Bought some more vintage kids books today, the woman in the shop asked if I was a teacher and then looked at me funny when I said "no, I just like collecting children's books".
Also, not purchases, but I won this one:
and got this one from a swap:
My first May purchase was an arrival from Borders. Hook and Jill is an awesome retelling of the story of Peter Pan. I first checked it out of the library and after reading it I knew I had to own it so I could reread it whenever I wanted. This is such a deep book I just know that there is more to get from it than just one reading could get.
I ordered 13 books from dorchesterpublishing.com, they are having a sale. I got 4 books at a yard sale yesterday. And I ordered 2 books from amazon,
"Savor the Moment" by Nora Roberts from Sam's Club. I need to do a lot of reading to catch up to all my previous purchases!
Not exactly purchases, but I got
via GR Swap and received
, which I won through GR Firstreads. (Apparently, it is finally being re-released after many years.)
Only 4, but it is only May 3. Oh wait, bought them May 2. I was bored and wandered through Walmart and found:Carol Higgins Clark [image error] Cursed: A Regan Reilly Mystery
James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge
The Dangerous Days of Daniel X John Grisham
The Partner David B. Coe
Robin Hood
Okay, I was going to try to make it till May 15 without buying any books but I went to the ubs today and got 7 books. At least I had trade credit for it all.
I've managed to only buy one book so far this month,
but there are several new ones that are coming out later this month that I'll be getting!

[bookcover:Fire In His Ey..."For the first book its $3.49 and if you buy any additional books from the same seller they charge you $1.89 per additional book. I usually try to find 2-3 books from the same seller that way I save on shipping.
I bought a few from a ubs today....
I'm at 14 so far... but Saturday I'm going to a huge county sponsored library book sale in Sacramento, Ca which is about a 2 hr drive away. They are supposed to have over 80,000 books avail!! Who knows how many I will come home with! I'm so excited!
This Robin Hobb Series - though not the editions with that ugly cover art pictured. All from local independant book store.
Not really liking this one
from Borders Australia website books came via USA. And enjoying writing exercises
also from Borders.Disappointed with quality of the book cover material - cheap paper cardboard - dull and scratchy - yuck. from Borders. Not started reading yet!

I was able to stay dry and safe, thanks. I can hardly wait to see what you get from the mega book sale today!
I have returned from the mother ship of book sales!! Holy cow it was huge! They easily could have had 100,000 books there. It was set up in a wherehouse with metal shelving probably 6 ft high through out the wherehouse. Filled with books!! It was like stepping foot in the promised land! They had hardbacks and paperbacks. Books from every genre. From science and religion to history and cooking. They had kids books and mystery, romance, health, etc. I think we where there a good 3 hours. After we left there we had to check out a few used book stores also. So here is a list of the bags, and bags of books brought home...
Holy moley!! I think that puts me at 68 so far! Happy Mothers day to all of you mothers out there!

Some of those are very recent releases, I can't believe they were at the book sale. Congrats on the very, very nice haul!

Paperbacks were selling for .50 and hardback books $2.
I received two more books in swap:
Edit to add: Valorie, that book sale sounds heavenly! My local (Tacoma, WA) library system never has sales on their event calendar, which perplexes me. Neighboring Seattle has them occasionally, but I never seem to make them. I am envious, yet glad you had such a good book-hunting day!
Wow Valorie that sale sounds awesome!!! I'm assuming the prices were good!? I really gotta find me a sale like that around here!!!
Thanks Candiss & Suz! It was wonderful! The Sacramento county library system has these huge book sales every 4 months, so we are planning on going again in September!Candiss: someone posted this website on last months purchase thread and I use it to find book sales now. Its great! Big kisses to whoever posted it! Here is the link for Washington...

Oh I was a bad person yesterday.....I bought several (10) books for my NOOK. It was so easy. Just point and click and the book was delivered to my NOOK. I got THE BOOK THIEF, THE LADY IN THE TOWER,THE SIXTH WIFE, KATHERINE OF ARAGON, LOYAL IN LOVE, QUEEN'S DEVOTION, VICTORIA VICTORIOUS, MARY, QUEEN OF FRANCE,LAND OF A HUNDRED WONDERS. Most of these books were Jean Plaidy books. I do love her writing.
I went to a book sale yesterday and bought 30 books for 50 cents each. They're mostly historical romance and romantic suspense.
Wow. Some of you have a real stock of new books. So great. I got 'just' three books so far
,but the month is not over yet :p I am looking forward to some sales.
A nice order of 11 books is on its way from Amazon.com:

I've been reading
and look forward to reading other books by the author. From Barnes and Noble my honey bought me
and
Hmmm, it might be time for a Kindle or a Nook.
Gallifreyan, you're going to like Nine Gates and Thirteen Orphans. FYI, the third in the series Five Odd Honors is coming out end of May or beginning of June, I believe.
I got "Dead in the Family" by Charlaine Harris and "Love Mercy" be Earlene Fowler (PB) had a Barnes and Noble gift card from my bro and sis in law for bday . brings my total to 3 this month now!
Michelle I'm so jealous you found the Warrior Ascended used! I'm still waiting for it to show in one of the ubs's in my area! I really liked Stolen Fury hope you enjoy it!
Valorie wrote: "I went to a few ubs's today and picked up....

[bookcover:Her Vampire Husband|702..."You're jealous?! Puhleeze! I'm jealous, your ubs has the best selection.
I've gotten 26 books from www.booksfreeswap.com , 11 from the thrift store, 27 from www.paperbackswap.com , 4 from a yard sale, 3 from www.amazon.com , and 13 from www.dorchesterpublishing.com , and 22 ebooks (though I don't know if that number is correct). And the month is only half over....yikes!!!
My friends, I must say I've felt like I was going through withdrawal reading about the great amounts that you've bought so far this month and I haven't. Well, I got a great "dose" of books this weekend. A new used-book store just opened in my area, the closest one to me, only 20 minutes away, and it's both a blessing and a curse. At Half Price Books I bought 19 books, but I can honestly say I did not spend a single cent of my paycheck. I spent my tax return instead. ;-)
The books I got to add to my library are:
Nevada Barr's Winter Study, Endangered Species, Track of the Cat, and Blood Lure
Margaret Truman's Murder in Foggy Bottom and Murder at the Opera
Elizabeth Peters's Lord of the Silent, Guardian of the Horizon, The Curse of the Pharaohs, and Children of the Storm
Patricia Briggs's Moon Called
Sue Grafton's B is for Burglar and J is for Judgment
James D. Doss's White Shell Woman and The Night Visitor
Nancy Farmer's A Girl Named Disaster
Clive Cussler's Night Probe!
Ellis Peters's Brother Cadfael's Penance: The Twentieth Chronicle of Brother Cadfael and The Sanctuary Sparrow: The Seventh Chronicle of Brother Cadfael
Elizabeth Kostova's The Swan Thieves
Half Price Books is a dangerous place for a bibliophile to go, it's practically an enabler for our addiction. lol
