The Sinner
Honestly, I remember The Sinner as being one of my least favorite in series - it'll be interesting to see what I think on second reading.
How does a dead young nun connect to another body found in an old restaurant with feet and hands cut off? That was some pretty gruesome stuff in the restaurant.

I'm liking how we get to see Rizzoli & Isles working together and their friendship developing - so in that regard, this is an important book in the series. We also meet Father Daniel Brophy, who will be a returning character in the series.
It's interesting to learn about Maura's past too. I've noticed in both The Apprentice and The Sinner, Maura's hair is described as "Raven" or "Black". Did her hair color change in subsequent books? The actress that portrays her in the new series doesn't have black hair. Am I mixed up or did I miss something?

I liked this passage about how Maura was feeling:
"You know that movie, where the little boy says 'I see dead people'?"
"The Sixth Sense"
"Well, I see them all the time, and I'm getting tired of it. That's what's ruined my mood. Here it is, almost Christmas, and I didn't even think about putting up a tree, because I'm still seeing the autopsy lab in my head. I'm still smelling it on my hands. I come home on a day like this, after two postmortems, and I can't think about cooking dinner. I can't even look at a piece of meat without thinking of muscle fibers. All I can deal with is a cocktail. And then I pour the drink and smell the alcohol, and suddenly there I am, back in the lab. Alcohol, formalin, they both have that same sharp smell."

Anyway, here's my review: http://booksoutofthebookshelves.blogs... :)

No you didn't miss anything. That was a producer/director decision. Straight from Tess's mouth when i met her after a book signing and asked her about her thoughts on the show... apparently in Europe, it is easier to sell a TV series with two heroines like this when one is blonde and one brunette. So they changed Maura's hair color for that reason. They also toned her character down a little bit and made her not quite as intense as she comes across in the books sometimes for the same reasons.
this book is amazing. Descriptive and with an interesting plot, it definitely holds attention. I will agree with questions about the tv series. I must admit although I was super excited they were making her books into a series, I was sadly disappointed that they did not keep Maura the way she was intended, i.e. Black hair, semi-gothic in dress. I understand the selling point but the character is who she is. But as for this book, a definitely favorite in Tess's Books. I would love to meet her.

Haha. Yes Id love to meet Tess Gerritsen as an aspiring novelist itd be absolutely amazing to meet one of my favorite respected authors. And if Maura was real, she and rizzoli and I would get along very well.

As for the TV show, meh. I was disappointed, especially because I really enjoy the books (isn't that always the case, though?). I don't like Angie Harmon as Jane. I think shes' too pretty and way too physically fit. I know, I know, sex sells :p

Keep reading :-) I think the better books in the series are still waiting for you, but that's just my opinion.

I actually love this book. And yes it is probably number 2 in the series. Hard to place them though right? Body DOuble was great, so was the apprentice, and bone garden. But i must say The Sinner and Mephisto Club stick out the most.

Well, you are ahead of the rest of us :-) I probably won't get to this one until next month, but I do plan to re-read it for the group read. This will be my third time reading The Sinner.

Started yesterday and am about a quarter of the way thru the book. As always am enjoying reading a Tess Gerritsen book.

You still have lots of time. It seems to be a rather fast moving book and I am over half done now. As always I am enjoying reading a Tess Gerritsen novel. The only book so far that I have not been able to get into is Bone Garden.

This has been the only TG book I have not been able to read. Never finished it! I love her books, and this one was just not one I liked at all.
I'm about half-way through. I will probably give it 4 stars :-) I have gotten nicer on my star-giving and previously only gave it 3 stars.

I agree. I keep going back and forth between a 3 or 4 star rating. I think The Sinner may be the weakest novel in the Rizzoli & Isles Series :-(

I just finished The Mephisto Club on Saturday. It was a great book! Now you got me geared up to read The Keepsake.
Wes wrote: "I liked how it was different than the first two. Sometimes an author's books in a series will be too similar, so I was glad this was not the case here. It is understandable that readers will like some books in a series better than others. I'm grateful to a friend who urged me to read TG!"
I agree. Tess' Rizzoli & Isles books are all very different delving into interesting ideas/topics. I really like what Tess has done with this series. There are some great adventures into various issues ahead of you in the coming books Wes :-) You're gonna love them!

I liked both of these books Jannene especially The Keepsake. Have you read them yet?

Curlyhair wrote: "From what I remember of the first two books, this is a much easier read!"
I CAN see how that would be :-) It does seem an easier read to me too.

Glad you enjoyed The Sinner. Hope you enjoy book four, Body Double. I personally enjoyed Body Double more than The Sinner :-)

Thanks for your replies, nice to hear from someone.
Sometimes I post comments in threads and wonder if anyone is reading them :-) don't worry people are here, even if you can't see them. Now I hope that don't give you the creeps and scare you away - please keep posting.
