Reading Nora and Beyond

How much Nora have you read?
My gosh, you are way ahead of me. According to GoodReads count I've read about 70 Nora books including JD Robb. I've not got to a lot of her earlier books. Its hard to say becasue I've read some of those that have 3 books in them and they count as one, etc. Last year I think she was the only author I read, and I still didn't get through tthem all. I've only read books 1 - 6 of the In Death Series. I'd love to start buying them and collecting. I'm mostly a library girl. :)
If you check out her website, her entire booklist is on there. I've read every single NR book, from the very first she ever published to the last, except for High Noon, and her new one, Tribute. I don't buy hardcover - too pricey for me, I wait for the MMP. High Noon will be out in MMP format in June, while Tribute is only out in Hardcover in July. As for her J.D. Robb series, it is important to read them in order - or you will get lost. Trust me, I started with book #17, Immitation in Death, without realizing it was part of a series, LOL! I learned my mistake and started from scratch, ordering the first three, then the next three, and so on, until I had them all. I haven't read Strangers in Death as of yet - a friend kindly lent me her hardcover :).
For anyone looking for a Nora booklist, there is one posted in the groups Book Lists folder. It's a lot more organized than the one on her website - at least it was the last time I saw her list. I'm working on fixing a few issues on my list that's posted here and adding links.
Anywho...it took me over 2 years to read and collect the bulk of her stuff. I drove my Mom nuts helping me look for books. The 3-in-1 and 2-in-1 anthologies make it so much easier to read her early stuff, at least. I generally don't buy hardcover (to expensive) but I will for her books. I'm too impatient to wait for the paperbacks. I just wish I could find a copy of Promise Me Tomorrow.
The In Death series....I'm still missing books 3-7 I think, which is why I haven't started on them yet. I've been picking them up used so it's kinda the luck of the draw if I find them or not.

I have read all of her books under both Nora and J.D. Robb. I also own all but maybe 10 of her books. I have them all broken down by series in my personal library. If anyone wants any help with her books let me know.
According to this place I have read 94 of her books. I own all of the 94 and am trying to convert paperbacks to hard covers but am finding it hard to do.I just can't get into the jd robb books. I am not sure and it drives me crazy because I love Nora Roberts
I plan to eventually read the J.D. Robb books, but I'm not overly excited about them since I'm not sure I'll like them. So I'm just slowly collecting them as I go along.
I've read quite a few of them but I just can't get into the J.D. Robb books. I tried.
I have several in my tbr but have read 6 of hers? under Roberts but all of her J.D. Robb series. I was just wondering if her writing has changed much over the years and if it's worth it to go back to find her early books. My first of her's was the Blue Dahlia series which I really loved.
Her earlier books are a lot different than the ones she writes today. They were all short, category romances published mostly for Silhouette Special Edition and some other Silhouette lines. I know a lot of Nora fans don't care for her earlier work. For me, a lot are hit and miss, cute romances but not really stand out. But the ones she wrote that are part of a series of some sort are great...the MacGregors, Stanislaskis, Night Tales, Cordina...etc. If you don't mind reading short, basic romances, then you'd probably enjoy them. But if you prefer fuller books, then maybe not.
I'm with Isis, to me her early work is hit or miss. I love her stuff beyond 1990. She has added a lot more mystery to her single titles, which I love.
Collette, if you think you might like some of her short romance novels, there are a couple of her earlier ones that are worth reading. Personally, I love her first ever published book, Irish Thoroughbred (and it's 2 sequels).
The Order-Published list posted in this group might be helpful for you to find stuff of hers to read.

I've realized I don't like much of her work from the eighties, either. Books like "Blyth Images" comes to mind. I had read a lot of her her current books and picked that one up. I found myself thinking "that's it"? Just not as much to the stories, I guess. However, I did love the MacGregors, and I do plan to check out the other series that Isis mentioned above.
When I get a chance today, I'll poke through the lists and post a list of recs of her short romance stuff because there are some that are stand-out, but a lot are just cute to read them if you can, but not must-read stuff.
Thanks Isis. I was looking through your list. Very impressive and a lot of work from the looks of it. It will be very helpful though. :) I'll have to look for the Irish Thoroughbred series and see what I think about her earlier work.
I really enjoyed her Dahlia series because the characters seemed to have spunk? and it wasn't so sappy. I'm not big on sappy romance I guess.
I agree about the short silhouette books--they weren't as good, and the women weren't strong type of woman that she writes now. I tried going back and reading some of her old ones, got through a couple, but they women aren't the great, strong women that they are in her books now!
I have read just about everything except some of her earlier books. I epecially love her trilogies. I still have to read Tribute
I have only read a few..maybe 4 total. I am starting Tribute tomorrow and I am excited! I haven't read a bad book by her yet!
I just stared Irish Hearts; Its got her first two books in one. It's pretty good so far, however, I do agree her newer stuff is better.
For me when I read her older stuff, I don't really compare them to her full length books because they're just completely different types of stories.
I really enjoyed the Irish Hearts books. I think I gave them both 5 stars, but it's a different kind of 5 stars than I'd give say, Honest Illusions.

