On June 8, 1992 the first World Ocean Day is celebrated; coinciding with the Earth Summit held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. To commemorate this event let's read a book that has an ocean animal in the title (whales, dolphins, sharks etc.). (EXAMPLE: Songs of the Humpback Whale)

If you need suggestions OR have suggestions for books to read for this task post them here.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Do ocean animals include fish, or just mammals? Also, how about mythical creatures?

Elizabeth (Alaska) Here is a list of children's books

Cynthia (pandoraphoebesmom) | 1332 comments Fish - Yes. Mythical Creatures - No.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) That's what I thought, but I thought I would ask anyway. Thanks

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 306 comments Does it have to be a type of fish or does the word fish suffice?

Elizabeth (Alaska) Yes, thank you Liz! I remember hearing good things about Ella Minnow Pea and will add that to my list!

I second, Liz, I have had that on my TBR for a while, but had forgotten about it. It is the perfect book for this task. YAY!

Terri (terrisa-uk) | 222 comments I was out shopping today and came across The Raw Shark Texts in the Pound Shop! I picked it up because I liked the play on words, and then thought "wait a minute! A shark lives in the sea!" lol! I'd never heard of it before, but it looks like its had some good reviews so I'm looking forward to reading it! And a huge bargain at £1 for a hardback book!

I think I'm going to do this one too... But I'll have to read Life, the Universe and Everything first...

Liz This might be a stretch, but would this work? "Seal" is in the subtitle. Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10

ColleenPA | 79 comments I think I've decided to read Naked Came the Manatee by Dave Barry, Carl Hiaasen and a host of other South Florida writers. It gets mixed reviews, but I've been looking for an excuse to read it!

No - it's about a shark but doesn't have the word in the title.
