Let us know who you are! What do you like to read and what's your favorite library?

Jennifer | 371 comments Mod
I'm the assistant manager at the Whitmore Library, and I read just about anything I can get my hands on. I'm here to talk about books and library stuff, and to get some good reading suggestions.

Staff Favorites | 2 comments Mod
Books posted by "Staff Favorites" will be taken from titles submitted by the Salt Lake County Library staff each month. These are books that have been read and enjoyed by various staff members.

message 4: by Danette (new)

Danette | 14 comments I am the manager at the Draper Library and I like to read just about anything--but I don't have time to read everything I would like to. I especially like mysteries, suspense, and thrillers. There has to be a great plot and likable characters to make me keep reading. I also have a secret crush on Stone Barrington.

message 5: by Jan (new)

Jan (libraryhag) | 64 comments I am the manager of the Hunter Library. I love paranormal books of just about any genre, mystery, romance, historical. I also love cozy mysteries and the occasional thriller.I also love books about the Tudor dynasty, fiction or nonfiction.

message 6: by Kira (new)

Kira (kiramoody) | 17 comments I am a Youth Services Librarian at Hunter Library. I love mostly fantasy and paranormal, but will read anything. I love Stephanie Plum books, funny mysteries, and anything that will keep me thinking.

message 7: by Art (new)

Art (langutah) | 1 comments Hi, I'm Art. And I like to read. Alot! But I don't read what most people read so I have to work hard to find good book recommends - mostly from people I have learned have very similar tastes. Both of them :)

message 8: by Allison (new)

Allison (bookgirlut) | 30 comments I am a Youth Services Librarian at the South Jordan Library. I also work with the teens there. I really enjoy books with lots of character development and conflict. I like all genres and try to fit in a variety as I read. As would be expected, I read mostly kids and teen stuff, but try to fit in the occasional "grown-up" novel too.

message 9: by Patricia (new)

Patricia | 15 comments I am a senior librarian for young adult services in the S.L. Co. Library system and I also do all the teen stuff at Whitmore Library. Since I post a monthly webpage for newer teen fiction and teen graphic novels, and I like to read everything I put on those pages, that's about all the reading that I manage to do! I prefer fantasy (particularly "dark fantasy") and keep an eye out for great books for children and adults, too, as I seem to be the librarian for all my children and grandchildren, too!

message 10: by Ruby (new)

Ruby (rcheezy48) | 35 comments I'm the library manager of the Bingham Creek Library. I love to read all sorts of genres: mystery, legal thrillers, suspense, and LDS fiction are some of my favorites. Since I'm originally from Georgia, I also love good Southern fiction. I really enjoy emailing authors of books I have especially liked. They love it!

message 11: by Tina (last edited Jun 14, 2010 01:22PM) (new)

Tina B (readinghonor) | 32 comments I'm the youth services librarian at Herriman Library. My favorite genres are science fiction and fantasy, but I will read anything with a strong character focus. I read a lot of picture books for both work and kids at home.

message 12: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie | 40 comments I'm a YS librarian at Bingham Creek Library. I read anything that looks interesting, especially sci-fi (and sci-non-fi) and mysteries. I read a ton of picture books, since that's the collection I'm in charge of, and love reading the selections for our Great Reads for Girls book group.

message 13: by Leslie (new)

Leslie I'm the manager at Herriman Library. I read all sorts of things, and I'm always looking for good suggestions.

message 14: by Cherie (new)

Cherie | 3 comments I'm a Public Services Librarian at Bingham Creek Library. I read a lot of Science Fiction and Fantasy plus anything that makes me laugh.

message 15: by S. (new)

S. | 1 comments I'm a librarian who visits many of the county libraries. I like fantasy and the old fashioned classics. I have taken a serious detour into nonfiction books, and perhaps it will do me some good.

message 16: by Holly (new)

Holly | 309 comments Mod
I'm a public services librarian at the South Jordan Library. Right now, I'm into historical fiction about artists, writers and musicians, probably because there have been so many good books about those subjects lately.

message 17: by Trish (new)

Trish Hull (trishull) | 4 comments I am Trish and the manager at Magna library. I read just about anything except horror and westerns. (Wizard of OZ scariest movie of all time)
I will probably be ostracized for this but I did not like Twilight. I think Bella is whiny.

message 18: by Jan (new)

Jan (libraryhag) | 64 comments Don't worry Trish. I did not like Twilight either. Real vampires do NOT sparkle!!!

alisonwonderland (Alison) | 70 comments I'm a patron of the Draper Library and a big fan of GoodReads. I just discovered this group today. I love to read a wide variety of genres, especially historical fiction, young adult, mystery/suspense, and memoirs.

