Jennifer (texasaggieteacher) | 70 comments I Liked the allegory he had going and the symbolism in it. It was the first book I read where I got a great picture of the fight that God has with Satan over us as believers. And, it made the devil more real to me. Amazing how he knows our weaknesses and what areas to test us in to see where we will fail and become his victims.

Paula Hagen This was an amazing book! My eyes were really opened to the spiritual warfare that is constantly going on around us. I loved the ending. God prevailed over the devil!

Jennifer (texasaggieteacher) | 70 comments Hahaha..yeah that was a great part in the book.

Mere Christianity will take you a while to get through. His non-fiction books are ones you kinda have to let sink in and stop reading for a bit to grasp everything, but that's how he writes! It's an amazing book.

Elizabeth | 20 comments Yikes. I found myself too often secretly hidden in the masterfully written words of CS Lewis. What I found interesting (and granted I'm only half way through the book at this point) was how simple Screwtape makes it all sound. It troubles me that we seem to make it so easy although I'm sure we do.

If you enjoyed this approach, I want to recommend Tosca Lee's Demon: A Memoir. It was her first book and plays along the same theme. Great.

I agree. I think we are so consumed with ourselves and what other thinks about appearances and whatnot that we forget about the spiritual warfare that is really happening. Or, we think spiritual warfare is a thing of the past. It's real and evident and satan is crafty. Heck, he even knows scripture. C.S. Lewis is just really good at making you stop and think about things. Almost gives you a mirror to look at yourself and examine your heart with.

Lani (lani14) | 5 comments Sorry to be so late to this discussion. I love this book. What really suprised me was how CS Lewis shows us how much Satan really hates us. And Lewis shows us there is a hell for those who want believe differently. This book and Mere Christianity were the first two books I read after I became a Christian and they opened eyes to the world as it really is.

I agree! Both are great books.

Teric Darken (tericdarken) | 144 comments The Screwtape Letters: Uncle Screwtape, Nephew Wormwood, God - The Enemy... simply brilliant! The first work of Christian-oriented fiction that I'd ever read. C.S. Lewis, in my eyes, is the godfather of Christian fiction.
