Allie :: literarilythrilling (literarilythrilling) The book we shall be reading this month is The Hunger Games. I have already read this and am excited to read it again! I would most definitely say that this is my favorite YA book to come out in the past few years and I hope that you guys enjoy it, as well!

Use this thread to post discussions of the book. Happy reading, all!

Stéphanie (stephlrx) I really enjoyed this book and its sequel. I read both of them late last year and I got hooked to the series. I can't wait for the next one to come out.

Allie :: literarilythrilling (literarilythrilling) I just completed re-reading this wonderful novel. I plan on re-reading the second in the next month or two, preparing myself for the third installment.

When I first picked this up, I did not think I was going to like it. But it sucked me in. Hardcore. I thought it was an original storyline with characters that I could like and hate like I'm supposed to.

With this second reading, I did find Katniss to be more annoying than the first time around. Some places (that I of course did not mark so I have no examples) were written as if I were reading Katniss's diary. And maybe that's the effect Collins was going for. If it had been the majority of the story, I would have not finished it. Luckily, there is so much action and "What's gonna happen next", that I found it hard to put down.

If people were going to get obsessed about newer young adult literature, I wish this would be the one they would get enthralled with as opposed to Twilight.

Springtosummer | 3 comments I didn't think I would like it much either, but I seriously couldn't put it down. It was just so intense.

Jodi Johnson I started this book on an 8 hr trip to TN. I could not put it down from the moment I started it. The only young adult novels I have read are the Twilight books, which I enjoyed. This blew that out of the water for me. This novel has made me want to read more young adults novels, but I have no idea what I should start with(any suggestions would be great). For me it seemed that Katniss was so in tune with nature and hunting but was really out of touch with her true feelings. I hope that she develops more in the next book. I look forward to reading the sequel to this novel soon.

We're reading the sequel in July, if you can hold off! And the third comes out in August, yay!

I'm a fan of YA lit but I cannot really think of any off the top of my head that equal this book. A lot of people like John Green's books. I've read two of them and tried to read a third and couldn't finish it. A favorite of most is Looking for Alaska but I found Paper Towns to be much more enjoyable.

I also read Thirteen Reasons Why for a YA lit class I took last fall and found it quite enjoyable. Again, I cannot think of books that are similar to The Hunger Games, but I could probably send some more decent YA lit your way.
