I agree that it is about time for categories and would be willing to help out also.
Categories are a good idea and if the moderator has to do it I would suggest that Barb (our moderator) also delete some of the really old threads. Some examples are giveaways from '09 or conferences from past years such as Mayhem in the Midlands Conference or Malice Domestic Conference 2008. There are several topics that only have one or two postings and I think those could go also. There are several duplicate threads too, like what is your next cozy. I think that the most active one should stay and others could be deleted.

Yes, the moderator has to be the one to do it but as we only have one moderator, maybe she could use some help. That's why I offered in case she's busy. As a stay-at-home mom, I have time to help.
As for really old discussion threads, they could be closed and/or archived into a seperate category. If closed, they can still be read, just not added to.

I know she works fulltime so she might not have the time. I suggested a little challenge for this group. An A-Z challenge and she said she worked fulltime and I could host if I wanted. But I've been busy as well and was sure what anyone would think about that kind of challenge.

One of my other groups uses Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter with the year so we still have access but they are still easy to find.
The advantage to categories is that the most 5 or 6 active posts for each category show up. The categories can also have some order to them.
I agree Vicki. I joined recently and was trying to find threads that interested me and with 85 all in the general folder, it was alot to wade through. But there is still some good info in the older threads. I just thought some organization to categories would make it easier to find.
I'm all for categories! I was actually trying to create one for the Monthly Theme threads but couldn't figure out how to do so. Sounds like the moderator has that task. I'd be happy to help if someone could clue me in as to how. :)
The moderator has to do it suzanne unless she appoints another moderator to help out. I just thought the group was getting big enough that it would make things easier to find.
If someone knows the moderator - perhaps they can send her a message to see if she would allow a co-moderator?? I don't know her.
I sorted the treads into folders now. So hopefully everything is easier to find. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

Thank you! And, if any moderators or anyone needs help - have I mentioned I'm retiring on 30 June? (LOL) I'll be happy to volunteer some of my time to assist in whatever way I can. (I'm really good with Excel) : )
okay, I did a little reorganizing again and created a few folder to try to make things easier to find again.
Can I suggest a category or a thread where we can keep track of all our challenges? Example "Valorie's Challenge List" and I would put all the challenges that I'm doing for this group on my list. It might make it easier to keep track. Thanks!

I made an excel sheet for myself listing the challenges that I'm involved in which includes beginning/ending dates, possible books to read for each challenge as I locate one, book location, author, and a completion date for each book I've finished.
It's much easier to know what I need to read first now!!

- Intro's and welcome
- what you're currently reading,finished reading, etc.
- monthly theme
- seperate category for discussions on individual series
- archive old discussions
There are 85 discussions in the main default general category and it's not easy to sort through them all. (I'd be glad to help if you need any.)
