Carmen | 32 comments The Saxon Chronicles (The Last Kingdom, The Pale Horseman, Lords of the North, Sword Song, etc.) by Bernard Cornwell are great.

And they have romance too.

You can read my review of The Last Kingdom at

Carmen | 32 comments Also, from a totally different angle, I just saw How to Train Your Dragon with my children. It is about Vikings all right and it is a lot of fun. It does have some romance too. (You can see my review at

I have not read the books by the movie is based on a MG series by Cressida Cowell. You may want to check it out.

Rebecca | 14 comments If you don't mind reading young adult, Daughter of Fire and Ice by Marie-Louise Jensen. Has a romance as well as lots of adventure.

Kristen | 1 comments If you don't mind Viking fantasy, Troll Mill, Troll Fell and Troll Blood by Katherine Langrish are all good. The last one is about the Vikings who went to the Americas. There is romance wound through all three, culminating in the last one.

Monya (monyamary) | 61 comments Viking Romance - An oldie and you may have trouble finding it, but "An Old Captivity" by Nevil Shute will suit you down to the ground. Won't tell any spoilers!

And it may be cheaper to order it from The Book Depository in the U.K., they post (ship) all over the world for free.

Best of luck,
Monya

Monya (monyamary) | 61 comments Nope, there's Vikings there. Spoiler here ... time travel involved, before it became a fashionable writing tool.

Will be interested to hear how you like it. Of course, it may not be your cup of tea at all. But Nevil Shute's books are all easy reading.

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) | 45 comments There's a really good book by Juliet Mariller about Viking berserkers, called Wolfskin. However, I wouldn't call it "clean" - there are approx. 3 love scenes - not very graphic, but still not clean. Other than that, I'd recommend the TROLL TRILOGY (which someone else already mentioned) by Katherine Langrish. She's a very sweet, talented lady and her books are so fun!

Hi Kiki,

At a writers conference I went to last month, I attended a workshop by an author named Leigh Bale. She publishes inspirational romances with Steeple Hill, but in her class, she mentioned that she'd written a Viking romance that she had to publish through an e-publisher because it wasn't "sexy enough" for the national market. I haven't read the book, so I can't say just how "sweet" or not it is, but I'm guessing it's on the sweet side. If you're interested, it's called The Heart's Warrior. I just looked on Goodreads, and apparently it's available in print, now, too. I'll add a link at the end of this note.

Also, I don't know if you're interested in original sources, but there's a book that I really enjoyed a few years ago called Njal's Saga. It was written in the 13th century and isn't strictly a romance, but I really enjoyed the characters and am planning to read it again...someday. :-)

The Heart's Warrior
Njal's Saga

Glad to help, Kiki. :-) I'd love to know what you think of Njal's Saga when you read it.

Kristen | 3 comments Hi Kiki,

I love Vikings too! In fact, the hero of my book All Fired Upis a Viking. It's a contemporary paranormal romance, but you might like it.

Vickie Britton | 13 comments My sister and I wrote a book The Viking Crown that is kind of a gothic set in Central America. Though it isn't set in Viking days, it has a lot about Viking history in it. A larger publisher wanted to buy it, but they wanted us to "spice it up." We didn't so it's sort of a historical romance without the racy sex scenes. I just don't think they are necessary. If anyone's interested it is available only on Kindle.
