I read my first erotica novel in 2009 and I could not believe how much I truely loved it. Sexy, damn good writing and fast. What more could a girl want?!

I don't mind erotica, it just has to be smart, well written, erotica... If Im reading 'porn'...(for lack of a better word...), I don't want it to feel like I'm reading 'Porn'... lol. Make sense? Addiction came very close to what I would look for in this genre... Thea Devine, on the other hand, is awful... Or a tleast the 2 books I've attempted to read were...

yes, It was very good my first Erotica so as I was reading my jaw was on the floor. It has m/m/f.
So if you are not okay with that you will not like it.

I too love the Albright Sisters series by Jess Michaels. The only one of those I haven't read yet is Taboo. I loved reading Blood Red by Sharon Page, and there are two more (so far) in the series that I have yet to read. However, that is REALLY a guilty pleasure for me as it is hard core and you don't mind one scene of m/m and some scenes of m/m/f in it as well.

Many people like Laura Leigh... I don't have anything nice to say, so I won't say it, just like my mom taught me, but I do want you all to know that it is just my opinion. I hear her paranormal erotic Breeds series is good though.

My favs so far are:

I just started reading erotica based on one of my friend's loaning me a couple of books and telling me to try them. I was totally unsure. I have found favorite authors and authors I personally avoid... just started reading this genre in sep./oct.

Erotic isn't my favorite sub-genre, but I like to indulge in it on occasion. The best erotic novel I've read so far is Jane and the Sneaky Dom by Hannah Murray. The hero is absolutely scrumptious.;-) I thought the first three books in Lora Leigh's Breeds series were pretty good, particularly The Man Within, as was Caine's Reckoning, the first book in Sarah McCarty's Hell's Eight series.

I agree with Shell that erotica needs to be smart and the story must have substance in order to be sexy. That said, the last books I have read within this genre are the Beauty Series by Anne Rice - writing as A.N. Roquleaure and retelling the traditional story of 'Sleeping Beauty'.

Personally, I was a HUGE fan of her work (until she became fanatically religious) and I only bought the Beauty books because I loved her writing. They are totally S&M , m/m, f/m, f/f and bordering on 'porn'... but *cringe" I can't say I disliked them... the writing and story line did keep my interest (I did read all 3 books, I confess) but I have not reread them since. I prefer something a bit less intense and 'dark'.... I just bought JR Ward’s "Dark Lover" yesterday, and I will be purchasing “Everything Forbidden” the next time I’m at the bookstore!

I only read the first Beauty. I just could get over the abuse factor. I mean they really are broken characters. I went into it after reading my only other Rice work Belinda also under pen name.
Beauty was a huge shock for me just not my cup of tea. I do however think Rice is an amazing writer.

I had a friend try and read that series too... she couldn't finish book one either and did not recommend that I try it.

Yes, the abuse factor bugged me too, and it is definitely not my thing.... if it wasn't for the fact that Anne Rice wrote them, I don't think I would have gotten through the first one. I bought them as a set, and I guess I kept reading because I was a fan of hers and could not think of putting aside one of her books. The story also was quite engaging and I wanted to see it through.... I also wanted Beauty to KICK his ass at some point!

In the end of the 3rd book she ends up with the Prince? I read the 1st book only.

I only read it once, and it's been a while (late 90's)..... and I honestly can't remember how it actually ends! I just remember blushing a lot while reading them, and wanting her to just kick his butt already for what he put her through. I do believe she is released at one point in the second book, and chooses to return because she is so immersed in that world that she longs for it… as I recall.
Ok, now I will probably re-read them once I finish the Outlander books (reading the FC right now).

The reviews for these books are all over the map, but this one is my fav:

I loved all the DG books. I do recall FC has the gathering that does drag a bit. Enjoy Jamie and Claire.

Kelly, I actually enjoyed the Gathering... it's the mundane, routine, day to day stuff that I can do without. I think there's a bit too much of that in FC... wiping runny noses, laundry, cooking, gathering plants, cleaning the surgery, and on and on.

I haven't read the Beauty series, but have heard about them. Back in highschool, girls had to snuggle them in from the US.. cause they were illegal in Canada... pfft!!! Figures. I don't think they are anymore though.

Why were they illegal? Or is it just the content because of being in high school?

I was at the used books store by my work, and there they were on the shelf!!! Didn't really expect to see them in a used books store...

The Beauty series was probably my 1st foray into Erotica. Given to me by a friend in college who always had great suggestion (ie Memoirs of a Geisha or The Nanny Diaries) and I was a little shocked bcs she didn't prepare me for the content, but I loved them!

I was surprised a few months ago that B & N now carries EC books, not a ton of titles but they do have some in store now. Kindle also has EC books available too... which I love that fact!

No but I see her name come up here at GR she has fans for sure... that first book you listed, I am tempted to read. I can't remember what reviews were saying on that one

I've read Emma Holly's Beyond Duet. The first one Beyond Innocence was just OK for me, but I thought the second one, Beyond Seduction was awesome.

They both got great reviews on amazon and here, so...Can't wait till they get here!

she is very hit/miss for me. i was one of the few who wasnt very impressed by her historicals but I know loads loved it. the only series of hers that I like is her Daemon series

I read some weird reviews abt the Demon series, so thought I would hold off on those until I saw if i liked her or not.

hahahaha...um, from what I've read Emma Holly is pretty hardcore Erotica! Menage's everywhere and some m/m action. I am reading by her right now and i'm only like 70 or so pages and yeah...it's steamy.

Actually, the Beyond Duet books are borderline erotic. I'd probably call it more of a super-steamy mainstream HR. It's very hot, but nothing kinky that I recall.

So I have just started, and almost finished.

I have finally found an erotica, I can get into... So much so I went and ordered all the rest of them

So I have read the entire Mona Lisa Series....



The first 3, I thought were fantastic, the 4th really fell flat for me... Still definatly worth the read however.. If you can handle anything other than monogamy, and can appreciate the 'strange'

I am going to read her next series as well, cause she is a very good writer.
