Vampires emit a dangerous sexual allure that few other Pn beings in romance have captured [for me:]. Shifters often have a powerful, masculine sexual nature. Demons, well damn, lol. They come in all shapes and sizes. Vamps have that added ability to bite/feed from erogenous zones [neck, wrists, groin:] as well. So if you've got a sensitivity to that area just reading that would be nice. The blood part not so sexy, but the biting and danger and everything else I can deal with.

That is very interesting, I like the way you can so what exactly you like about the vampire.

I wrote a short story about a demon with fangs. The whole bite causing orgasm really made me a fan of vampires and vampire romance =DThat is very interesting, I like the way you can so what exactly you like about the vampire.
Thanks! I've given some thought as to why I am such a rabid fan of PNR =D
Kenji stated it very well. I wasn't really into vamp romance until I read Christine Feehan's Carpathians, Immortals After Dark by Kresley Cole, and the Black Dagger Brotherhood by JR Ward. I'm more of a werewolf girl. There is something very erotic in a good way about how they present vampires. Before that I liked the bad vamps get staked kind of books. I still do like those, but also the sexy romantic vamp stories, as well.

interesting, I am still more of a werewolf fan, but now I see why people like that type of book.

Vampires are like those bad boy types your parents always warned you to stay away from, but you always seemed to be drawn to. I LOVES ME SOME VAMP LOVE!!! There's just something about the forbidden love lust between a vampire and a human person and the eternalness of it all that I just can't get enough of

I'm really a Shifter girl but think i love the brooding Vamps more. You know the ones who hate what they are and try their damndest to fight what is their nature. I really don't find the whole dead, drinking blood thing sexy. It's more of how the writer fleshes out their personality. I think the fact that they're Vampires heightensd the fantasy for me just for the fact that they are mostly invicible. I'm probably not making sense lol.
I have asked myself that question many times. The sexy powerful immortal thing is a given but I find that I also enjoy the story more when the vamp has had to pay a price for his beauty and immortality. I like to experience their stuggle to keep their humanity and to find purpose through good deeds. I like writers that have older vamps that have lived through major historical events and seen the world change. Other immortals do not seem to care as much about the human experience like vamps.
JD--have you read any of the St. Germaine books? Hotel Transylvania by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro is one of them. In HER books, her vampire is an actual historical person. In either her foreword or afterword of one of the books, she talks about how she came to choose St. Germaine as her vamp. And I can totally understand, since from the bit I know about him, he really WAS fascinating.

When I decided to turn my historical novel about Harold Godwinson and the battle of 1066 into a vampire novel, I had this great discussion with a friend. We decided that vampires meet a woman's needs at a very basic survival level. They are very hard to kill, so the woman will always have a protector. They are strong and VERY experienced, thus able to protect very well. They will kill to survive (so the woman doesn't have to). And the vampires won't be around during the day to get in the way of the things a woman does for survival. After Eventide

LMAO I never thought about what I'd do with a vamp who couldn't be around during the day but yes I'd definitely be able to do what I needed in that time.

lol, that reminds me of one of the Terry Pratchett Diskworld novels. One that features Granny Wetherwax and Nanny Ogg. Its kind of a weird mix of Cinderella meets the Frog Prince thing. And Nanny is thinking about the Duc SPOILER ALERT

SPOILER ALERT
Who is actually a FROG turned into a "prince". Anyhoo Nanny is thinking that it would be great if she could reverse the transformation process. Not have him around during the day to muck things up--but having him at night for um, well, you know. Nanny is a VERY Earthy character. I giggle like crazy every time I read that passage.
Oh--and she admits to the fact that with the inversion, you didn't have a pay packet, but she figured that was OK since he'd be MUCH too busy with his nightly "chores." lol
vamps to me are very alluring. they make u feel special cause they chose u and they've seen all that's out there. they are old but look young and have so much knowledge of the past. they have experienced some of everything. know more about human nature and are normally very smart. so strong but yet vulnerable to the weaker. lets not forget extremely sexual with strong passions. and the biting is a major plus =)

i just finished Dead to the World over the weekend and am even more drawn to vamps =) especially Eric. hehe
Strangely, I just blogged about vampire (and zombie) romance...and how they aren't my thing! I love the various characters; don't get me wrong. I think they make excellent...monsters. Truth is though, I can't get past the "dead" part...that just kills any chance of "romance" for me. I've nothing against the books, but I find I avoid the "romance" ones in favor of vamps as either bad guys or neutral characters.Zombies I have an even harder time with. I mean...just ick!

I was wondering what draws you to read a vampire romance, on what level do you relate to the characters?
