Definitely "the Shack", but it would have to have the right actors (I've always thought Ed Harris would be great as the lead). Also, it might sound cheesy, but I could see "Living Oprah" as a cute little movie.
When i read Tatum O'Neal's bio, "A Paper Life", I remember thinking that might be a good biopic -- I envisioned it starting out at the 30 year anniversary/reunion of Paper Moon and with a flashback and then going from there.
The Unpleasant Profession of Jonathan Hoag by Heinlein. I'd liked to see a Nick and Nora chemistry mixed with the thriller moments. IMDb lists this as In Development...Other films with mirror threats: The Broken was not enthralling and, from the synopsis, "Mirrors" intrigues despite its horror/gory label.
House of Stairs. (Read this as a tween and for several years, couldn't remember the name until recently -- thanks Goodreads!) Just reread it and they could really make this into a chilling movie.I think I like science fiction more than I thought I did. I'm kinda surprised they haven't made this into a movie already!
I think some movies should be redone. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest works well as a movie, but Chief Broom's character was rather muted in the movie version. And all of the surreal, psychedelic stuff was completely removed.
I just recently read Ann Petry's The Street and found it to be very visual.

I'm only half-way through but so far, I think "Go Ask Alice" would make for a good movie (minus her "diary-writing"), which I'm finding very hard to believe this is a true diary. (who could possibly write or even feel like writing - as much as she did in that section -- when they're sick???)
I would love to see Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series on film. To do it justice it would have to be a mini-series or, even better, a regular series (a la The Tudors). I think Kevin McKidd would be PERFECT as Jamie.
A Voice in the Wind by Francine Rivers and the rest of the books in the 'Mark of the Lion Trilogy'!We're missing Ancient times-themed movies nowadays in the industry with the sudden bombardment of Young Adult, cliche and supernatural themed movies and this genre definitely needs another epic comeback. This series definitely has it all! Action, Drama, Romance, Suspense, Violence (the right amount, of course) and would be great in the big screens!
@ Shea deadline indicates "Starz has closed a deal to develop Outlander..."I have not read the series myself.
Erik, thanks for the post. I follow Gabaldon on Facebook and she has been posting links as this develops. I am very excited because they are going to do it as a series. I don't have Starz so I will have to wait for it to come out on DVD. I will not get to see my dream Jamie since it will be a series and Kevin McKidd is already busy on Grey's Anatomy. The books were originally published as "romance" but have been moved to the fiction section of book stores. I know a lot of guys who like them since there is plenty of history and fighting. You may want to give them a try.
I'm currently reading The Brothers K by David James Duncan. I could definitely see it as a movie because of the dynamic characters -- every one feels so absolutely real. But the length and attention to detail would leave readers disappointed with the movie version. Nevertheless if I had some cash laying around, that's what I would do. :)
The Sandy Bottom Orchestra. I can't remember the author. I read this book several times through middle school and high school, whenever I got discouraged in my violin playing and needed inspiration. It has well developed characters and a cute, feel-good story. I think it would be a good movie, with a similar feel to Mr. Holland's Opus.
Hope wrote: "A well done movie of 'It' would be nice..."It has been many years since I have seen it but I really enjoyed the TV miniseries they made of "It."

Of course, much of the book had to be left out. I think they made a good choice in focusing on the 1960 and 1990 appearance of It and glossing over the history farther back. I thought it was really well cast between the children and adult actors. I can't remember if I read the book or saw the miniseries first but I remember thinking they had done a good job within the constraints of time and budget.

I just read Eleanor & Park and I think it would be a great movie. It's a very sweet story about first love and all of the feelings that involves.
Cinder would actually be great. It's just awesome, one of those books you read and then read the rest of the series and go back to it and appreciate it even more the second time you read. That was how I felt anyways. And I'd pay a million times to see this movie if they ever made, but they have to pick someone who'd LOOK like Cinder. And not completely screw up her looks like they did to Tris in Divergent
I think Memento Nora by Angie Smibert would make a great movie, especially with the current interest in dystopian novels/movies.
