The Gunslinger by Stephen King; 300 Pages. So now that the first part of Roland's journey is over, how does that leave me feeling? Even though there is some sense of AMBIGUITY about what direction his choices will take him, the sense of certainty about his ultimate course of action will always remain the same. I feel accomplished and satisfied yet hungry and wanting more. The final spin at the end really sent me for a loophole as far as the central plot is concerned. Though the outcome I predicted was the same, the course of events that sequenced themselves together that led up to the final conclusion were completely different than I had originally anticipated. His sense of MISANTHROPY somehow seemed to be diminishing because of the allies he had made in the most unlikely placed along with the assistance following the same fold. On the whole, I thought the book was something of a riveting cerebral puzzle that your subconscious was to solve. Each piece of the puzzle was a sequence of events that you pieced together whether it was from the past, present or future. Each piece that was introduced to you was not to be used instantly but cautiously at the right moments to reveal the final central outcome. I would not hesitate to recommend this book to a colleague of mine. The mental and cerebral stimulation from this book is completely intoxicating and enticing at the same time. King takes you for a ride that you have yet to experience or fathom. The PERAMETERS of your imagination will be tested and tested again. The story is unlike anything you could ever think to read. If you had to put a tag on it, it would be something like The Lord of the Rings meets Freddy vs. Jason.
The impact this book had on me, as a reader of course, was phenomenal. The bounds and limitations of my proficiency of an epic novel were changed and tested. Before reading this book, I honestly did not think a genuinely great book existed. Sure there were books you enjoyed and sure there were books that were interesting. But I had yet to cross a book that enticed me from beginning to end with the same passion and energy the entire way through. This book changed my perception of the reading lists that were out there. I discovered a whole new genre of book that I loved and wanted to read over and over and over again. This book taught me the value of a great story. Roland’s journey, as a Gunslinger, did more than entertain and entice me as a reader. He always traveled alone and never in groups or DYADS. His journey and his story taught me the value of persistence and tenacity. The cliché to never give up holds true to its name in fiction and non-fiction alike. So many obstacles stood in the way of Roland’s ultimate goal but he overcame them and pursued to his final destination. “Eddie seized the rags of Roland's shirt.”Are you going to get her killed?"
"We all die in time," the gunslinger said. "It's not just the world that moves on." He looked squarely at Eddie; his faded blue eyes almost the color of slate in the light. "But we will be magnificent." He paused. "There's more than a world to win, Eddie. I would not risk you and her-I would not have allowed the boy to die-if that was all there was.” ~Roland of Gilead. After reading many wise words such as these, it enticed me to take action to whatever goal that I set forth to accomplish and never let anything stand in my way.
Within all this enticing text and story, there was more than just entertainment in mind when King wrote this. Though his mode of discourse was narrative and his purpose to tell a story, he also wanted to teach us that stories and imagination knew no bounds. His purpose was to tell a story so different and so riveting it would change your definition of a great novel completely upside down. This story is not one to miss. Not only does it entice you from beginning to end with the same enthusiasm, but also teaches you many different lessons through Roland’s journey and his actions as well as stimulate your cerebral cortex like never before. This book is one big puzzle that your mind will unlock page by page. If you think you’ve figured out what’s going to happen, chances are you are furthest from the final destination and get ready to be mentally rocked. This book deserves a 5 out of 5 star rating because of what it has and what it doesn’t have. It doesn’t have any ridiculous story lines or wasteful pages of text and nothings. It has depth, BREADTH, and so much passion in the work. Before you pick up another book, this is the very next one you should read.
Since I am the first one to post a book review, I will say this. Besides project number two, this was probably the most fulfilling assignment for me. Even though I had read this book hundreds of times, I had never been able to analyze the text in this manner before nor possess the skills to do so correctly. I had learned so many things about my novel that I could have never figured out on my own. These eye opening new methods will give new heed to my reading abilities and boundaries.
Why Men Love Bitches, by Sherry Argov 278 pages. I'm way too nice when it comes to relationships so when I heard about this book from a friend I was interested right away. I really like this book, I think it is a great read and although brilliant in it’s’ scope covers its subject in language that is easy to understand. It comes in handy! I realize that orchestrating a healthy, happy, and honest relationship between two people takes work. This book has changed my life for the better; I will never go back to my old views. I now place a much higher value on myself.
