Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I know some of the British members may wonder why we call it that, but the newer British rock bands just have this distinctive sound that I love much more than American rock. Don't beat me up for saying that. Does anyone else like Brit Rock?

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) Jo, I'll have to check them out. I'm always on the lookout for new British rock bands.

I think some of the shenanigans and the infighting has probably hurt Oasis' popularity.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I think Oasis went above what is normally tolerated. Plus they had some inner-band conflict. I could be wrong, though.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I liked a few of Oasis' earlier songs, but their sound got too rocky for me. I think I was always more of a Blur fan, anyway. There was a great rivalry between Blur and Oasis at one time.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I've liked a couple of the songs I heard by them.

Sans Jo wrote: "Do any of you like The Libertines?"

I went crazy for The Libertines when their first album came out. Which is strange because I never really liked Babyshambles.

I think "Brit Rock" defines my musical preference. You're right Danielle, the UK bands have such a different sound from Americans. Yet another reason I really need to move to Edinburgh. ^o^

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) Sometimes I think of running off and becoming a UK citizen. :)

Sans Danielle, I'm going to be applying to a few universities in Scotland next year. *_* It's both sad and wonderful that it will cost me the same amount in the UK to finish my degree as it will in CA. Oi.

message 9: by Sans (new)

Sans I haven't heard Dirty Pretty Things. Are they similar?

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) That is really crazy to think it's the same cost. I always thought that the UK was very expensive to live.

message 11: by Sans (new)

Sans It's pretty relative from what I understand. And I live in the Bay Area, so the cost of living is sky high for me already. I figure some student loans, possibly a grant or two and a part time job will keep me out of the red. ^o^

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) That's so cool. I bet you are happy!

message 13: by Sans (new)

Sans I will be if I get accepted! Life stacked against me this year so I had to postpone my plans. I originally wanted to apply for this autumn but it just didn't work out. Fingers crossed.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) Fingers crossed on your behalf.

StephanieT | 31 comments One of my ex's was from UK, he made me a great mixed CD once with Doves, Gomez, Toploader, Stereophonics, Morcheeba, David Gray, etc on it. I love that CD :D

message 16: by Sans (new)

Sans The Doves' "There Goes the Fear" is always in my top 50 song lists. ^o^ Morcheeba and David Gray need more air time too.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) Ooh, I love The Doves. Stephanie, that sounds like a good mix. Eugenia, feel free to start a thread for Brit Soul, if you like. I'll come over, because I love that too.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) Some of my fave recent Brit rock:

Coldplay
Keane
Travis
Franz Ferdinand
Doves
Elbow
The Cinematics
Editors

I'm sure I'm forgetting someone. :)

Radiohead! LOL

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I knew I was forgetting someone! Thanks, Jason.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I wouldn't mind trading off for a little bit. To be honest, I do like being an American. But I'm a big anglophile, no doubt about that.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) Yes, it would. :)

Here's a list for ya, some of the BEST ever to come out of England!

OzzyOsbourne --- Black Sabbath
The Rolling Stones --- Cream
Deep Purple --- Judas Priest
Yes --- The Who --- Foghat
Iron Maiden --- Pink Floyd
Def Leppard --- The Kinks
Genesis --- Duran Duran
Thompson Twins --- Tears For Fears
The Fixx --- Kajagoogoo
one of my new favorites --- Joss Stone
and an oldie that's not anywhere near my favorite, but might be to some people, --- Led Zeppelin
I'm an old school kind of person but I did say I was going to give Radiohead a try, and I will.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) Very eclectic list, Lori.

Thanks Miss BH! I'll take that as a complement! I think it says a lot about my taste in music.:) The only thing missing is a country artist, and I don't know any British country singers. Do you? I'm all about old school stuff.

message 26: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) Led Zeppelin! Their hanging on my door. The air plane shot.
The Clash
The Ramones
ozzy/Black Sabbath
Deep Purple. Can't emphasize that enough...
The Beatles of course
Girlschool (the female motorhead)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I don't know any Brits who sing country. But there are Aussies.

Yeah Keith Urban, he's alright. You know he's married to Nicole Kidman, another Aussie.

message 29: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) Not a big country person, but I don't know of any Brits in that either
