Erotic themes in PNR (and UF)

I consider erotica if the main focus is sex/erotica, that is the theme -- and then the author adds another context contemporary, PNR or whatever.
I do not consider books with steamy sex scenes erotica.

I am the same I don't consider books with steamy sex scenes erotica. Although I think some people would consider it so.
For example I think some people would consider the Black Dagger Brotherhood erotica where as I just think of that as PNR/UF the same with the Carpathian series by Chrsitina Feehan. I would consider Bianca D'Arcmore of an erotica writer rather then a PNR writer.

I will have to look in to D'Arcmore.
Hmm, the add books macro thing isn't working. I think the Dark Elves by Jet Mykles is erotica, I think the Lord of Sartyr series is erotica (bad erotica, I don't particularly like this series at all). I have some others I have downloaded on my kindle but have not read yet.

D'Arc is okay, not some of my fave books though. I don't mind erotica and I do read it occasionally but I prefer romance over all. The erotica ones that I quite like is Jaid Black, I like her viking series.
I haven't read the Dark Elves one, but have just marked it as to-read lol

I wouldn't class BDB as erotica as it isn't the main plot line and isn't particularly graphic, Anne Rice, who I class as a big PR author, wrote the Beauty series (an erotic twist on the childrens tale of sleeping beauty). There are many books that I have bought in the paranormal romance section that when I have read them I have found that they are definately more of the erotic than PR, these are books that I have bought from places like WH Smiths and Borders so I think there is a grey area between the two and a lot of it depends on your own interpritation of the 2 genres.
I would define erotica as having the main emphasis on the sexual acts and having long drawn out details. Like Suzanne though I prefer romance to erotica.

I think Christine Warrenbooks are more borderline.
I get bored with erotica tbh, there is only so many times you can read the same sort of scene, especially when there is little stroy to back it up! But I read it every now and then if it catches my fancy, you know for tips ; ) lol

What makes a book erotic rather than a sexy romance for example? Do you read them? Maybe you will find you read books others consider to be and you don't!
