Wedding Theme Challenge Posted 10/16/10 to thread. Duration: October 15, 2010 to October 15, 20112/9
1. Something old:
2. Something new:
3. Something borrowed: Borrowed book from library -
Discussion: I read this one a while ago and forgot to post my opinions so bear with me as I'm doing it from a limited memory. I don't know if the characters were realistic for others, but they came alive for me. This book is an anthology of 3 stories by popular romance writers. They take a secondary character from some of their most known novels and give them their own story. The title of the book alone is intriguing and works as a solid basis for the stories. Every girl want's a hero, don't they? I found all three "heros" and their stories were fun to read, whether they were realistic or not.
4. Something blue: Midnight Blue cover -
Discussion: Having read the series out of order, I was glad to finally get to read this first Hathaway story. I love the characters, including the secondary ones, many of whom are from previous Kleypas novels. The series overlap and that is why I found this one intriguing. It was nice to fill in some of the gaps, and I would suggest that these two series be read in order; it would have probably made them even more enjoyable. For an historical romance set in England, I found the characters realistic based on my past readings of the genre. I do not know much about gypsys, but the two characters and the described culture definitely provide some interest to the overall plot and even more so in subsequent novels in the series. The Hathaways are a very entertaining family, and I have enjoyed all of their books. As far as relating to the story or characters, I think almost everyone wants to be accepted for who they are, and there is some exploration of that in this book, as well as the romance and a little intrigue.
5. Wedding scene:
This one actually contained two weddings, one with the character of Sydney and another at the end between Lindsay and Taylor. Although I really enjoyed the book, I couldn't relate to the characters in the story simply because I can't imagine anyone in my life ever having been that cruel or just plain evil. The subject of rape is explored and I don't think anyone but rape victims really know what that is like or how they feel. Having said that, I did think the author, while using the subject to further the story, explored the damage one person can do the affect another's life and the fight it takes to recover. While unrealistic in some aspects, it touched me and that's a mark of a good story.
6. Character planning a wedding:
7. Married characters as hero/heroine:
8. Engaged characters as hero/heroine:
9. Divorced characters as hero/heroine:
*BONUS (Optional)
Discussion: Did the story & characters sound realistic? Could you relate to any of the characters or certain things that happened in the story? If so, can you share an example?Beyond EdenCatherine Coulter
