Reading Rainbow discussion

Just wanted to know if any one wanted to do a group reading? If so lets start listing some books to read. :)

Most of the books are so short, I don't know if there's so much to talk about for each one, but maybe going around one of the episode themes - the 4 books that all appeared in the same episode? I'm going to try and list all 151 episodes in the "episode guide" section but so far I've only done 10. We could start with one of those? If we did it that way then we could have the group reading discussion in the comments of the
episode guide section? Just a thought.

I went to the library yesterday and checked out about 10 of the RR books. Of them only 1 is featured in the first 10 episodes - Paul Goble's "The Gift of the Sacred Dog."

Janelle, I mean choosing a novel or memoir to read, not one of the Reading Rainbow books. Do you mind if we do a group reading of that sort?

Personally I'd be up for that, but I know this group hasn't been very active in the past so I'm not sure what others think. I think for this group it may be better to refer to another reading group. But I'm fine with us starting a discussion category "Reading Rainbow for Adults" and see what comes of it.

Any suggestions for the first book? If we wanted we could keep it relative to the RR themes and find an adult book that fits it. For example, the first episode was "Tight Times" so we could do a book that deals with poverty - fiction or non - something like Barbara Emmerich's "Nickel and Dimed" for non-fiction, or something like "Gap Creek" for fiction? Any others come to mind around those themes? I've already read both of those so would be up for something new.

Ashley - I saw this one on your site, it deals with being broke so would be a fit if we went with the "theme" -

Then maybe we could tackle a new one each month based off the next episode in the RR series.

Yeah I've read the Broke Diaries. It is a funny book. Thats fine if you wanna go with themes.

Since you've already read it, are there any other books you'd prefer to read along those lines?

I do think it could be fun - a book about archeology for the dinosaur theme, science fiction for the space one, it'll expose me to a nice variety.

I cant think of any books and I dont think I have any books that deal with being broke. :(

What about the Shopaholic books? They don't deal with being broke but they do deal with over spending-which is kinda the same.

Good call Kathy - I know they turn me off to overspending in the same way. I've read all but one of them - I'd be up for discussing.

I would love to discuss one or more of the RR books in an episode, and I would also like to read Nickled and Dimed.