Those are the Stuart Woods books right? I always imagined he would be very handsome... ;)

And we all know they can't go out in daylight. Duh.

message 22: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Wehunt | 8 comments Oh, I guess I should introduce myself since I'm commenting. :D I'm Melissa and I'm the new YS Librarian at West Valley Library. Really, all the stuff I'm doing is w/ teens. It's been super fun and I'm totally <3ing it. So of course, I read tons of YF, but my life just would not be complete without the Romance. That's right, I admit it! I'm a romance junkie..especially if its paranormal. My next fav is Urban Fantasy / Paranormal Fiction, etc.

Read anything good lately. Love to hear from the patrons.

alisonwonderland (Alison) | 70 comments Jan wrote: "Read anything good lately. Love to hear from the patrons."

I'm currently reading Shanghai Girls and I Capture the Castle, both of which I'm enjoying. As far as YA goes, my 14yo daughter has to read The Declaration as part of her summer reading for freshman language arts, and I read the first fourteen pages last night; it's very intriguing. A recent YA read that I loved was A Northern Light.

Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 776 comments I totally jumped right in without introducing myself! Silly me.

We mostly go to the Herriman library (looking forward to the new one being done!!) but I volunteered at Bingham Creek as a teenager and the Tyler library in Midvale used to be "ours". We still make the trip over there sometimes so my oldest can read to the dogs. (Would love it if more locations had that program!)

I have a book blog and read pretty much anything. Except Twilight lol.

message 26: by Micah (new)

Micah | 16 comments I am feeling very jealous of all you librarians. I always thought that would be such a great job. Especially in the SL County system: it's huge! Do you get to buy all the books? My dream job! Sadly, I was practical and went to nursing school. I bike my 2 year old to the Whitmore Library once a week. We've read almost all the children's books on trains. I love travel books, cook books, good essayists, Alexander McCall Smith.....how long can this list be?

message 27: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 371 comments Mod
Glad to have you Micah! Being a librarian is an awesome job, and buying all the books is definitely one of my favorite parts. I'll see if I can find some new train books for you. :-)

Vicki (dragonshelver) | 36 comments Hi, I'm a Customer Service Specialist at Magna Library, where I have been for almost 15 years! I love to read and I don't go anyplace without a book! My favs are usually SciFi/Fantasy, but I will read Mysteries once in a while and I also enjoy LDS fiction! Right now I am thoroughly enjoying The Sapphire Flute by Karen Hoover!

Hi Vicki -- I hadn't heard of The Sapphire Flute. Now, I'm on the waiting list. Thanks!!

message 30: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (dragonshelver) | 36 comments I loved it!! A truly unique new fantasy that I am sure you will enjoy!

message 31: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (dragonshelver) | 36 comments Tina,
When I was doing the holds yesterday morning, Sapphire Flute was on it. When I checked it in, it was coming to you! How ironic! I knew it was yours when I saw it on the list, and I was right!! I just thought that was kind of funny, that I had just read your note! Have fun reading it!

message 32: by Natasha (new)

Natasha Maw (mawbooks) | 8 comments Hey everybody. I'm an avid reader and a frequent patron at the West Jordan and South Jordan libraries. I love all of you librarians!

I'm an active member of the book blogosphere at http://blog.mawbooks.com where I write book reviews for anything I read (which is just about anything) and even had the opportunity to attend Book Expo America the past two years for sneak peaks at upcoming titles.

Glad to be here!

Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 776 comments *Waving* Hi Natasha!!

message 36: by Gofita (new)

Gofita | 7 comments Just found this group a couple of weeks ago! I'm a patron of the Riverton library, though I actually reside in Eagle Mountain of Utah County. But I love SLC's library system so that's why I come.

