Tilly (tillygreene) At the RT BOOKlovers Convention the fabulous Laura found a June copy of the BOOKreviews and Zandia was in there! It received a **** [4 star] review from Keitha Hart! Woohoo! Here's a snippet:

"This wildly entertaining story incorporates romance, hot, talk-dirty-to-me love scenes and commentary on women's role in society. It's fascinating to watch the protagonists develop a lasting relationship."

I'm still bouncing around with this one!

Chloe (countessofblooms) I'm curious to see what people think about the island's magical healing properties.

Locke was able to walk again, Rose's cancer went into remission. But then what about the pregnant women dying and Jack getting appendicitis?

That's a huge thread that I'd like to see an answer to.

Lori (tnbbc) I am pretty sure that Jack got sick because he trying to leave the island, and i dont think it wants him to. Roses comment to Bernard really pinpointed that for me. "You're not supposed to get sick, the island makes you better'.

I think the island is retalitating against Jack, warning him in a way.. sort of like - Hey. Stay put. You're not meant to leave.

Keep in mind Ben grew that tumor too while on the island. Bad boy, doing bad things at the time... I think the island was trying to slow him down as well. (unless it is one of many nasty side effects from leaving and returning to the island time and time again)

As for the pregnant woman, the internal reproductive organs seemed to be aging very rapidly, didnt they? When Richard showed the films to Juliette when he was trying to recruit her, she said they looked like they belonged in 60 year old women. I am not sure if that is somehow linked with the time difference on the island or not, but it seems to be part of the reason they have such a hard time bringing a baby to term. That, and the fact that thier bodies see the baby as a foriegn object and attack it until it kills both mother and fetus....

here is the movie website, I can't wait till they have more stuff on it!

message 5: by Lori (new)

Lori Hmm, I never thought of the notion that the pregnant women see the fetus as a foreign object and wage war. That makes alot of sense tying in with the magical immune systems the island creates.

What I find fascinating is who the island decides to heal, and who to make sick.

message 6: by Lorena (new)

Lorena (lorenalilian) Let's don't forget that Jin was sterile before and now they have a baby on the way...

message 7: by Lori (new)

Lori (tnbbc) Yeah.. that is a bit of a giant question mark, isnt it? someone somewhere had said that they thought the island time was a time in the past... as in before Locke was in a wheelchair, before Rose had her cancer.... but that wouldnt explain Jin.... would it?

(scratches her head in confusion)

message 8: by Lorena (new)

Lorena (lorenalilian) Unless evil Juliet lied to keep Sun in the Island and study her ...

message 9: by Sherry (new)

Sherry But Jin wasn't the one with the problem getting pregnant,it was the husband (can't remember his name but I feel sure you all do :))Women can get pregnant, they just can't carry to term, and an over active immunity doesn't account for the reproductive organs aging. It must be connected to the Island's time differences. There seems to be some strong pull that affects time, distance and location.
What about those people, who when they get off the island suffer from weird flashbacks in time, that eventually lead to seizures and they die if they don't kill themselves first?

message 10: by Lorena (new)

Lorena (lorenalilian) Jin is the husband, Sun is the wife ... ;o)

message 11: by Sherry (new)

Sherry Well on the bright side I remembered his name after all :)Just attributed it to the wrong person.

message 12: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) There's a lot of good theories here, I never even thought that Jack getting sick was because the Island wanted him to stay. And the pregnant women makes a lot of sense.
