Help! I want to write a story for a competion about teenage romance. I would like to do uptodate story like romeo and juliet changing the story and featuring two gays or lesbians as the lovers and being topical featuring a stabbing as the tragic end of their love. Would this be too bold a story for a competiton and does anybody have any thoughts about the plot as I'm struggling with just this idea in my head?

That sounds like a really interesting plot! I wouldn't know about it being too bold or not though...but the worst that can happen is you don't get in the top whatever of the competition, so I would write it if I were you. Even if you don't send it, you can post it on goodreads and have people enjoy reading it here.
too bold? never!!! awesome idea!!! like romeo's parents could be super conservative homophobes and juliet's could be hippy-ish...i like it and if it was a novel, i'd read it
i say go for it!!! some people might see it as a bold statement, but i think it's a great idea. i think it would be a really cool interpretation of romeo and juliet. it's better to take the risk and write an amazing story than to hold back and write something really lame. i wish you luck! :D
Yes! I hope you pursue your idea and find a market for it. The classic legend that inspired Shakespeare is just as applicable to your tale of "forbidden love" in the modern world. And for all R&J fans, I recommend LETTERS TO JULIET by Lise and Ceil Friedman--a beautiful celebration of R&J and the letters sent to Verona by troubled lovers asking for Juliet's advice (and answered by the Secretaries of Juliet).
