Heidi I know this is a book group, but I was thinking this weekend that a lot of my all time favorite TV shows have been YA related. My top all time favorites are:
Everwood, Veronica Mars, Gilmore Girls, and of course Buffy. I am currently enjoying Greek, Life Unexpected, Supernatural (is that YA?), and the Vampire Diaries. I gave up on Smallville after Lex left, but I watched that for years too. Anyway - anyone else as fan of YA shows?

message 2: by S.S. (new)

S.S. (ssrice) | 75 comments Absolutely. I watch with my teenage daughter:

Vampire Diaries
Gilmore Girls (rruns)
Life Unexpected
Being Human (BBC)
Torchwood (rruns)

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh, I loved Buffy. Have the first two seasons on DVD and need to get the rest.

We watch Vampire Diaries, Secret Life of the American Teenager and Kyle XY.

message 4: by Heidi (new)

Heidi S.S. - I love, love, love Being Human! Can't wait for Season 2. I also loved the Torchwood Children of Earth movie - I'm not much into the actual series though.

message 5: by Bill (new)

Bill (reedye) | 42 comments S.S. are you in the US?
Had a little discussion about Being Human somewhere else or perhaps it was another group. Season two has just finished in the UK.

message 6: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Orlich Ahern (kittymeowxcore) | 56 comments I'm a big fan of Buffy and Angel. I looove Veronica Mars, too. And Make it or Break it.

message 7: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments Ha love it. I just had a weekend marathon with my bff watching season 1 of Dawson's Creek. I forgot how dramatic it was. I mean the first season alone has enough drama to compete with any daytime soap.

message 8: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) I loved Buffy & Angel! Have all the seasons on DVD and have my Buffy & Angel collectibles....action figures and stuff!! My sister & my brothers used to give me that stuff for my birthday when the shows were on! I am absolutely addicted to Vampire Diaries! I'm so glad it's finally back again this week after being off for a month again! I'd swap blood with Ian Somerhalder any day! Also watch Supernatural and Smallville. My husband is a big Smallville fan. The last couple of years of it have been kind of weird, but I still watch. You can't go wrong looking at Tom Welling for an hour! Oh, and I love Being Human, too. Looking forward to season 2 hopefully hitting BBC America this summer.

message 9: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Bill are you in the UK? BBC needs to fix their iplayer so you can watch their shows online here in the US - I can listen to their radio programs, but can not watch their shows. I know Being Human just finished in the UK (I am a fan on FB)- I am waiting for the announcement about when it will are on BBC - I am guessing summer, as that is when it aired last year.

message 10: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Jamie - I also liked Dawson's Creek - I loved Joey and Pacey together. Amanda - I am so glad to find another Veronica Mars fan - that first season was one of the best I have ever seen of any show period. I own all the V. Mars DVD's.

message 11: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Melodie - Ian is delicious and the best actor on that show. Buffy is the best! Who would have thought I would develop such a crush on Spike of all people (vampires)!

message 12: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) For purely research purposes only - I have been known to watch an episode or two (the entire season) of Sonny with a Chance (and added to Netflix instant streaming). Strictly research though.

I've got to check out some of these shows that have been mentioned! Being Human sounds interesting.

message 13: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Peep there is no shame in admitting you are a pop culture geek. I totally am. Being Human is excellent. I also highly recommend Veronica Mars. Has anyone watched Everwood???? It is the "little show that could". I love me some Ephram.

message 14: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Peep - I have never heard of Sonny and Chance. I will have to check it on Netflix. (research purposes my a**! :)

message 15: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Bluemoon. I know this is not popular opinion, but I actually always thought Christopher should be with Laurali on Gilmore Girls. Also, most of my favorite YA shows are no longer on television. I just own them on DVD.

message 16: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I know! WTH - I liked Logan. That was just stupid.

message 17: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Heidi it's a kids show and it's really dumb, but Demi Lovato is really funny in it. And I can't stop watching them. In fact, the kid that plays Chad in it is who some people are saying should play Peeta. It's like junior fiction to our young adult.

Have you seen Worst Week (also streaming) it's hilarious!

message 18: by Bill (new)

Bill (reedye) | 42 comments Heidi wrote: "Bill are you in the UK? BBC needs to fix their iplayer so you can watch their shows online here in the US - I can listen to their radio programs, but can not watch their shows. I know Being Huma..."

Yes Heidi. And I meant to say...S.S and Heidi are you both in the US?

