Something to do with the Ides of March (Could be Julius Caesar, Shakespeare, or the Roman god Mars)Read a book about rebirth, resurrection or reincarnation.
Read something from ALA's 2010 Rainbow Project recommendations.
I know that "read a banned book" has been used before, but it's a category that can't be overused, in my opinion.
Any more suggestions? The Spring Challenge will be starting on March 1 and ending on May 31.
I'll post the categories in a day or so.
April is National Poetry Month in the U.S., so perhaps something to do with that? Also, in support of Melissa's suggestion, May 15th is the UN's International Day of Families.
I've just posted the Spring Challenge. Feel free to add more suggestions. They will be used in future challenges.
Read a book that was self-published. Read a book set in a country that doesn't exist any more.
Read a manga or a graphic novel.
=)
I like all of Ralph's suggestions from message #10.Read a book with the words June, July, or August in the title.
Go to your "to read" book shelf and note the total number of books there. Now go to a random number generator (here's one , but you can google for many more), plug in the numbers "1" and your total number of to-reads and have the generator give you a random number. Read the book that corresponds with that number.
Read a book featuring a bisexual character. Some lists mentioned on the recommendation thread in this group:
Across the Page: Bisexual Literature
loveyoudevine.com
Robyn Ochs' list of best bisexual fiction
Bi Bookstore
And, for what it's worth, Wikipedia also has a list under media portrayals of bisexuality.
July 1 is Canada Day. Read a book by a Canadian author.
July 14 is Bastille Day. Read a book by an author born in France after 1789.
In honor or Herman Mellville's Aug 1 birthday, read a book about obsession.
Read a book about the Vietnam War.
MTV was launched in August of 1981. The "M" stood for music. Read a biography or autobiography of someone who made a living in the music business, either performing or behind the scenes.
And of course, June is Gay Pride month in the US and quite a few other countries. How about some LGBT non fiction?
Is there a challenge for fall or winter in the works? I can't find anything posted, but maybe I missed it.
I haven't started a new challenge since there didn't appear to be any interest, but I'll be happy to start a new one if you'd like.
Yeah! I like these, helps me to branch out into my to-read list.I just looked back at the last two and I really liked what you had. I can't remember why I didn't do the Spring one, great categories in that one.
New ideas:
Read a book by an author from your home state.
Read a book translated from Spanish.
Read a M/M or a W/W romance.
Read a book about rural LGBT people.
Read a history book at LGBT people.
Read a LGBT mystery or horror book.
If I can think of others, will post them.
