Tell us about yourself! What is your favorite YA book?

Like a lot of other people I would say that Twilight was/is my favorite YA book. I gage a books effect on me by how long it takes me to feel like picking up anther book. Most of the time I can get right into a new series or book. After Twilight it took me three months to want to read again. Meyer has the ability to write what you wish other authors would pay more attention to.

About me...I was born in 1975.With my dad in the air force I have lived in New Mexico, Germany, Greece (Crete), and Nevada. I currently live in UT with my husband who works in administration at a college and our four children. My girls are 11 and 12 and my boys are 8 and 6. The girls love YA books and I love that we can talk about them and enjoy them together. I also substitute solely at their school and it's great knowing enough about current and classic books to give recommendations to the kids.

I have a BS in Marriage, Family, and Human Development. In the fall I am going back to school to get my grades 1-6 teacher's license--I will end up with a 2nd BS degree. Life's full of surprises! I hope to get a job teaching either 5th or 6th graders.

I'm excited to have some great discussions here in this YA group. Add books and comments for all of us to enjoy and learn from!

Nikoya (ariavalluna) | 1 comments I was born in 1976 in California, moved to Arkansas 10 years ago, have a wonderful husband and daughter. I work part time at Borders, sell PL Candles, and stay at home to raise my daughter; so I'm pretty busy. I'm, also, trying to get back to school to finish my AA so I can head towards becoming a Librarian. I spend a lot of time reading, watching movies, gardening, doing home renovations (we have a house built 1929)and spending time with my family

However, I LOVE reading and I really enjoy YA books. I really love the Dark Angel series by Meredith A. Pierce; Harry Potter, Go Ask Alice, and the Language of Goldfish by Zibby O'neal. Right now I am reading the Libby Bray series, Twilight Series and Artemis Fowl.

Ashley (readerandwriter) Hello. My name is Ashley and I am 22 years old. I was born in 1986. I currently reside in Walnut Creek, California with my mom, my two cats(Asher and Tinker), and my grandfather. I'm currently in college studying to be a teacher. I plan on teaching elementary(4th or 5th). In my free time I love to read, write, and do word puzzles. The genres I like are memoirs, YA,GLBT, fantasy, and lately I've been getting into Sci-Fi thanks to the Uglies series. My favorite YA book has to be The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. That was an incredible book.

It's too bad I wasn't able to find this group in time. I see that you read The Host during the month of May. I just got the book yesterday from Costco. Oh well.

Haley (b0pp) Hi. My name is Haley and I'm 27. I live in Studio City, CA. I am a clerk in a library so I am surrounded by books everyday. I'm so glad I found goodreads.com so I can manage all the books I have read and want to read! This site is fantastic. I would have to say that sci-fi & fantasy are my favorite genres. I love children's and young adult books and I don't care too much about non-fiction. Some of my favorite authors are Jim Butcher, Nina Kiriki Hoffman, Poppy Z. Brite, Laurell K. Hamilton, Neil Gaiman, Gregory Maguire, and J.K. Rowling, to name only a few!

Ashley | 2 comments I'm Ashley and I live in SLC, Ut with my husband and cat. I'm trying to read as many fun books as I can until I start nursing school this fall and I have no time for recreational reading. I love everything outdoorsy and If it paid and was family friendly like nursing, I'd be a river guide forever. I also enjoy reading(duh), blogging, scootering, running, and travel. I LOVE Young adult fiction, of course. My favorite of my latest reads is definitely The Host, by Stephanie Meyer. I enjoyed it twice as much as her Twilight series. (if you read my review of them you'll see I wasn't a fan of Bella.) But my ultimate favorite is Harry Potter. I'm really into Sci Fi right now from reading The Host and now the Uglies series (like many of you). I'm a science nerd.
I don't know that I'll be able to follow the book list, but I wanted to still be a part of the group for ideas of what to read next! Thanks!

Anna Hardesty (annerszz101) Ha, k, well here I go.

My name's Anna. I'm like, way younger than the other people who have done this introduction thing, haha. But I've been dating my boyfriend for almost a year now, and I love him a lot. :D Reading is my passion. I love the Twilight books, everything by sarah Dessen, Nicolas Sparks, & Meg Cabot.

