I have. For the most part my writing is pretty amateurish, or at least it feels that way. This is the possible first chapter of the most recent project I started.

I've tried writing other things, but didn't take them quite so seriously. Mostly it's an issue of maintaining interest and keeping the story sensible (the difference between fiction and the real world is that fiction has to be believable).

Anyway, what about you?

Joon (everythingbeeps) Not since college, for the most part. I expect that one day I'll pick it back up again.

My problem is that I try too hard to be clever, and it ends up sounding like every other amateur writer who thinks he's a genius. So for now I'm just focusing on reading.

Twylightqueen I've tried both original stories and fanfiction.

Eden Silverfox (tsalagi_writer) I'm actually writing the the first part of my book trilogy now. In the past I've written some short stories, poems and songs.

David McCann (dmccann) | 11 comments About 4 or 5 years ago, I spent a lot of time on the GameFAQs Roleplaying / Fanfiction board. Did a fair bit of writing there, got some of it saved in documents. I look at it every now and then - it's not very good though.

I have a few short stories saved from high school assignments or just experimental starts to novels. One I even got about 3 chapters in (but looking back at it, it's one of the worst things I've ever written). I'm a pretty harsh critic on myself, so I don't often share what I've written with others.

Oh, there's also a file I keep on my harddrive whenever I get an idea, or have a weird dream that I think would work. I feel like I'm constantly coming up with plot outlines that never completely develop. Since I was 7 or 8 I've wanted to write, but since leaving high school I've found that unless I set aside a specific time for writing, nothing ever gets done. I just dawdle around it and be incredibly lazy. Once I start, I really get going, but tackling my ideas often seems like a nightmare.
