Covet (Fallen Angels, #1) by J.R. Ward Crave (Fallen Angels, #2) by J.R. Ward

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 49 comments Loving the US cover for Crave...

As for the series (all one book of it so far), I'm enjoying it. I think Covet was a really strong start to a series - more so than Dark Lover was for the BDB. I look forward to learning more about the supporting characters like Adrian - it's an interesting premise.

Mariya (cr6zym0nkeyiz) could someone tell me more about this series??

Regina (reginar) Unfortunately this is kind of like Phury's book of the BDB/Ward series -- it seems like people either love or strongly dislike it. I didn't read Covet, but only listened to it on audio. It took perseverence to stick through the beginning of the story for me. It had so much story set up and it was hard to get attached to any of the characters. I ended up liking it 1/2 way through and I will likely listen to Crave on audio when it comes out or buy it when it is low cost, but I am not antsing for the release at all.

What is it about? Three "fallen angels" who inhabit our time are after and do battle with a demon who is an embodied in a very hot woman. The main fallen angel has to fight 7 battles based on the 7 deadly sins -- each book I think is about one of them. Hope I am getting this right. Like Ward's other books, there is a romance and budding relationship -- those characters (Vin and Marie Therese) will not appear in the next book, it is the Fallen Angels who carry the story on and move on to save the next soul.

I liked the idea of the story, I liked the romance between Vin and Marie Therese. I liked Ward's creation of the demon and the storyline of how to fight the demon off. But there are alot of weaknesses in the story -- mainly in the way it is told, just from my perspective. I did not get attached to the fallen angels, but like I wrote above -- some people love them. I am hoping for more interaction between them in Crave that allows us to get closer to the fallen angels.

I gave Covet 2 stars.

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 49 comments LOL, well I was a huge fan of Phury's book, so I guess I'll share my thoughts on Covet. I'm cheating though, as this is just a copy and paste of my review:

I had high expectations going into this book, being such a huge fan of Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series - and she didn't disappoint. Covet is a really strong first novel of what promises to be an exciting and thoroughly enjoyable series.

She's developed a great character in Jim, giving us a glimpse into his past, and leaving us anxious to learn more. His cohorts - Eddie, Adrian (and Dog) also have interesting pasts I'm anxious to discover and their presence made the story much more enjoyable. Vin and Marie-Terese were wonderful characters. I'm only disappointed that we may not see them again.

Fans of the BDB will love the familiar locations and characters from the obvious - Trez and De La Cruz - to the subtle appearances - Phury and Butch.

Overall, I think this was a much stronger start to the series than Dark Lover was, which is saying a lot as much as I love the BDB series. Annual releases in the Fallen Angel series will go a long way towards helping me get over the disappointment of only getting on BDB book a year.

Regina (reginar) Darkheart -- I wonder if there is some sort of connection between fans of Phury's book and Covet? Maybe I should do a study? :-)

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 49 comments LOL, maybe so. ;)

Mrs. Badass (mrsbadass) | 28 comments I didn't love it. Didn't feel connected to any character, didn't get who was who for like 100 pages, hated the varying point of views, felt there was too much boring filler. I did like Marie Therese and Vin, but it still felt sort of forced love at first siteish. I liked seeing Trez, and phury's guest appearance. It's not on my MUST BUY DAY IT COMES OUT LIST OR I DIE tho.. I will read Crave, I just am not dying to read it...

Regina (reginar) Is Trez in BDB? I completely forgot .... loved Trez -- he was one of the better characters, LOL.

Regina (reginar) Oh yea. Now I remember.

MommaBear I'm currently reading Possession, 5 / 6 in this series. This book is a real struggle for me to get through, I have a ton of remarks pencilled in the margins of my paperback. Ward never really got into the "sins" these books are supposed to reflect, or I totally missed them. Her style of writing grates on my nerves lately, but I will persevere, determined to finish the cut-short series (6 books instead of the originally intended 7). Am really not liking Jim, his stupid obsession with Sissy (what a name!), and I miss Adrian, my favorite character. Please, someone say I'll end up liking this book, and that the next / final one is a satisfying conclusion. I've given up on Ward's promises of the Fallen Angels and the BDB intersecting, btw.
