We're picking titles for the September-November meetings next month. Any suggestions (and discussion/arguments over the selections) go here. There are a few criteria, but none of this is set in stone (Wolf Hall, our August pick, violates pretty much all of the following):

- avaliable in paperback by August, for the sake of those who buy their books.

- not prohibitively long. We want to be able to read the book in a month, easily.

- check the hold list on the catalog at cadl.org. If it has a waiting list a mile long, and is likely to remain very popular for another few months, let's wait on it - those of us who check out our book club books frmot he library want to be able to get it in plenty of time to read it.

If you suggest a book, be prepared to pitch it to everyone at the June meeting so that we can vote or something like it.

All right, the schedule for Sept-Nov looks like this:

9/2: The Enchantress of Florence by Salman Rushdie
10/7: American Gods by Neil Gaiman
11/4: The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot (sorry to push this one to the end, but it still has a hold list at CADL and I'm guessing it will continue to be super popular with an Oprah movie in the works)

Other contenders were:

Fun Home by Alison Bechdel
The History of Love by Nicole Krauss
Soul of a Citizen by Paul Rogat Loeb.
We also discussed the new book Who Fears Death by Nnedi Okorafor, which we might consider for the next round. Thanks, guys!

Angela | 1 comments All excellent choices! I'm coming back, I swear! I've read The Enchantress of Florence and I own American Gods - good reason to read it!
