The Eagles
The Eagles ARE the seventies for me. So many good songs and good memories. My mom and dad are big Eagles fans and they went to see them back in their heyday and have gone twice in the past few years to see them.I used to have their double live album that has "Seven Bridges Road" on it.
The Eagles are one of the only bands to with stand the test of time. On their Hell Freezes Over cd they say they never broke up they just took a 13 year vacation. Their first album was released in 1972, their newest was in 2007. There is no other band like them. They cross the music lines in rock into country, and they are awesome!
They created a whole new sound (well, to me) called California rock. Jackson Brown and Linda Ronstadt were also singing the same type of music.I listened to "Desperado" I don't know how many times. And "One of These Nights." Man, the memories!

Do you like Brown's "The Pretender"? I love that song. It should be my theme song every day I get in my car and drive to work and then back again.

Because it was on a warm night when I first heard them, probably you did too T. Did you know they played for Linda Ronstadt when she was touring back in the day. She's the one that convinced them to go in the studio the first time they went, and as they say "The Rest Is History".
I was a big Ronstadt fan back in the day. I still love her voice. I still listen to her early, early records, back when she was still with the Stone Poneys. Yeah, she was going on tour early on and picked some of those guys to play in her band. Wasn't long before they knew they had something special. The Eagles' music to me is similar to Jimmy Buffet's in that the entire sound evokes chilling out on a warm Saturday night, drinking, BBQing and listening to music.
I actually place the Eagles up there with Scorpions and The Pixies. That is, three bands I wish never existed. :) I never got the draw or love for them. Never. Even as a kid (born in 1970) I never liked them. Maybe Tressa hit it on the head for me...Jimmy Buffet. Add him into the equation so that my "3" turns to "4". I've always stood by it that every band on the face of the earth can write at least one good song. Scorpions have a couple of decent tunes (No One Like You), The Eagles have "Already Gone", Pixies have one I heard I kind of liked. Jimmy Buffet has...uhhh...hmmmm...O.K., there is the flaw to my belief system.
Uhhhh...no. Nothing about Buffet. Zero. He might be on the top of my "that sucks" list. Jack Johnson is giving him a REAL close run for his money though.

Everything. He also fits in with Nickleback in that he has only written one song. He just changes the lyrics and titles. My wife loves him. It sucks.
I have the opposite view of Jack Johnson. I think all his songs sound different. I hate when I buy an album and all the songs sound the same. I like how Johnson plays around with the melodies and phrasing. Your wife has excellent taste. Tell her his new album should be out soon!
No, I'm not going to tell my wife about the new album. She can find out on her own. If I tell her, I have to listen to it. Remember, I am unemployed which means I am around the house a lot. Which means I have to listen to her stuff. I let her control the stereo when I am home, actually, so I have to tolerate her stuff. I'm sure Target will have a massive Jack Johnson display and ad, so she will find out on her own.
Your wife will feel the good, loving vibes coming off Jack's new album so there's no way you can hide it from her. If she were a member here I'd PM her a heads up. What is her name again?
Kristy. Yeah, she also has sisters who are all fans of Johnson's, so I will have my ears assaulted by his mellow boring sap.
Nope, I am not a fan of "Heavy Metal" actually. Not of the sort you might be thinking. No, I listen to a lot of different styles, about to listen to some Andrews Sisters. I love Michael Hedges, Luka Bloom, and many "mellow" styles. But as a rule, I like LOUD music, yes. That is what is played the majority of the time by far.
I was only alive for Long Road Out of Eden, but I love almost everything the Eagles did. My mom and dad are huge fans.
Carl, please take this arrow out of my heart! Oh the horror of it. I'm not that fond of Buffet, but the Eagles have been with me through thick and thin. They have so many great songs, and their sound is very versatile. Rock, blues, and country.
Hey, if you love them, rock on! I will never in a million years tear down somebody for what they enjoy. It's your personal taste. I only explain why I don't like something or somebody, I don't try to tell people why they shouldn't like somebody. As long as you love music, you're cool with me. :)
Well, then I think she might be giving me a hard time or something. This is the third (fourth maybe?) thread she has made that comment in. I can't tell if she is being facetious or not. LOL!
I doubt she's being facetious. Maybe she really thinks you are da man. Just accept it. *shrugs shoulders*
I'm not crazy or forgetful, how soon you all forget. Carl set up our Secret Santa on HA this past christmas. He did all the work on that project, getting names, matching people up, making sure all address got to the right people. And for that he'll always be da man to me.:) My way of a complement.
Yeah, but then we discussed a Valentine version of it, and I dropped the ball on that one. Granted, I lost my job at the time...but I still dropped it. :)
I love them, I can't think of one song I don't like. Maybe it's not technical enough for them, the people who don't like the Eagles. Because i'm having trouble getting my mind around it. But I guess I don't have to, there's lots of music out there.
Well, I like em and their success speaks for itself. And yes, it's okay for ppl not to like them but it's like pizza. Simply hard to believe that there are ppl who don't like pizza.
Well said Pamela. We all may like different toppings on our pizza, but it's still a pizza.
Funny you should use that as a metaphor, my mother-in-law dont' like pizza. We hardly get it anymore. :(
