message 1: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) YAY!!! Thomas (my boyfriend, for those of you not aware) just emailed me at work telling me that I'd gotten a "suspicious package" in the mail from Scotland, and that it seemed to have some sort of flammable powder in it, and should he throw it away or call the authorities?

Funny, funny man! It's been 6 weeks that I've been waiting for Gunpowder!! I am SOOOOOOO excited that it is finally here! :D

message 2: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 92 comments Yay! I keep meaning to order it, maybe for a birthday present for myself in the next couple weeks.

message 3: by Bondama (new)

Bondama (kerensa) | 18 comments Becky, you lucky, lucky (obscenity deleted)!!

It sounds as if your boyfriend has a sense of humour very similar to your own!

message 4: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Ooh yes... I know. I'm all but drooling over it!! And it's a first edition in pristine condition.

I'll just go now and put on my bib so as to avoid drool-damage. *wipes chin*

message 5: by Bondama (new)

Bondama (kerensa) | 18 comments Ab-so-lute-ly NOTHING like a brand new book by a writer you love (and time to read it!!)

message 6: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) | 101 comments It's a great little book, Becky! Joe Hill told me that there would be 2 more Gunpowder stories coming. Yay! I can't wait! Enjoy! :)

message 7: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Hopefully they won't be as expensive!

message 8: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) | 101 comments I know...tell me about it! lol

message 9: by Felina (new)

Felina Why is this book so difficult to find? It seems to be out of print or something. Costs $125 on Amazon and I can't even find it on bn.com.

message 10: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I think that it was limited release... :(
I snagged a copy on Ebay (there were a few) and paid around $40. Someone else just mentioned that they got a copy from Abes Books for $45.

message 11: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) | 101 comments Yeah, mine was also $40 through an Amazon seller. He's lucky I love his books!

message 12: by Felina (new)

Felina Is there any plans for a wide release? I hate when authors do that. I can't justify $40 for a book. I'll just burglerize Becky or Kathy.

message 13: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) *hides*

message 14: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) | 101 comments Eeeeeek!

message 15: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 92 comments *goes to buy a safe before Felina realizes i'm the "someone else" Becky mentioned who just bought this book*

message 16: by Felina (new)

Felina I actually have Becky's address. MUAHAHAHAHAHA. Although it would be cheaper to just pay the $40 instead of buy a plane ticket to whatever east state Becky lives in. I think Kathy's in California which is closer to Utah....

*Felina goes to google Rachels location*

message 17: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) No, Kathy is in NY, Kandice is in CA.

message 18: by Kandice, Felina is the best (new)

Kandice | 114 comments Oh sure, thanks, Becky! Send the crazy girl my way;)

*tickles Felina*

message 19: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Well, you're only in danger if you own Gunpowder... and I don't think you do, yet... do you?

message 20: by Kandice, Felina is the best (new)

Kandice | 114 comments I sure wouldn't cop to it now.

I really don't, but wish I did

message 21: by Chris , The Devil Inside (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 130 comments *wonders if I should claim to own Gunpowder so Felina will stalk me and then I can kidnap her*

message 22: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) O_O

message 23: by Kandice, Felina is the best (new)

Kandice | 114 comments Chris, you are the definition of incorrigible!!! ♥

message 24: by Chris , The Devil Inside (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 130 comments You think? Cool....

message 25: by Felina (new)

Felina I've always wanted to go the New York *sigh* I'll just go to california and visit Kandice. She's nice and offers tickles instead of kidnappings. Thats right Chris...I can read your thoughts.

message 26: by Kandice, Felina is the best (new)

Kandice | 114 comments {{{{{Felina}}}}}

:D

message 27: by Chris , The Devil Inside (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 130 comments Oh, never fear. I wouldn't deprive any tickles.....

message 28: by Felina (new)

Felina Tee he he!

message 29: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 92 comments I got my copy of Gunpowder today! I'm glad I waited a lil longer to have it signed by the cover artist because the cover is really cool! Now if I could just find some time today to sit and read more than the first 4 pages.

message 30: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Lucky girl, you! I should read it soon. It's short so I should be able to squeeze it in fairly easily. I'll probably read it after Black House. :)

message 31: by Kandice, Felina is the best (new)

Kandice | 114 comments You are BOTH lucky girls. I want a play by play as soon as you read it. I don't even care about spoilers.:)

message 32: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I DO!

message 33: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I'll work something else out with you...

message 34: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) | 101 comments Enjoy! It's a great little story. Ok, maybe not so little. :)

message 35: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) It's little! Less than 100 pages is little! LOL

message 36: by Kathy (last edited May 12, 2010 08:30AM) (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) | 101 comments Yeah, but there's alot of story packed into that little book. I can't wait to see what you think. Looking forward to your review.

message 37: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Ahh, I gotcha... I'll be sneaking it in before The San Dragon, I think. :P

message 38: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 92 comments I'm tempted to read it now but I really need to finish Let The Right One In first.

message 39: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Are you liking LTROI? I really liked it... I loved the feeling of it. :)

message 40: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) | 101 comments I love that book!!!

message 41: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 92 comments Becky wrote: "Are you liking LTROI? I really liked it... I loved the feeling of it. :)"

I'm liking it but i'm not loving it. I'm a little over halfway through but I'm feeling the same about the book as I did about the movie. It's interesting but vampires aren't really my thing and vampire books usually go slow for me. I think because thematically they tend to be more mellow and moody which is kinda cool when done right. Did u guys know there's gonna be an American remake of the LTROI movie called Let Me In (the title the book was originally published under in America)?

message 42: by Becky (last edited May 12, 2010 09:43AM) (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Hmm... I'm not sure how I'd feel about that. I really liked the original movie.

Most of what I liked so much about LTROI was the atmosphere... I read it while listening to this really eerie and melodic Icelandic cello music (which is out of character for me because I usually can't listen to ANYTHING while I read)... There were some creepy parts - toward the end, if I remember correctly, but most of what I loved was just the feeling of it. Dark and broody and cold and blue/grey. It's funny how I think of books in terms of colors - the cover of the one I read fit it perfectly to how I felt about it.

Let the Right One in by John Lindqvist

Rachel | 92 comments The cover does fit perfectly with the tone of the book. I usually hate movie covers too. I'm wary of an American remake because of some things I bet they soften for easily offended American audiences.

message 44: by Kandice, Felina is the best (new)

Kandice | 114 comments I've never seen the movie or read the book, but I've heard a lot about both and they sound good.

Yep. And the things that they enhance or change for drama loving American audiences.

They're both good Kandice. I think I'm also frustrated currently by a lack of concentration. Got a lot going on right now, transferring jobs in a week and a half, working current job, usual life stuff. I wanna finish LTROI by June so I can also read Blindness for the B&B Challenge but it may not happen.

message 47: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) | 101 comments I'm not so keep on an American remake of LTROI. The original movie was just so perfect! Even The Ring and The Grudge....their original Japanese movies were so much better!

message 48: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I've never seen the original move of The Ring, and I've never seen either version of The Grudge. *shrug*

I'd much rather read my horror than watch it. :)

message 49: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 92 comments The American version of The Ring scared me to much to see the japanese version or either version of The Grudge, and the original LTROI doesn't need to be remade, it's great the way it is.

message 50: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Oh gosh yes, especially when my DVD player froze RIGHT AFTER the video was watched for the first time (with Samara still climbing out of the well) and then my phone ringing immediately after (at 2am) and there being nothing but static on the line.

I was traumatized! LOL

(It was just my boyfriend calling from a bad cell - but still!)