I'm amazed at how many Americans are watching Being Human! I saw they confirmed series 3 and the writers for the US remake. You'll have to let me know how the US show measures up.

message 19: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) Bill wrote: "Heidi wrote: "Bill are you in the UK? BBC needs to fix their iplayer so you can watch their shows online here in the US - I can listen to their radio programs, but can not watch their shows. I k..."

I had read somewhere else that there was going to be a US remake of Being Human. Why do we always feel the need to redo something that is already perfect just as it is??? How can they get any better than the guy who plays Mitchell on the BBC version???

message 20: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Ugh! We (US) are going to screw up that show, just like every other UK remake (except The Office, which I love). I cannot picture any other actor playing Mitchell either - or the other two leads - they are perfect!

message 21: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Bill - did you watch season 2 then? No spoliers, but was it as good as season 1???

message 22: by Bill (new)

Bill (reedye) | 42 comments For the US version the husband-and-wife duo of Jeremy Carver ("Supernatural") and Anna Fricke ("Privileged") are the writers but haven't seen any cast members named yet.

This was the conversation that was going on elsewhere about it...Basically all the Americans saying why bother, we like the UK version.

Funnily enough. No, didn't watch it. Tried but couldn't get into series one. Watched the pilot and absolutely loved it, couldn't wait for the series but they changed the whole cast apart from George and it threw me big time.

message 23: by S.S. (new)

S.S. (ssrice) | 75 comments We get BBC America here (US) on cable. Not updated, but better than nothing. Love DR. Who. also.

message 24: by Lana (new)

Lana (lanajeany) | 17 comments Wow, I'm so surprised to see how many WB/CW fans there are on in this group! That's awesome. I worked at The WB and at The CW for many years. I love those shows. I'm a huge fan of Vampire Diaries. I read those books when I was in middle school and I was obsessed with them. I'm so happy with the way the show turned out.

message 25: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Lana - I am a sucker for teen angst! I am really liking Life Unexpected on the CW right now. I am afraid, like Everwood, it will get lost in the "shower" dramas like Gossip Girl, which I do not watch.

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

Almost forgot to mention, 16 and Pregnant and Real World. Both on MTV.

While I was watching Secret Life last night, I couldn't help but think that the actress who plays Ashley might make a good Katniss. Here she is: India Eisley.

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments Yea! It's so great to see others who watch BBC America. I love Dr. Who and Robin Hood but I'm pretty sure I'm finished with RH because all the characters I love died off after Series 3. I'll have to check out Being Human.

Also, have you seen the previews for an American version of the movie "Death at a Funeral". The British version was fantastic! I'm just not sure it will work, even if Chris Rock is in it. I must admit, I did love the American remake of Fever Pitch and yes, The Office.

message 28: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Peep - I missed your thing about Worst Week. I have not watched that either. I will watch an episode of both of your shows this weekend. I feel like a BBC fanatic here, but have you watched "The IT Crowd" on Netflix? It is a British comedy that is very strange, but funny. The first season is a little weird compared to the US sense of humor, but I liked it once I got used to it. Netflix also has "Keeping Up Appearances", which I used to watch on PBS in college. And, last but not least, my husband and I also watched the entire 7 seasons of "All Creatures Great and Small" on Netflix. Another BBC show, which I love. I even read the book :)

message 29: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Shannen - I have never watched Secret Life, but that actress looks similar to Katniss's description. Do you watch Greek on ABC Family? I really like that show. I stopped watching MTV when they got rid of the music, so have not watched either of the shows you mentioned.

message 30: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Heidi girl you have got to get a Roku player! I am warning you that Sonny with a Chance is really dumb, but I can't stop watching it! I will check out the shows you mentioned because I have seen them on Netflix but never watched them. I have seen the first few episodes of All Creatures and it's really funny! You HAVE to watch Worst Week though. That's an order.

message 31: by Heidi (new)

Heidi "You HAVE to watch Worst Week though. That's an order. "

Yes ma'am!!! p.s. - do you watch The Office (US version) or 30 Rock??? Those are both on Netflix too. I will work on the Roku Player!!!! I wish they were cheaper - then I would get one for sure.

message 32: by Melodie (new)

I have to admit to not being much on British comedy. Most of it just escapes me, except for Monty Python. My mom just loves Keeping Up Appearances. I bought them all for her on DVD for Mother's Day, her birthday and Christmas 2 years ago.

