Andrez (andrez-ssi) is he good?i want to read something by him, what do you recommend?

message 3: by **Carla** (new)

**Carla** He is a good writer. He is my moms favourite author. I wouldn't know what to recommend though. I haven't read much of his but I will ask my mom what she would suggest for a fist read by him.

Karli (goodreadscomkarli_is_booked) I've read nearly all his books. Depending on what you're in the mood for, here are the ones I'd recommend:

Bag of Bones The tagline for this one is "A haunted love story" - An author's wife dies suddenly and he gets writers block. He goes to their summer cottage and discovers a dark history of the area.

The Eyes of the Dragon This is closer to YA lit - it's set in a semi-medieval time, following a weak king, an evil advisor and the two price sons. One of my first King reads.

The Stand The ultimate in good vs. evil. 99% of the world is wiped out by a "superflu" and the US is divided into two cities of the good people vs the evil. It's HUGE - lots of characters, story lines etc. And it's REALLY scary if you happen to develop a cold while reading it!

Duma Key A man is terribly injured in a work accident, ends up with a brain injury that changes his personality to the point his marriage crumbles. He rents a house on Duma Key in Florida and begins painting - with horrifying results.

Hope this helps. I'm a huge King fan, so if there are any other books you've seen, I probably have an opinion!

Julie S. The Stand sounds great. I think I'll have to read that one.

Karli (goodreadscomkarli_is_booked) My correction - PRINCE sons - for Eyes of the Dragon. I tend not to wear my glasses around the house. This is getting more and more difficult somehow. :)

I love King. I'd happily answer any other questions of books.

Catamorandi (wwwgoodreadscomprofilerandi) | 130 comments I used to like him a lot. Then, I read a Dean Koontz book that totally creeped me out, and I haven't read another horror book since then. Stephen King is excellent at what he does, though.

Karli (goodreadscomkarli_is_booked) Other books with creatures...Dreamcatcher 'Salem's Lot, The Regulators.

(Dreamcatcher is NOT one I recommend for a first taste though...)

message 15: by Angela (new)

Angela B I read The Dead Zone and I really liked it but it was my first Stephen King book and it was so different from a lot of what I read

message 16: by Yassemin (new)

Yassemin (yas666) The Stand was awesome, not so awesome if your put off by big books though.

Dark Tower Series although not horror and more fantasy are also brilliant!

Duma Key is also awesome!

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

I picked up The Stand not too long ago and recently acquired Duma Key.

Sounds great. I'll let you know. I'm hoping to get to them sometime this summer. Hopefully time doesn't fly too quickly!
