One of my colleagues let me know that when this book first came out, there were study questions and discussion on the Reach List--before my time! She was kind enough to share the questions she could find in her own archives -- here's Chris Frye's questions on
Rev. Susan Davison Archer's OUTSIDE THE BOX.

DO not feel that you HAVE TO respond to every question, and remember - no one's grading you here!

1.What are some signs in your congregation, ministry or life that something new or different is needed in our approach (or structure) to religious education?

2.In what concrete ways are you and your congregation/ministry stepping "out of the box"? What are you discovering as you do so?

3.In what ways does - or could - your congregation practice shared ministry, "partnerships in living in the world"? How does - or could - it encourage
people of all age to live "lives of commitment"?

4.What are your thoughts about the advantages and disadvantages of advocating for paid, professional youth advisor positions?

5. If you had to describe Unitarian Universalism in three words (like Wilbur did for Unitarianism some time ago), which three words would they be?

Any "how to" education about praying/meditating for my children has come from me, so at our church, this hasn't changed from when I was a UU child and got my prayer education from the "Little House" books and an adult who snuck back to my room during a party of my parents and instructed me to say, "Jesus, please clear all of my sins," every night. (ugh)

2. 100% multigenerational worship services. Did rotational/inter-age model RE for a couple of years. Love the first. Hard to say on the second. Ours got watered down, due to having a small group of students. Would still love to see it done in a large congregation.

3. More focus on missional church practices and vision.

4. I'd like to start with a paid DRE. But I'm all for it, with the proviso that it be a *UU*. Seems like once money is involved, we prioritize professional experience over religion.

5. Reason. Freedom. Love.