message 33: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Melodie - I have watched a TON of British comedies on PBS and Netflix, but most of them escape me too! The ones I listed are the only ones I like.

message 34: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I forgot all about Felicity. I used to love that show (yes Lana another WB show :)

message 35: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments I loved Felicity - even when in the last season it got all sci-fi. Oh Ben - I would follow you to NY too.

message 36: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Yes. Ben (sigh). But you are right, that ending sucked! Plus I still hated when she cut off her hair - it is so beautiful!

message 37: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Since I go off topic all the time - here goes - anyone currently watch any of the following non YA shows:

Chuck, Burn Notice, Ugly Betty (sad face), The Good Wife, Parenthood, Psych, The Closer, Southland???

message 38: by S.S. (last edited Mar 23, 2010 01:24PM) (new)

S.S. (ssrice) | 75 comments PSYCH!!!

message 39: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Psych is excellent - I love the pop culture references! I forgot about Bones too. Anyone watch that?

I LOVE Chuck!!! I was so happy when it finally came back. My husband likes it, too. He also watches Burn Notice and likes it but I've never watched it.

message 41: by [deleted user] (new)

I love The Good Wife and The Closer! I have Parenthood recorded on my DVR but haven't watched any of the episodes. We watched the first season of Southland and have all the second season episode recorded but haven't watched them yet.

We also love The Middle, Modern Family and Cougartown. The Middle is my favorite comedy by far!

message 42: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) Heidi wrote: "Psych is excellent - I love the pop culture references! I forgot about Bones too. Anyone watch that?"

Bones is one of my favorites! I started watching because I wanted to see if David Boreanaz could be anything to me but Angel. And now I almost never think of him as Angel! My mom recently started watching old Bones episodes on TNT or one of those channels and now she thinks Boreanaz is about the cutest thing on TV! She's 75! I also love House, Two & A Half Men, Castle, Diners Drive Ins & Dives and Ghost Whisperer. I still watch the original CSI, but it has really suffered since Billy Petersen left. We also watch, on cable, Leverage, Rescue Me (I love Denis Leary!), Sons of Anarchy, Weeds and, of course, True Blood!! We started watching a new one last week on FX called Justified with Timothy Olyphant. My husband was a big fan of Deadwood and just had to watch this one.

message 43: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh, I watch True Blood too! Alex Skarsgaard, mmmmm...

I love Denis Leary too (he is the best smart aleck) but when the show first began, it was on at 7:00 p.m. our time and we couldn't watch it around our kids. We watched the first couple episodes and thought "Whoa! Can't be watching this with the kids around."

message 44: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Melodie- Chuck is most excellent! Did you watch last night? What a great episode. You should watch Burn Notice!

message 45: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Melodie. I (we) loved Deadwood and also watched Justified last week for the premiere. Have you watched any other HBO shows - Soprano's, Rome, Carnival?? I know you've watched True Blood! I used to love HBO shows - but not so much anymore. I'll still watch Curb or Entourage, but they are not as good now. Isn't Bones good? Although I am still mad they made Zack the killer and I wish Jack and Angela were still together. That whole Angela as lesbian thing was stupid.

message 46: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Shannen - I think you'll like Parenthood. I like Peter Krause and Lauren Graham and I really like the little boy on there - he is a cutie. I also watch Modern Family and like it. I have watched Cougartown a few times and also liked it, but am trying to limit my new shows, so have not watched The Middle. You need to watch the second season of Southland NOW - it is the best show on tv (in my humble opinion). That boy (guy)from the OC can really act!

message 47: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Shannen wrote: "Oh, I watch True Blood too! Alex Skarsgaard, mmmmm...

I've watched True Blood too - but not all the episodes. I cancelled my HBO after the Wire was done - the other new shows suck :( I watched the first few seasons of Rescue Me, but stopped because it got a little too over the top (just like Nip Tuck).

message 48: by [deleted user] (new)

We watched the first season of Southland based solely on our curosity of whether or not the guy from the OC could act. And he can!

Anyone with pre-teens or teenagers will LOVE The Middle. The mom is the narrator and it is about the every day things moms and wives go through. I think it is even better than Modern Family in a lot of ways.

message 49: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Ugh! Shannen - I am trying to limit my tv shows, now you say it is better than Modern Family. What to do? What to do?

message 50: by [deleted user] (new)

WATCH IT! It is on right before Modern Family. It's only half an hour of your entire week. (Did that help justify it?)
