I still put on my Metallica and jam out. It's some of the best music to clean house by. Keeps your heart pumping, and your body moving.
Here's my short list of some serious metal favorites:Metallica (of course)
Pantera (see my profile pic)
Fear Factory
Machinehead (first two albums)
Korn
Iron Maiden
Judas Priest
Black Sabbath & Ozzy
Anthrax
Type O Negative
Moonspell
Tiamat
Samael
Coal Chamber
White Zombie/Rob Zombie
and my favorite newish metal band:
Five Finger Death Punch
Some of my metal bands:Samael
Korn
Rob/White Zombie
Testament
Machinehead
Grip Inc.
Slayer
Mudvayne
Soulfly
Ozzy Osbourne
Fear Factory
Spineshank
Metallica
Pantera
Damageplan
Demon Hunter
Rammstein
Hell Yeah
Although I wouldn't classify Moonspell, Tiamat and Type O Negative as metal as most of their material seems to be more goth, at least to me anyway. But I do like and have most of those artists albums.
I like pretty much everything on your guys lists. I'd like to add some of the stuff I've been listening to lately:
Cradle of Filth
High on Fire
Behemoth
Dimmu Borgir
Job for a Cowboy
Killswitch Engage
Neurosis
Isis
The Black Dahlia Murder
Chimaira
DevilDriver
Mudvayne
Hellyeah
Lamb of God
Mastodon
Old Man's Child
The Red Chord
Whitechapel
Winds of Plague
I might have doubled a band that you guys put on your list. There's so many bands that I love, it's hard to keep track sometimes.

I can't play with the big boys. I only like a few old school Metal heads.
Metallica --- Iron Maiden
Depp Purple --- Judas Priest
Black Sabbath -with- Ozzy

Those are great bands, too! Every one of them, except for maybe Deep Purple, played a big role in my teen years. Still do, in a way.
In my mind, yes. But i'd really want to go back and change just a few things around. I know the old saying that you can never go back, and don't have regrets because they cause nothing but sleepless nights. But I have them anyway. To change two things, wow, what wouldn't I give! Just about damn near anything!
Hey,Metallica, Iron Maiden, they'll always be great, my metal list will include Korn, Disturbed, Godsmack, maybe some Lamb of God...but damn there are so many!
ULTIMATE METAL LIST!!!!!!Metallica (they invented it practically)
Iron Maiden
Judas Priest
Disturbed
Ozzy/Black Sabbath
Dream Theater
Motorhead
Girlschool
Lamb of God
Dio/Heaven and Hell/Rainbow
Twisted Sista (I know, I just like spelling it that way)
Dream Theater
Falconer
Guns n Roses (sorta)
Megadeth
Michal Angelo Battio
There are tons more, but I feel those are the most essential to my playlist.
Metal! \,,/Ok, heres what I like:
Quiet Riot
Ozzy
Black Sabbath
Judas Priest
Iron Maiden
Disturbed
Twisted Sister
Motley Crue
White Zombie
Metallica
Manowar
Nickelback(Yes, I kinda consider this metal)
Fozzy
Anthrax
and I'm sure there's more...
I remember listening to Manowar when I was a teenager with my friends. Funny stuff!
Makes me think of GWAR for somme reason. Not sure why, considering one band wore monster costumes, the other band half-naked wearing leapord skins and oil.

lol. Just a little different. :)
Manowar! Hell yeah. I had forgotten about them.Disturbed, Megadeth, Dio and Rainbow were ones I should have had on my list too....
So I'm assuming everyone has heard the news the Peter Steele is dead? Fallout, Carnivore & Type O Negative. Peter Steele: 1962-2010
Jerrod wrote: "So I'm assuming everyone has heard the news the Peter Steele is dead? Fallout, Carnivore & Type O Negative. Peter Steele: 1962-2010"What?! I hadn't heard. Holy crap...
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I'm so behind. My candolences (I hope I spelled that right. I rarely use it)
Type O held my hand through my teenage years and into my twenties. They were a band I would do a monthly search for, just to see if a new album was on the horizon. Now, I have to find a way to deal with the fact that I will never hear a new Type O Negative album again. Fucking huge bummer....at least we still have LEMMY and MOTORHEAD!
Yeah Jason, don't I know it. ;->
I wouldn't put Dream Theater, Guns-N-Roses, or Nickelback, down as Metal. All the rest look good.

