that too. I like it when you feel for the character. there was a quote, i forget who by, but it went something like "You know you've read a good book when you finish it and feel as if you've lost a friend." and also "If you haven't read a book and liked it you haven't lived."

Finally, it should in some way change you (hopefully for the better)
That can be as simple as allowing you to see things from a different perspective or possibly introducing you to an idea that will make your life more fulfilling in the future.
What makes a book good is where/why/when you're reading it.
Depending on your definition of horrible. Some books are just stupid, but others could be good in 1 circumstance & totally blow in another. for example, i hated hatchet bcuz i was forced 2 read it by my 5th grade teacher, even tho its a good book.
hmm. 4 me, the view from saturday I couldn't even finish it was so boring, but some (very few) of the books we had to read for school are good
oh, i liked the view from saturday a bit, but it was rather dry.
