So what's everyone's book count this year? I'm up to about 22. This is really good with it being only May. I could probably pass my average count of 30/year.

Ashley, that's awesome!I'm at 51, so I've met (and exceeded) my 50-book resolution for 2010. I've updated that to 100 books (most of which I'll probably read this summer).
I'm only at about 20 or so since I've been really busy and also haven't had access to my library. I keep track of my annual book numbers in starting in May, not January, so I could be wrong.
I've read 32 so far this year. Last year I read 67, and I want to reach around that number this year as well.
I don't normally keep track of counts, so I went back to my read lists and counted. I am actually on book 31 right now! That amazes me.
I've finished 25 books. I've made it an unofficial goal to try and get 50 this year ( I didn't start the year with the goal, but when I saw that I was tearing through books, I thought I might as well). I usually read about 30-40 books a year, so I feel like I've stepped up my game a bit.
I think I just finished #33 today. I'll have to check my spreadsheet on my computer for sure though. I read 80 books last year, so I think I'm on about the same pace. We'll see how things go with doing grad school in the summer (I've never done anything time-consuming for more than a few weeks in the summer lol)
I just finished #44 a few minutes ago. Last year, I read 85 books, and my goal for this year is 100, so I'm well on the way!
I've read a lonely seven books this year, but it is now summer and that is where I get the most of my reading done and I have a huge stack of books next to my bed calling my name. How do you all find time to read so much with college? I must say I'm extremely impressed.
To answer your question, Alyssa, this is the first time I'd ever consistently read during college. But I took a bunch of classes within my major that I knew wouldn't be too difficult (nor too easy—they were mostly low on busy work, but research-focused with long papers at the end) my last semester of college. I also didn't go out drinking with friends that much, opting to cook dinner and invite friends over for food and drink at my apartment instead.
I've read 42 books so far this year. Last year I read 108, so I'm a bit behind. I wanted to reach 100 books by the end of the summer, as I'm studying abroad in Switzerland and would prefer to spend my time exploring Europe rather than reading. I'm also currently reading Anna Karenina (817 pages), and it keeps putting me to sleep, so it might be awhile before I hit number 43!

During school, I usually read for an hour or so before I went to bed each night. I almost always had really crazy class schedules, so my reading time was definitely relaxing. I'd also do some reading on the weekends when I didn't have a lot going on. Most of my reading is done on breaks from school. I'll usually read 25-30 books in a summer
I read every night before I go to sleep, and in between homework assignments. It helps me to clear my mind for the next assignment. I also listen to audiobooks when I drive.
Wow. I need to try that. Maybe i'll be able to get some reading done. The problem with me is that I like to start a book and not have to worry about anything else I have to do. I get distracted very easily and go off into my own little world/story.
The year is almost over, how many books have you read so far? I've read 50 books so far this year. My unofficial goal for myself was 52 books (about a book a week) and I'm almost there!
I'm at 43 books this year. Last year I read 46 books so I am most likely going to pass last years count.
I am way off on where I wanted to be! I'd be higher if I included school books, but none of those were ones I would ever have picked up if it hadn't have been for school. I have quite a few that I've started and got pretty far in, so my goal for the first part of Christmas break will be to finish all of those.
I'm at 39 books this year -- Not my highest number, but pretty good nonetheless, since I've had to juggle being a full-time grad student too. I'd like to thank my daily morning and afternoon commutes on the subway -- even if I have schoolwork, I always use that time to read for pleasure :)
I'm at 56 so far in 2010. I start my official counting year in May, not January, so that number is only 43. Christmas break will definitely be a good catch-up time.
I'm at 63 so far this year. I really didn't think I'd get to much more than 50 so I'm pretty pleased with my progress this year with a month left of reading still! It's so nice to see so many other people doing so well too!
I'm at 74 so far according to Goodreads and that's not counting the rereads I've done of both the Hunger Games and Catching Fire before the release of Mockingjay, so it's actually 76. I haven't finished a book all month, I've been so busy with my internship! Just four more weeks till Christmas break :)
I read super slow. I haven't really counted and joined GR this summer so it doesn't have the dates of everything I've read, but I think I'm maybe 20 tops. I've noticed I've definitely started reading more and faster since I joined though, so hopefully next year I can catch up with everyone else. Impressive, guys!
I'm at 96 books so far. My goal for the year is 100, so I'm doing pretty well! This total doesn't count any rereads, or I'd be over 100 already.
I am at 77 with rereads and 69 without. Much more than I thought there would be. I am not too good at putting dates read down, so there may be a few more, that either hit December of 2009 or January 2010. Christmas presents from last year that I didn't count because they may have been December reads.
according to goodreads fancy new stat feature, i've read 123 so far this year. but that also includes things like cookbooks and children books. i've also read a lot of graphic novels this year.
I made it to 31 so far. This is actually really good for me, as I'm a slow reader and school has been insane. my goal was 30 before October, and I'm sad to say I only made it to 29 in October, but like I said that is still pretty good for me. I'm hoping to read even more next year!
Isn't it crazy that we're saying about 30 books so far is not that much? I love how we're being nerdy. Most people probably can't say they've read 5 books this whole year. The numbers everyone here has are amazing!
I just finished my 50th book of the year. I'm hoping to get to 60, and I think I'll be able to do it once Christmas break starts.
I'm at 116 right now. My goal this year was 50, because last year I only got to read 40-something. However I switched jobs early this year and it leaves me with a TON more reading time. Yay!!! I was thinking I might make it to 125, but probably not with the holidays and everything this month.
I think I'm at about twenty five-ish. I don't know for sure though. HOWEVER, that does not include the large amount of reading I've done for classes this year (I'm an English major), which in all honesty would probably double my count. I also have to consider the fact that my whole three months of summer were devoted to Anna Karenina... so during the time that I usually get a large chunk of reading done, I only got to read one book.Daisy's right, though! Think about the number of people out there who probably never picked up a book during 2010. Crazy!
I'm at 62 for the year but its been *mostly* graphic novels. I'll probably make it to 65 but not more than that with the holiday season going on.
Sure it is, but not have reached my goal is what disappoints me. In any case, I hope to achieve the 50 books next year.
I discovered that I was within finishing distance a week or so ago. Then I found myself searching through my shelves and my Nook for anything that was short enough for me to finish in about a day. Then I thought for a moment. I realized that I was just reading whatever could be read quickly, rather than reading what I really wanted to read, which was what I had been looking forward to doing over Christmas break for months. I decided to abandon my goal of reaching 52 on the year. And instead of giving myself a number for 2011, I'm just going to focus on reading the classics. That doesn't mean I won't read anything else, but those are the books I really want to be reading, so that's what I'm going to do.
Absolutely, Lori, I've realized that setting myself a book count target means that I shy away from reading longer or heavier stuff, just because I think I'll spend too long on one book and it'll end up pulling my overall book count down. I have this thousand-page book sitting on my shelf that I've been too terrified to start all year, because earlier in the year I'd thought that I wouldn't be able to make my 50-book goal and that huge brick of a book looks like it'll simply take forever!
That's another good point, R. There were times I shied away from books I genuinely wanted to read because they seemed too long and I didn't want to spend too much time on them. Yet, when I think about my ultimate goal and reason for reading (enrichment of the mind and escape), I realize that I shouldn't allow length to be a factor in my choices.
