Fuck that shit. Come to the midwest, biotch.Sorry, I've been drinking and it's after midnight.
I've never been to Portland but it looks nice on the Anthony Bourdain episode. Have fun, Char.
You MUST go to Powell's Bookstore, Charissa. It is a whole city block, all four sides around, and four stories tall. New and used books, and NO SALES TAX!!!!
Hmmm, that's my anniversary weekend, but I might be able to convince my husband that we should celebrate in Portland, at Powell's...

I'm drinking too, and it's almost midnight, and Charissa you should meet me and my friends for drinks in SF on June 7 for my 30th. (We can make yours club soda.)
Powell's, hell yeah! Don't be too macho to take a map. It's got something like twelve rooms on four (five?) floors.I live here in PDX, so let me know if you want a tour guide. I love showing people around this place!
Some other suggestions: Multnomah Falls (a bit out of town, but not far). Pix Patisserie (stellar dessert place!). Doug Fir Lounge (for the restaurant upstairs or the music shows downstairs). Japanese Garden (I've still got free tix around somewhere, and I really need to renew my membership). The tram. Ira Keller fountain (downtown...fountain might be a bit of an understatement). Council Crest Park (amazing views of the city and the mountains). The tram. A day at the coast is totally worth the drive. Velveteria (a storefront 'museum' dedicated to velvet paintings).
And food recs will be request-based. Cheap? Classic diner? Thai? Mexican? Pac-NW cuisine? Seafood? I do, however, recommend the food-cart-land for a weekday lunch. It's downtown between 9th and 10th and...Alder and Washington? Within a couple of blocks of Alder/Washington, anyhow.
We all know you'll be hitting up Voodoo Donut...huzzah! But also, you've got to try Apizza Scholls - Portland's very own Pizza Nazi. He only lets you order 3 toppings and only one can be a meat. Also, get there early, when he's out of pizza he closes. Pizza mit uns!
awesome sauce, people.
Anthony, I would love to hang with you one of these days. Maybe I'll return to Chicago and we can tour the art museum together. You can hear me curse in person about modern art. Warning, it gets nasty pretty fast. Heh.
Our lovely Amelia is planning on taking me to Powells and VooDoo Donut... I'll definitely be checking out the other ideas ya'll have thrown out there.
Lisa... maybe we should have you meet us for coffee one day!
Sarah... oh I would love to come and be part of your birthday soiree! Let me know where ya'll are gathering and I'll be there with bells on. Or maybe bellbottoms.
NB... Pizza Nazi... sounds dangerous. I better bring my jack boots.

The Portland Saturday Market, the Water Front Park, and Salmon St Springs Fountain are fun. The Portland Water Bureau would be glad to mail you a downtown fountain walking tour (PDF) map. You can find the link at http://www.portlandonline.com/WATER/i...Peeps in Pdx go wacky with good weather and June is usually beautiful with much fun to be had.
And there is still fun to be had on Stark before the total encroachment of the Pearl.
Books and gay bars and fountains of fun!!
Ha, that would be a great civic motto, Willie...Come to Portland! Books and gay bars and fountains of fun!
How did I forget Saturday Market and Voodoo Donut?Though Saturday Market is under construction right now, which makes it a bit hard to navigate and more crowded. It's still pretty awesome. (But my massage therapist there has gone away, and I don't know how to find him! Phillip, where are you?)
I'm not the organizing type, but I like to show up. When you firm up evening plans for hitting the Portland night life or Powell's, let me know. I'd love to hang out.
I love Multnomah Falls by the way. I used to have a giant black and white photograph of it from below framed and hung in my bathroom. I try and stop to see it every time I drive up the Columbia River Gorge. I like to hike up to the bridge and feel the spray coming off it. So magical.
Clack... sounds good. I'll definitely post as things get more solidified.

faboo! I'll wear my red satin Vera Wang dress with velvet straps. And some kind of retro shoe. It'll be fun!
Hey ya'll... So... I've made my final plans for Portland. I'll be staying at the Hotel DeLuxe in downtown Portland from Wednesday June 18 through Saturday June 21, checking out Sunday by noon. Anyone who wants to come to town and trip around with the fabulous Amelia and me is welcome. For those who work a 9-5 Friday night might be the best night to catch us. Perhaps a meet up in the bar of the DeLuxe at 7pm could be in order. I'll buy anyone who shows up a drink, or a nosh, or a lollipop. And if you have to fly on a plane to get to Portland to meet us I'll get you a hooker and some crack.
Okay, not really some crack.
Come see us!!!!
By the way... I guess I missed your birthday Sarah. I hope it was a good one!!!

That would be awesome!!! Wow... I guess we should pack warm. It was 85 degrees here yesterday... I forget what it's like in the PNW in the summer... it makes my celtic blood happy.
Hey, I might be up for a drink tomorrow evening at the DeLuxe...is there a secret password so I'd know it was you all?
Lisa, tomorrow night we'll be at The Thirsty Lion to hear Seizure Romero's band, they're good, I've gone before. Meet us there for a drink around 9ish!!!!!
I may do that. Can't promise anything, but it's a possibility. I've got a short red bob. I'll probably be wearing a dark red t-shirt with a girl on a swing (it's supposedly "crazy t-shirt day" at work tomorrow, but the folks who work in residential treatment have a bit more leeway than I do in foster care/outpatient, so I'll probably wear that one, as long as it's clean).
We'll keep an eye out for you, but I have you down for Sat. for sure! Yay!!!
Don't forget to take Char to Stumptown for coffee! And I used to love Dot's, too....the Gentle Ben, mmmmmmmmmm
Amelia... that's tonight, not tomorrow night, silly rabbit.
Today is Friday. Tomorrow is Saturday.
Drinks tomorrow night here at the deLuxe before dinner at the Marrakesh!!!

Oh, okay, well, I'm picking up my crew at 6 at my place, but our reservation is at 8pm (7pm wasn't available for that many people), so we can totally meet up there!
Did you get that Jacks? The DeLuxe is on 15th between Morrison and Yamhill. Just take Morrison straight up (East) and turn left onto 15th...you can't miss it on your right.

I think I'll see if Chris and I can get a room there, too...

Ooooh, going posh, how better to celebrate the anniversary than a romantic night on the Alfred Hitchcock floor...ask for something a little more romantic, will ya?
