"He pointed his Cherokee into the high desert. He drove until he arrived in St.George, Utah, just before dawn, picked a motel that wasn't part of a chain, and requested a room as far away from Interstate 15 as possible." - Stephen White, Dead Time (2008)
I grew up in St. George, Utah so I find it funny that the characters keep spending time in that area. I enjoyed the mention of Sam Purdy's stop in St. George as well as Dr. Gregory's description of an LDS (Mormon) church building:
"My short drive down Topeka Drive started beside a large LDS center - I guessed it was a stake; it looked too big to be a ward, but a tad too modest to be a temple." - Stephen White, Dead Time (2008)
It would be interesting to know Stephen White's connection to the LDS Church - as it seems to keep coming up in his books. Perhaps it's nothing more than having down so much research when writing Higher Authority.

I want to point out that this discussion is still open to discussing other aspects of "Dead Time" not dealing with the LDS church :-) Dead Time doesn't actually have much to do with the church like Higher Authority but the references to the LDS buildings and Sam Purdy's stop in St.George stood out to me. Dead Time wasn't one of my favorite Alan Gregory books - I liked Dry Ice better.
In Dead Time, Alan and Lauren are apart. Sam Purdy is suspended. Alan starts investigating something for his ex with Purdy's help. The story mostly takes place at the Grand Canyon and in California.

The Siege was really good and Kill Me if you haven't read that one. Dry Ice is good too, but Dead Time is my least favorite of the recent books.

I liked Dry Ice, but I found Kill Me to be rather far fetched.

I think we'll find out more about what's going on with Alan and Lauren in this newest book, The Last Lie - it'll be released next month :-)

:-) good to hear. I just like Dry Ice better maybe because it was set more in Boulder - in which case I should love The Last Lie :-)