Love reading all types of books!

message 37: by Cathy (new)

Cathy Marie Buchanan (cathymbuchanan) Hi all. I am Cathy Marie Buchanan, author of The Day the Falls Stood Still, which I was thrilled to learn is part of the Salt Lake County Reader's Choice for July-October 2010. I hope some of you will read it (and vote for it!). Learn more at http://cathymariebuchanan.com/.

message 38: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Hi, I'm Lisa and I go to the Herriman library (so sad it's closed right now!) but have been getting mostly ebooks lately. Used to work for a company that converted card catalogs so I know all about MARC and RLIN and all the different tags and fun stuff like that. I love to read mostly women's fiction, people like Kristin Hannah, Jodi Picoult, Barbara Delinsky and Luanne Rice.

message 39: by Mica Humes (new)

Mica Humes Hi, I'm Mica and I just moved to Daybreak so I mostly go to the South Jordan and Riverton libraries. I'm strangely attracted to tragic childhood memoirs and would love and recommendations. I also enjoy non-fiction. I've never been big into fiction books, but just read The Hunger Games trilogy and really enjoyed it so I think I need to start branching out of my comfort zone. I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you!

message 40: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm Mason, from Sandy. I'm a big fan of reading. I really love Dan Brown and James Patterson, but the list doesn't stop there. My favorite book is The Jester by James Patterson, but Robert Langdon novels are close behind. I particularly like the gruesome stories, so naturally I'm a big Poe fan. I also really enjoyed Twilight, The Hunger Games, and A Million Little Pieces.

message 41: by Carrie (new)

Carrie | 1 comments Hi, I'm Carrie, & I'm addicted to bo..ok..s...oh, wait, wrong forum. I'm a CSS at Draper, love to read, love to discuss good books with people who are open to others' opinions. I'm sorry I didn't find this group earlier! Need to put the books down & get online once in a while...:)

message 42: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Jeffery | 1 comments Hi, I'm Lorraine Jeffery, manager of the Tyler Library in Midvale. I read just about everything, with the exception of horror. I particularly like suspense, mysteries (all kinds) and thrillers. I like a book that is different -- maybe not what I expect. I love in-depth character books that make the reader think. Don't give me answers, give me questions. :)

Congratulations, Jamie! We were excited to hear you got the job. Teen fiction is a lot of fun, but don't worry about Twilight. It's on it's way out anyway, thank goodness!

Stacy (nocturnal_owlette) | 0 comments Hi I'm Stacy. And I like to read fiction, and well I like the Salt Lake County Library

message 45: by Angie (new)

Angie | 2 comments Yo! I am a Customer Service Specialist at Herriman Library and I usually enjoy reading fantasy and time travel, but right now I am in an "End of World/Apocalyptic" phase. I am really excited to be a part of this group.

message 46: by Lorna (new)

Lorna Payne | 4 comments I'm a CSS at Whitmore; I'm trying to get my MLIS, but Life keeps interfering. I read basically anything and everything. I especially like history (especially unsolved historical mysteries), Classic British mysteries, SF&F, and JPs and JFs.

I'm especially addicted to David Stuart and I am compelled to Find Fergus in as many of his books as I can.

message 47: by Wendy (new)

Wendy | 2 comments Hello, I'm Wendy Avila. My favorite library is Draper...just love all of the chicken sculptures and cool architecture. I also go to the Tyler Library in Midvale while my kids have karate lessons nearby. They have a great Spanish collection. I'm the moderator of a goodreads group called "The LDS Reader". We read one doctrinal book and one fiction book (LDS authors/Whitney award nominees/winners) each month. We'd love to have you join our group! Check us out :)!!

Courtney | 1 comments On the Fringe
Hi! I'm Courtney King Walker - I live in Sandy, Utah and I usually go to Whitmore or Sandy Library, though I think my favorite is Sandy. I love reading almost everything— from Young Adult to contemporary to classics. I am also a new author with a teen/YA book coming out October 2011 called On the Fringe. It is a clean, paranormal ghost story/romance that I'd love for you to check out. I'm excited to be a part of this group!

It looks like it is going to be amazing. I love reading and will read just about anything that gets a few good reviews! I am also an author and I just found out that my book "Songbird" is now at the library!! So sweet!! I'm excited to be in this group.
