How about alternative rock? I always thought Pearl Jam, Candlebox, and Nirvana were just rockers. I never got why they were termed alternative.
I love the whole '90s scene. Grunge and alternative for the most part. Though, like Lori, I never got why they called, and still do, some music alternative. Makes no sense to me.
Very true, Eugenia. Same thing happens in the book publishing world. I forgot about that whole marketing thing when I posted that last comment. I still think the 'Alternative' genre is slightly ridiculous, though, because they put everything from hard rock to folk music in that category, so long as the artist is young and appealing in an odd sort of way. It's the one and only subgenre in any media form that makes me shake my head.
I agree, Jason. When I say I like Alternative music, I feel like I have to follow it up with a clarification. I would say I like moody/weird/depressed/electronic/folkish alternative music the best, and Brit Rock, of course.
Like the 90's "Alternative" took over the "Hair Bands" of the 80's, "Hip-Hop" seems to have taken over the 90's grunge. I miss the 80's and the 90's, don't really care that much for Hip-Hop.

Lori, i miss the 80s/90s too!i grew up on all the Def Leppard/Madonna/Van Halen/Alanis Morrissette...oh yeah..New Kids on the Block too!! :D
You can still find 80s and 90s like stuff out there. You just have to look harder, which is a pain in the rear and the wallet...lol
Although I too miss the 80s and 90s, I'm happy with the music I listen to today, most of which is underground-type stuff, if not classical or jazz or retro 80s and 90s.

We do have a much easier time finding things than we did in the 90s I can say that much for this era. MP3s make most anything more widely available.