I just started reading Nora Roberts. I started by just picking a random one off the shelf, as I had no idea who she was when I picked it up but I wanted a romance book to help me get in the romantic mood more often. Anyways, I sped through two short Irish ones in one book - i think they were called "Sullivan's Woman" and I can't remember the other one - something about a woman and man raising horses together. My sister in law just gave me "Blue Dahlia" of the "In the Garden" series so I'm starting on that now. Any ideas of which ones to start on after this series?-Mindy
I really liked the In the Garden triolgy. There are so many to pick from, but Three Sisters Island trilogy is also really good, IMO.
I've read all except for the newest In Death and Tribute. I just can't justify the expense of hardcover so I have to wait. I hate to wait! I downloaded the list several years ago and have been working to have her entire catalog in my home library. LOL, I had to have new shelves built last year!
LOL, Crystal - yeah, shelving all my Nora books is not an easy thing! They take up so much room!
I've read about 90% of her books as well. I'm also one of her readers who doesn't like her earlier works. Too cheesy for me. I didn't care much for the Three Sisters Island trilogy. I loved the Garden trilogy & The Keys. Blue Dahlia is another favorite of mine. I've read a few J.D. Robb books but didn't care for them. I haveTribute & another books of hers in my TBR pile.
Hello, I'm brand new to Goodreads, but not to Nora Roberts. I have probably read everything she's written to date. If I do find something I haven't read, I have to get it asap and drop what I'm reading to read that. Hope that doesn't mean I'm crazy, just crazy about Nora's books!
Hi Kerri - you're not alone. I am a total Noraholic too! You'll find a lot of us are, here in this group. Welcome :)
Hi Kerri - I am also a Noraholic and always look forward to new books coming out, old ones that I have not read, ones seh has not written yet......yes I am crazy and crazy abou Nora's books also. Welcome to Goodreads !!!
Hi Kerri, I'm another NR fan, can't wait till her next title comes out! When she does a trilogy, I make myself wait till ALL 3 titles are released before I read it, because I simply drive myself crazy waiting for #2, then go crazy waiting for #3 LOL. Welcome :)
I have 45 Nora Roberts books marked as read here on goodreads, but as I went through the entire listing here on this group I am realizing that I have probably read more. The issue is this, because I have read so many (and I read so fast)it is difficult to remember the details of them all. That is why I like the trilogies and the family series; I grow attached to the characters and am therefore able to remember more of the details. I used to buy all my Nora books, but I have started using the library and I really like being able to do that (in this down economy), but I miss seeing them all on my book shelves.Happy Reading,
April
I'm with April... I read pretty fast and blur some of the details. I think I've read most everything that she has written but I know I probably have missed a few here or there. I used to buy them when they came out in paperback but now I get them at the library or borrow from friends.
HI. IT'S GOOD TO KNOW OTHERS DO LIKE ME AND WAIT UNTIL ALL THREE BOOKS ARE OUT TO READ THE SERIES. I'VE BEEN COLLECTING HER BOOKS FOR YEARS. I LOVE TO GO TO YARD SALES, FEA MARKETS, AND ANY BOOK SALE LOOKING FOR HER BOOKS. PROMISE ME TOMORROW AND FROM THIS DAY IS THE ONLY ONES THAT I HAVEN'T FOUND. I DON'T GET ENOUGHT TIME TO READ SO NOW I'M COLLECTING AUDIO BOOKS. I HAVE ALL THE JD ROBB. I LOVE THE DIFFERNET VOICES NOW WHEN I READ I HEAR THE VOICES AS I READ.
I certainly haven't read them all, but I've been working through any that we have in the house, including the J.D. Robb, which we have most of those. I've also been going to the library at any convenient time to get more. I'd say that I've probably read around 50 of her books at least.
Just kidding, needed to crrect myself. With Roberts and J.D. Robb combined, I've actually read around 70 of her books. It's a bit of a difference and I wanted to correct myself.
There are a few of Nora's very early books that I haven't been able to get my hands on. When I do find one, it's like I've won my own personal lottery! I've never counted all I've read. Something to do, someday...
I just started reading Nora's books and my very first was Midnight Bayou. As soon as I finished it I was hooked and the very next day went out to get more. At the moment Im reading Brazen Virtue. I wish I knew it was part of a series but oh well, there's just more books to add on my shelf.
Chasidy, Brazen Virtue and Sacred Sins are connected, but not so much that you would be totally confused reading them out of order. I just stumbled upon the second one and realized while reading.. HEY! I know this health nut guy from somewhere!
Health nut guy? That's one way of putting it. I am falling head over heals in-love with NR books and can't wait to add more books to my collection. I never in a million years thought I would've picked up her books. I've had the same mentality about reading Roberts and Steel for as long as I can remember but things have currently changed. I love Roberts now.
I know what you mean Chasidy, I always tell other readers, oh, I don't do the fluffy romance.......well.......except for Nora Roberts LOL.For some reason, I'll read her "fluffy" romance just as quick as one of her suspense titles! Naw....I can't figure it out either!! :D
Sherry, I haven't read any of her "fluffy" romance (as you so well put it) either. My NR list is growing and I've already added a few books to my never ending list I am dying to pick up. I just finished reading Blue Smoke and loved it. I have no idea which book to read next. Any ideas?

I've read pretty much everything she's written under the name Nora Roberts. The only book I haven't is Promise Me Tomorrow because it's impossible to find at a cheap price. Oh, and I still have to read Blood Brothers and The Hollow, but I'm waiting for The Pagan Stone on those two.
I haven't yet read any J.D. Robb books. I have a lot of them, but I am trying to collect them all before I start reading and I'm still missing a handful of the earliest ones.