:D

message 9: by Court (new)

Court Hey, my name's Courtney. I was born in 1995, which makes me 12. I've lived in Florida my whole (very short) life. My favorite authors are Ellen Hopkins, Stephenie Meyer,Sarah Dessen, and Mark Zusak. I really like traveling and reading (but you could've guessed that)and i write a little bit (a very little). Non-fiction books are pretty boring to me, so I don't read them. What else... and I like blogging (a lot) but I use this sort of blogging community its mycyc.com .Anwayz, Thanks for reading this.

Welcome all you newcomers! Thanks for letting us get to know you better.

message 11: by Connor (new)

Connor (topobear) | 1 comments Hi, my name is Hannah. I'm 26 and live in Los Angeles. I really enjoy YA literature. I'm starting to read the Twilight series, I've only heard good things about that series.

message 12: by Amy (new)

Amy Wheatley Hale (awheatleyhale) | 4 comments I've been on this group for a while and haven't intro'd myself yet.
I'm Amy, 26, in Morristown, TN. I'm a high school librarian (1st year after 3 years at a K-8 school). I chose my career partially so I could read my guts out and kind of feel like I'm working instead of just indulging my addiction to print :) It's hard for me to pick favorites when it comes to books/authors. Check out my shelves to see what I like.

message 13: by Kristen (last edited Feb 25, 2009 02:17AM) (new)

Kristen (xoxo41) | 2 comments HS freshman who loves to write fiction! I'm an avid/obsessed writer.

My favorite book would probably be Twilight-Eclipse. I am not a fan of Breaking Dawn.

I also love the Gemma Doyle series! Rebel Angels was my favorite.

I am either reading or writing and love to talk.

(:

message 14: by Jamie (new)

Jamie (jamiephanekham) | 1 comments I love to read and write and am on my middle school newspaper. I love just about any type of book. I like Steinbeck, Pearl S. Buck, Jane Austen, and M.P. Haddix. I have just finished reading Twilight and To Kill a Mockingbird. :D

message 15: by Hannah (new)

Hannah Hi! My name's Hannah (and I can see there's another Hannah up there, haha). I'm kinda younger than most of you guys, I was born in 1990, so that makes me 18 this year.

My fave YA is the Gemma Doyle trilogy. Apart from that, I also like the Twilight series (I like Twilight best out of all the 4 books), Harry Potter series, and Sweep series. At least, that's all I can think of right now :)

message 16: by Jaemi (new)

Jaemi | 1 comments I'm Jaemi, and I love YA books. I was reading them before most people seemed to know what they were (grew up with a Librarian mom) and read more YA than Adult fiction. I find them to be better books.

Thirteen Reasons Why is my current reigning favorite. You Remind me of You, Violet & Claire, Twilight, and the perks of being a wallflower are the other top contenders.

message 17: by Charlizechat (new)

Charlizechat | 10 comments I'm Charlize and I'm an on/off-again grad student. YA fiction is one of my 'escapes' and I'm currently eager to gobble up a lot of it. I'm very behind on all the big series like "Twilight" & the Gemma Doyle books but hope to get to snuggle up with them someday-- that said, I'll probably wait until I can get really cozy and take my time with them!

My competing fave YA books to date would be Violet & Claire, Devilish, and Enthusiasm.

message 18: by Mary (new)

Mary (bookmonster79) | 2 comments Hello All! My name is Mary and I am 29 years old. I fell in love with YA fiction while looking for things to read to overcome my Post-Potter Depression. I used to be really hung up on adult fiction, but found that YA fiction tends to have richer stories that address everyday concerns and aspects of life without the weightiness of the Adult genre. Also, I find them to be more "real" when it comes to love and relationships because most of the time the physical aspects of relationships are left to the imagination.
My current faves: Harry Potter Series, Inheritance Cycle, All of Tamora Pierce's books, The Land of Pellinor series by Allison Croggon, The Legend of Earthsea books by Ursula K. Leguin, Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan, the Leven Thumps Books by Obert Skye, and the Magyk Series by Angie Sage.

Areese | 1 comments Hi everyone! Just joined in. I'm Areese and has been converted to a "Young Adult" eversince I started with mt Twilight series. I haven't read much yet but am slowly keeping up the pace. My fave now is the Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare. I'm a full time mother to a 7 yr old daughter and a 5 yr old son, who by the way, love to hear the YA books that I read as their bedtime stories(with a lot of editing, of course)and a wife to a busy lawyer, who also waits to be updated with the stories I currently read. And now, I'm looking forward to more wonderful book ideas from you. :-)