Iron Maiden's great. They sound amazing, both live and in studio.
The problem with the label of "Metal" is that the classification is ever-changing. It seems that generation has to do with that, but it's even harder to pin down than that. When I first started listening to music, bands like Rush and Van Halen were considered "metal". As new bands emerged and pushed the heavy gauntlet, the definition seemed to change. Megadeth, Anthrax, and Metallica became the new standard. It kept getting heavier and metal sub-genres emerged.
When Type O Negative first came out, there was no doubt that they were metal (with other influences, sure). When Dream Theater came out, same thing. They then got further pigeonholed as a "progressive metal" band, whatever the hell that is. We saw Gothic metal, Black metal, Death metal, speed metal, etc. And what the hell exactly is "nu-metal"?
Then along came grunge, which "killed" metal. Except, now they say grunge is dead and metal is still out there.
So anyway.
I think that all that "sub-genre" stuff should end. There's no need to classify everything in the world in so many categories. Something will always stand out.

Good point Chris. This also made me think of the red rocker Sammy Hagar. I wouldn't think of him as metal except he had the title track to Heavy Metal. Seems to me that should categorize someone prettty quickly.
The problem I have with not breaking out the sub-genres is that I don't know what to tell people I like. If on a timeline using 1 as the beginning of 70's metal and 10 being todays metal I would say I stopped around the 4 or 5 mark. Still love the old stuff and every once in awhile I'll hear a song or two that I like but for the most part metal has left me behind.
Chris you make some good points. Heavy Metal never left our home during the grunge years, we listened to both.Way before grunge I quit watching award shows because those dumbasses gave Aerosmith the award over Metallica in the heavy metal category. Where, besides there own little minds, is Aerosmith metal, much less heavy metal? Their rock, maybe hard rock, but only rock!
I gave that movie Heavy Metal to my son-in-law- to be for christmas last year. He's all about some HM. I was surprised he'd never seen or heard of it. He liked it very much. They have a second one out now, i'm going to have to find it. That would be a cool movie to nominate for our movie of the month.

Cool cheers Lori, I'd never heard of the movie Heavy Metal, I just looked it up and found out John Candy does the voices of some characters. Woo! John Candy, I'd try anything with him in once, the man was a legend.
Zorana wrote: "I think that all that "sub-genre" stuff should end. There's no need to classify everything in the world in so many categories. While fan boys of a genre will spend hours with ridiculous arguments about which sub genre a particular band falls into, I think having sub genres actually makes it easier to discover something you will like. Personally I would consider my self a huge fan of metal, yet if we were to do away with sub genres and somebody was to show me a power metal band, or a nu-metal band or any of the awful shit that passes for metal at the moment I would find myself totally confused, "what, this is metal? but I thought I liked metal, that other band was nothing like this, so how do I go about finding the good stuff?".
Yeah, I know what ya mean Gary. It's soo hard not to get sub genred by those music people who have become sooo opssessed with sub genres and classification they don't care about the music anymore. Annoying crap.Just because I like Megadeth doesn't mean I can't like more acoustic stuff, just because I like Paramore doesn't mean I like all new music.
Geez....that kind of turned into a rant.
Hey little GCDD we are all entitled to a rant every now and then. :)
Gary I think you'll like it. It has so many songs in it, let me know when you watch it what you thought about it.

Slipknot is sort of hit or miss with me. Godsmack and Tool are awesome!
Godsmack is coming out with a new CD this month, I think.

Sorry I didn't mention them, I though I did. Whatever. i'm not that in to 'em, but my half brother went to go see him and the drummer looked straight at him and threw his sticks, but missed by two rows.
Jonathan wrote: "Hmmmm.... I have to say I'm dissapointed that Slipknot is no where to be seen......."After the first album, I've not really enjoyed much other than the occasional song here and there, disappointing live too.
For those that are fans, Soulfly and Demon Hunter both have new albums to be released this month.
