at the end of Lost I hope they do a whole show on answers to all these questions and show us the clues as well and what they were meant to be, I think that show would probably take about 5 hours!!
However it may put her dangerously close to Ben's evil clutches which would seriously shorten her life expectancy. Not so romantic then.
I wonder if island Ben knows Penny at all yet? I know that he does in the future/flashfowards, when he threatens her life to Widmore, but I wonder if he knows her now.... hmmm....
But still, its a good point! Does he know of her? was that part of the rules? no touching the kids in the Ben/Widmore war? Remember how sure he was that Keamy wouldnt kill Alex... and then how distraught he was after, saying 'he changed the rules'.....
You know that episode almost had me convinced that Ben wasn't the bad guy,but was just in some difficult circumstances that he was constantly forced to manipulate for the greater good. Then he threatens to kill Penny as quid pro quo and I realized that no, my earlier assessment still stands. He's evil.
I go between thinking the same thing Sherry, sometimes I feel a little sorry for him even but then he does something that makes me think he's evil again.
Ben is so hard to read, and I think that is why I like his character so much. Is he good, is he bad, is he helping us, or holding us back?
Do you remember the look on his face, when they killed Alex? He was ruined. Utterly distraught. I felt sooo bad for him, but then a second later, I was like, wait... uh-uh... he practically told Keamy to do it! He knew Keamys background! He's an ass. He thinks he's untouchable.
But I still think he is the man to be walking the island with at this moment. He knows so much, and we havent even scraped the surface yet!

Yeah,I agree, where ever Ben is on the island that's where I'd want to be.He knows the island and he has a strong preservationist instinct.
FINALLY, someone who likes Ben too!!! Ya know, I was thinking about why Desmond isn't a part of the Oceanic 6, cause if Penny were to save everyone, he would soo be there. I will be sooo sad if he doesn't find Penny. When I saw that episode when Alex died, I felt so bad for Ben, when I heard that he was going to kill Penny, I wasn't thinking "ASS!" I was more so thinking "DESMOND!" I wonder if she's actually going to die. And what was up with Ben saying "We both now I can't do that" when Witmore said why don't you kill me? What is keeping him from killing him? Ya, what exactly does he know about Penny? And Witmore? Ben is the character I want to know the most about, because we know like squat about him.
I was thinking that perhaps they both cannot die (Ben and Widmore). Maybe they are under the islands protection somehow... As in when Mr Friendly (Tom) told Micheal that he wouldnt be able to die. ??? Im not really sure. That whole thing threw me for a loop. When Alex was killed, Ben said "He Changed The Rules".. was he talking about Jacob or Widmore???
{shaking my head.. too much information to ponder)
{shaking my head.. too much information to ponder)
lol. Then is all the Oceanic 6 protected? Or is it only certain people? Ya, who was he talking about when he said that? I have too many questions and not enough answers.
I have too many questions and not enough answers. So it's pretty much a typical episode of Lost then?
I think he was talking about Widmore changing the rules. When Ben confronts Widmore at his home, Ben says, "you changed the rules." To which Widmore responds with something like, "no, Ben, you did."
Good question. The rules seem to be related to not killing the other's children. Maybe they agreed that their daughters were off limits. What if it's a time traveling dilemma? Like, if you go back in time and kill someone's father, for example, then they wouldn't be born. If you were never born, then what?
The same could hold true for future generations. So, if Ben kills Penny, then her child won't be born, etc. It could have serious implications.
Hey!Another good theory. So it's more a matter of cause and affect then as it relates to time travel rather than specific rules. That fits rather neatly, doesn't it.
Yes, I think your right. Hmmmm killing people off has SOMETHING to do with it, but I don't think it's the whole picture. I'm really interested in Ben's relationship with Witmore, I think it's one of the biggest pieces of the puzzle, then everything else will fall into place, but then again, that's not Lost.
Natalia, I like that theory. the rules were put in place to protect the generations... the main characters/players/pawns in the war of the island must be sure they do nothing to comprimise the future.. but then, does that mean they also know what happens in the future? Or are they only concerned with what they do in the past affecting the present time???
Lori, you read my mind. I was thinking that perhaps they know Penny's children, and future. Maybe they all know.
You know Lori,I was wondering the same thing, especially in relation to Richard seeking John out,but if they can time travel then prersent day Richard, being aware of John and all his info (they have all the crash survivor's info)could go back to where John was born and check things out.It would appear that they had fore knowledge when in fact they were going back to get more of a handle on who John really was and what his role was in terms of the island.Whatever Richard learned was upsetting to him but would imply a lack of fore knowledge.I think the theory of time travel makes sense in light of the "test"John was given.
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. Oh, maybe it's because it doesn't seem like Locke at all to choose the knife?
Not to put a damper on our Richard/Locke discussion.... But....
I was wondering.
In this past episode, we see our O6 at the press conference. The host shows a photo of the O6 getting off a raft (didnt appear to be the one that Sayid/Dainel is using from the frieghter, but then again, its the only raft they have at the moment, right?!) on an asian island. The host said something about them claiming that a fishing boat crashed on shore of the island and had some meager supplies and the raft, which is how the survivors managed to excape. (not a hundred percent certain of the details of this, but you get my point...) From here, the people who helped them called the coast guard and that is how they were picked up.
I think this is an outright lie. But they have a photo of them on a raft. So how did the O6 get into that raft and get off the island? Any ideas?
If it was the raft from the frieghter, I would have to assume that no one from the freighter survived, otherwise they would contact the media and notify them that their story was false! What do you think?

That was my thinking Emma.I don't trust any of the info of how they got off the island as they are lying about so much at this point.I am curious tho as to how these 6 manage to come together to be rescued and why the necessity for the lies. What's at stake?
Sherry, I am really intrigued about that too, Jack is always having such high standards and for him to lie like this is so out of character. And for people who wanted to get off the island so badly, the 06 didn't look happy to be back at all...
I wonder if it's Witmore's group or Ben's group. And how do they actually get there? I honestly don't think they are telling the truth with this fishing boat. This island is a huge secret, it has something like a force field around, and the only people who want off is are the ones who I don't have any resources! That could've happened. I wonder how they really found them. And why are they in shock???
You know Lorena I hadn't even thought about how principaled Jack is in relation to the lying. It could explain in part his "breakdown"shown in earlier flashbacks. He always feels so responsible for everyone's welfare.I'm with you Emma,I wonder who is ultimately the group responsible for getting them off and if it means that they are the "good guys" or not.
Sherry, I was reading this thread back and my jaw dropped. You and I almost hit the nail on the head with posts #25 and #27....
