"Sounds good," Alex said as she cocked her second hand gun. She put one in her pocket, the other ready in her hand. "Let's move."
Alex and Angie quickly sneaked across the room and jumped out the window, landing on the roof of the porch below. They slid down and into the forest at a run.
"I do, too," Alex said, climbing over a large tree root, "but it's our only escape. A village is a few miles away from here. We'll have to travel overnight if we want to get there by tomorrow."
"You OK?" Alex asked from above. She grabbed onto a branch and pulled herself into the canopy. She sat on the branch.
Alex looked around. "We head North." She pointed to her right. There was smoke in the distance. The village was in that direction.
"Hopefully," Alex replied. "I guess we'll just have to hope for the best. All I know is that there is a village called Ginara North from here, and we need to get there by tomorrow if we want to survive."
"Great," Angie said but then she saw some movement. "A snake," she whispered. Angie moved slowly to get out her gun. She aimed at it and shot the snake.
Alex quickly grabbed the gun from her hand. The sound of the gunshot had ricocheted throughout the forest."You can't do that now," Alex whispered to her friend furiously. "They'll hear us. And if they hear us, we're doomed. Next time, just ignore the stupid snake."
"I hate them," Angie said. "I got bite by one once. It wasnt nice." She kept on walking. "And give me back my gun."
Alex blindly handed Angie the gun back as she climbed over tree roots and bushes towards the North."Sure, snakes can hurt people, but they're never trying to actually eat you," Alex told Angie. "They're just protecting themselves. That's why if you ignore it, you won't get bitten."
Alex was silent for a moment. "I'm sorry," she said. And she went on through the bushes and trees. She didn't mean to seem rude, but to Alex, there was a past and a future. Angie's parents' deaths were in the past right now, and their future depended on their moving forward. She felt sorry for her friend... but she knew they had to venture on.They came to a large crack in a tree. "What the heck is that?" Alex said.
"I have o clue," Angie said stepping closer to examine it. The hole had ragged edges so it couldnt have been a machine. It looked like it was made by animals.
Alex stuck her arm inside to feel around. Her arm went further and further in, to the point where it was impossible to have her arm held straight out inside because of the width of the tree. It was abnormal."Let's go in," she said. She quickly climbed in, Angie following.
