New book for May - Fire of the Covenant: The Story of the Willie and Martin Handcart Companies by Gerald Lund. Enjoy!!!

I just started this yesterday.....it's HUGE! Going on trek this summer with our Stake's YW/YM, so this will definitely get me in a pioneer frame of mind :) Elder Lund is a talented writer...so far, so good.

I finished Fire of the Covenant last night....did not disappoint. Has anyone else been reading it? Anyone?

I'm still waiting on it from the library. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed it though!

I enjoyed this one overall. I find Lund's love stories to contrived, but the actual story of the handcart company is pretty incredible to read about.

my family had a trip to Martin's Cove in 2004. I read the book in preparation for that. I did enjoy the book. I recently finished "The Undaunted" which is about the Hole in the Rock Expedition. Jens Nielson who was part of the Willie Handcart Company was a leader in this expedition. Mr. Lund did a good job with this book too.

I finally got Fire of the Covenant: The Story of the Willie and Martin Handcart Companies from the library. It's a much faster read than I expected. I'm really enjoying it so far.

I inherited this book from my late father-in-law and plan to read it at some point (soon, I hope!). Every July, I think, "this will be the year," but other things come up instead. I'd also like to read The Undaunted at some point.
