I just finished reading and watching Persuasion. Both were excellent. I have the impression that when someone adapts a Jane Austen novel it is because they love her writing so much. In general, the adaptations I have seen (Sense & Sensibility and A&Es Pride & Prejudice) are very true to the books with much dialogue lifted directly from the novels. This 1995 BBC version of Persuasion had a little twist in that one small scene was taken from the deleted Chapter 10 of Part 2. This chapter Austen removed and rewrote was included at the end of the copy I had. Had it not been published I would have thought the filmaker just added it to the story.
