The Complete Idiots Guide to the Ultimate Reading List discussion

Okay, I was hooked on the Sue Grafton novels before I discovered Janet Evanovich. They are very similar in nature. A is for Alibi is the first book in an alphabet series about Kinsey Millhone, a private detective and former cop. She is always running into trouble and I particularly love her little, black dress that doesn't wrinkle. She can shove it in her purse, find it scrunched up under the seat of her car, even wear it when she's taking down some bad guy and it never looks worse for wear. She was a bit of a bad girl who is still finding her way and secretly in love with her 80 year old landlord who writes crossword puzzles for the local paper and bakes mouthwatering pastries, probably the main reason Kinsey is attracted to him. These books are not as fast-paced or as humorous as Janet Evanovich's but they are great reading as well.

I was a little disappointed the first time I read A is for Alibi. I liked Kinsey but I was not drawn to her as a character. I reread the book and liked it more and have decided to read more in the series.

If you started reading them after reading Stephanie, then they are more difficult to get into. Once I started the number series, it was hard to get back into Kinsey's character.

I agree about Henry and it doesn't hurt that he's a mean pastry chef.

I like these books. I like the mysteries in them more than the Plum books. I did try to read this once before and didn't make it through and then picked it up a few years later and loved it. I think maybe you have to be in the mood for these.

I enjoyed all of the Millhone stories. I just wish I had waited to start them until they were all out - it kills me to wait so long between books! I also enjoy Henry and his brother, as I enjoy other peripheral characters. I wait impatiently for each book and actually splurge on the hardcover editions of these!

Love Sue Grafton. I enjoy this character.

I read T is for Trespass the beginning of the year. This was the first Sue Grafton book I read. I wasn't a big fan. Everything was just too "simple" for me, from characters to plot to ending. I decided to read another one and read A is for Alibi and unfortunately thought the same thing. I did think these were good for a quick read.

I love all of Sue Grafton's books.... I find that even though things have changed through time, ie: cell phones and such, that you are still in the thick of things when her! I am on "J" right now. I got my mom hoocked and she is current. She can't put them down!
