Burned 531 pagesI read Burned by Ellen Hopkins and I give it two thumbs up. Burned was one of the most captivating books that I have ever read. While reading the book, in the beginning, I was appalled by how Pattyn’s family life was, towards the middle of the book her situation got better, leaving me relieved, and then the end of the book the story totally turned leaving Pattyn in an even worse situation. As a reader I take pleasure in a happy ending but since the end was so unexpected I really enjoyed it. Throughout the last fifty pages my jaw was literally dropped, inciting tons of emotions within me. I am sure many other readers will enjoy it like I did.
Besides the struggle in Pattyn’s life, the story also demonstrates a great deal of unconditional love, which she finds while living with her aunt. At a point, the book shows Pattyn drifting from everything she knows. When Pattyn is able to experience new things, as a reader, you too are able feel her freedom and love right along with her. The epitome of Pattyn’s emotions is evident when she says things such as, “I hope God accepts how I feel about Ethan. Because I love him more than anything, even life itself,” enabling me to realize how much she allowed herself to really love while at her aunts (pg 365.) Hopkins does a really great job pulling the readers into the situation.
Although I did find the story really entertaining, I did take a lot from it. I learned a lot about the emotional torment a person goes through when they are brought up in abuse. Whenever I would watch a movie where a person had to fight off someone I would always criticize and say things like, “if I were her, I would do this.” However, with the description in the book, I now grasp that for a young girl it is almost impossible to contend against a grown man. I would recommend this book for my classmates because the book held my attention the entire time.
Fallen Pages 1-452
Fallen by Lauren Kate is a book based on love vs. death. What captured my attention about this book was the fact that the book was about six fallen angels and one human being who destiny is to die. Two characters in the story who are angels and their names are Daniel and Cam have been dammed with falling in love with the same girl. This girl name is Luce and she is re-born every seventeen years because the six angles where send to earth to get punished every time Luce was re-born. Some characters in the story are good and some are bad. Such as Cam, Molly, and Ronald these characters primarily are focused on there security in the world and try to JEOPERDIZE Luce life. So whenever Luce appears into the world they never let their guard down and try to find ways to get rid of her. On the other hand the situation is different with the good angels who names are Daniel, Arriane, and Gabbe these characters are always trying to protect Luce because they believe that she is a human being who deserves to live her life. Daniel is one of the characters who are deeply in love with her and as a protector he believes staying away from her is the solution. But what Daniel is about to find out is that as much as he tries to stay away he just can’t.
This book was one of the best books I have ever read. I have to rate this book a 5 out of 5. The reason for this is that the book contained so much romance between two people that it just makes a reader wish they had that kind of relationship with a person. When a romance novel contains a romance that just sounds so perfect it attracts reader and makes them wish they were the characters. This book gives readers hope in life for love. It deeply explains what love could be and how wonderful it is. I really recommend this book to all people who are deeply into love stories with obstacles. This book would keep you wondering and guessing. You will ever get huge surprise that make you say why?
It contained so much passion between two characters. What I liked the most out of this book has to be the fact that it always kept me wondering and thinking. It was like a crime investigation and in order to be satisfied with what I read I just had to know who the bad guy was and why the bad guy was affecting other characters happiness. The book contained a good amount of pages to read. This book did what I never thought any book would ever do which was keeping me reading. I believe that the obstacles it contained such as two guys wanting to be with Luce and one person trying to hurt her so she could finally go away for good was got me to even start reading this book. The author contains such and interesting way of connecting characters so well together that towards the end I was really shocked who the bad guy was. The negative affects on this book have to be that they don’t really explain why the angels were dammed and send to earth as a punishment. What did they ever do that was so bad? Daniel seemed to be a very well trusted and sweet character with a great heart and as well with Arriane and Gabbe. I really didn’t like that my questions were not answer. I believe it’s LUDICROUS to write a book and not answer all a readers’ question. I strongly hope that I will find my answers and hopefully very CLARIFIED in the next following book.
“Remember why you are here.”(Page 312) I love this quote in the story because Luce had been accused of a killer so that is why her parents send her to military school. The strange thing about this quote is that Luce didn’t do anything wrong to be in that military school and yet she is hearing that where ever she goes, Luce knows she didn’t hurt that guy during that fire and she really doesn’t even remember what happened. All she wants is to have peace in her life again, but she just keeps finding trouble.
This book teaches people that if there is someone out their in this world that you love you must shared and spread your love with that person. The reason for this is because no one ever knows when that person will be gone. So it’s better to be around the ones you love then away form them.

Fallen seems like a book I would really be interested in. Like you I enjoy a good romance novel and sometimes wish I could have the same experiences as the characters. The fact that the Romance in fallen is between angels and a "re-born" really creates a unique story line which may be appealing to a lot of readers. Also, I too dislike when authors do not explain details because my mind always get stuck on what I don't know.
