I read this book awhile ago and have to say that I loved the first chapter. What a way to open up the story. lol. Great book!
I love how this is a book where you think you're getting one thing and then you get something completely different.
http://www.avclub.com/articles/horns-... the nursing supervisor on at work last night drew my attention to this interview with Hill about Horns, HSB and Locke & Key, I think it does have some Horns spoilers but not for HSB or L&K.
My problem with discussing HORNS is wondering where to start. I will say I love Joe's little perks...for those of you who have the HC, he has a message in morse code on the endpapers. Then, Ig drives a Gremlin. And Ig's initials. And his girlfriend's & her sister's names. All through the book he adds these interesting & clever little touches...and that's on top of a great story. Another reason why I think he's such a generous guy!
Yeah...I didn't even get the Hannity reference till I saw it pointed out in a review!Hey everybody...let's make sure we click off on the update feed when we post here so we don't spoil anything for anyone who hasn't read it, ok?
Did anyone notice that he even brought in the main character from Heart-Shaped Box? There's a scene where some kids are listening to Judas Coyne on a boom box. Ig doesn't think much of his music.

I have to go back and savor it slowly the next time around. I'm definitely due for a reread! :)
I finished Horns last night. In the wee hours of the morning. I really enjoyed it and could not stop until I had read the last pages. Now I just have to absorb everything.
Finished tonight, and I just gushed love in my review. I think this is by far his best to date, although I really really liked HSB too. :)
One thing I noticed was the name spellings... I didn't mention this in my review, but I wondered about it...Perrish
Terry
Merrin
Derrick
To be human is to err? LOL
I read HSB back when it first came out because I thought it had something to do with Joe Lansdale/Dawn, then found out Joe was SK's son... I started reading SK in 1984 with Pet Sematary and am glad to have gotten a good start with Joe Hill (King). Anyone ever read the books of Owen or Rachel?BTW, to stay OT, I'm about 2/3 of the way through, just "watched" what happened on the fence with the cat and the pitchfork.
I just finished Horns last week and I absolutely loved it. I noticed it got a lot of mixed reviews and average rating which I don't get. In my opinion it's the best book I've read since his father's "The Waste Lands". I'm currently about halfway through NOS4A2 and I'm loving it! I've liked everything I've read from Hill so far including 20th Century Ghosts and the fantastic Locke and Key! I've got Heart Shaped Box on my shelf and can't wait to tear into it too!
My youngest son just finished reading this and really liked it with the exception of one complaint. He says in chapter 10 (somewhere) Ig "screams" and Hill wrote "eeeeeeee" to express it. When he read that it completely pulled him out of the story and he hasn't stopped griping about it since. It's funny to me how much that one thing bugs him.
He thought it was great otherwise, but did wish for a more resolved ending. I wonder if it has something to do with age, but I like unresolved endings.
I liked the stuff with the treehouse of the mind and have no problem with being left with something to think on but I confess myself a bit confused. The stuff with the treehouse was a little trippy and I was curious to what supernatural forces were at play there. God? The Devil? Seemed a little of both but maybe I just didn't get it. Still it didn't tarnish the book in anyway for me! I loved it!

If you have not yet read Horns, I advise backing out now. This will be a major spoiler thread. Anything in that book is fair game for discussion here.
Note that I won't be checking back in this thread until after I've finished reading it.