I enjoyed reading this book because it's full of tips, tricks and ways to a healthy working relationship. I discovered the value of self esteem, and not being a doormat. The author explains ways to deal with the easiest situations in a relationship, especially the most common ones. She writes about ways to keep the boy attracted and interested and how to play it safe when it comes to getting serious. After reading it, I have learned ways to prevent being a push over. I understand ways on how to seem not so needy and to get him to understand that I choose to be with him, I don’t actually need to be. There is a big difference between choosing, which is proactive and needing, which is desperation. I will never again be the latter.
I would definitely recommend this book to another girl, I already have told some friends about it and they've purchased it. Four Stars! I hope I am not being didactic; I just want every girl who has wondered what is wrong with her in every relationship hat ended badly to read this book and free her from the female blame game! It's extremely helpful in erasing negativity and raising self awareness and self esteem,
You can find a specific issue you're dealing with and it'll have a chapter on it. Being in dyads can be confusing. Thankfully, It's full of "he says" "she says" or "he says" he thinks" so you know exactly how to keep up in the game of love. There were tons of great tips and quotes in this book. Extremely helpful were little tests here and there to see how badly you need the advice or a change from being a doormat. The quotes caught your eye. My favorite one was "He'll let a woman who becomes his doormat pay for dinner on the first couple of dates, but he wouldn’t think of it with his dreamgirl." This quote to me means basically he knows you're not the one, and you're wasting his time as well as yours but he might as well get the best of it, and of you, while he can.
What the entire book says not to do, I do. By reading this I have changed my whole perspective on dating and how to treat and how to be treated. It has helped me develop skills and sneaky secret ways into men’s brain and heart. Actually after reading this, I've been called back and asked out on dates. Yes, just by following simple advice I’m getting lucky! If you're being pushed around and having no luck with getting or keeping a relationship this book is for you, no doubt. You will not be disappointed. It makes you self empowered and can even build your self esteem and confidence to win a man’s heart. This isn’t a textbook requiring rote memorization; it is one that will carry you into your inner self easily and enjoyably. Enjoy the journey, and remember true actualization for you feminine soul waits
Glass 681 pagesI ended up falling in love with this book because people can actually relate to it. I don’t like books were they are completely unreal and could never happen. You know like the Harry Potter and Twilight series. Don’t get me wrong, they are good books, but they aren’t my cup of tea. This book, although it didn’t have the ending I would have liked, was so realistic and it could truly happen to anyone who was put into that situation. Everyone wants a happy ending and everything to work out for the better, but in a book like this you don’t always get that, and that’s what makes it so real. In life you don’t always get what you want, especially when it comes to drugs. I would highly recommend parents and teens to read this book. It will open their eyes and let them know what really can happen when you do meth and other drugs.
Before reading this I really didn’t know much about meth and what people really go through when they are addicted to it. I mean everyone knows that people who are addicted will do just about everything, but you truly don’t know unless you have been in the situation. Hopkins says, “Life was radical right after I met the monster. Later, life became harder, complicated. Ultimately, a living hell, like swimming against a riptide, walking the wrong direction in the fast lane of the freeway, waking from sweetest dreams to find yourself in the middle of a nightmare.”This book opened my eyes as to how it really is. It was so realistic it seemed as if one of my family members was doing it, so I was going through it with them. This book is the type of book where you can sit down and start reading it and you will not want to put it down. After reading this book I thought about all that people go through and that they really just need support. Families turn a blind eye as long as possible but they ultimately give up hope. These people are looking for an escape from everyday life and we need to find them an alternative to doing drugs.
The author’s purpose for writing this book is to EXEMPLIFY to people so they know the consequences of doing drugs. She has watched her family suffer through these things and doesn’t want anyone else to have to go through this. Her PHILANTHROPIC ways make her want people to be aware of the warning signs and get their love ones help, while they still can. Dealing with all of this before has made her SCRUTINIZE her family and gain a great understanding of DISPOSITION, making it a lot easier to help others. If I had to rate this book I would give it five stars. It was a great book.
Shannon reading your review has made me actually want to read this book. I have had it for about a year now, but when i started to read it i couldn't get into it. I guess now i will have to give it a chance. It sounds like it will be kind of interesting.
Jessica, You have me interested in your book as well! I also agree with the whole twilight and harry potter not being your cup of tea, their not mine either haha. I will shortly probably begin reading your book, I also do recommend you reading mine, you do already own it! haha
