25.1 - Valorie's Task - Independence Day
For part A, does the character who is "retired" from the military have to be someone who is technically "retired" (put in 20 years or so, and retired), or does a veteran work (someone who served in the military, but didn't make a career of it)?
Thanks!
Thanks!
I highly recommend All Quiet on the Western Front if you have not read it.I am thinking I am going to re-read A Farewell to Arms or For Whom the Bell Tolls. I just love Hemingway.
These work right...I feel like an idiot for asking that. :)
Some colored covers from my tbr (let me know if you agree Valorie since they are not all solid like your example was):
Are you asking for a book on Amercans in the military? I have a book on my TBR, The Bamboo People by Mitali Perkins about young soldiers in Burma? Would this work?
Tagging onto Karen's question, should it be real military or can it be military science fiction or fantasy? I'm presuming that historical real military - Civil War, Napoleonic Wars is OK, what about those?
What about one of the books from David Baldacci about the Camel Club? I believe "Oliver Stone" is ex-military.
A few I'm considering for part A: Please let me know if any of these will not work.Cold Mountain
Matterhorn: A Novel of the Vietnam War
Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10
Persuasion
Empire of the Sun
I also wondered if this cover would count for white:[image error]
This is the UK copy and it is the one I own. I just started it and was going to push to finish it before the 1st because I hadn't found a place for it yet, but it's even about different color worlds, so let me know if it will fit.
Thanks for the fun task!
Will The Hunt for Red October by Tom Clancy work for military? And, will
work for a white cover?Thanks!
Lulu wrote: "What about one of the books from David Baldacci about the Camel Club? I believe "Oliver Stone" is ex-military.""Stone" was CIA -- another member Reuben Rhodes is a West Point grad and Vietnam vet.
For all of you thriller fans, Jack Reacher of the Lee Child's books is former military police & the new book 61 Hours is out!
From my husband's library, Tug of War. I'm absolutely certain this isn't something I would have picked up, but it's a little over 200 pages and I might learn something. For the color, Dream When You're Feeling Blue. Note that the Berg book would also work in the Wedding task because it has BLUE in the title.

Here's some covers I pulled from my gr lists. I obviously do not have enough to do in my spare time.
I feel like I have more solidly-blue covers than I do red or white...maybe I'll post those later.
(I loved your idea, Cait, which is why I did mine ^_^; )
White: I think these work, but was unsure about some of the colors on some of them, & some of them may have too much of a gray look?

Cait & Ms Anderson, I'm right there with you. I think I'm kind of OCD when it comes to all the lines of bookcovers. They look so pretty with their matching colors! ;)
Would The Three Musketeers work for part A? The three Musketeers are part of an elite group of soldiers sworn to protect the king. Thats military enough right?
and will this work for blue?
I just picked it up at the library, and wondered if I could use it here.

For A, I plan on rereading The Lords of Discipline. Great book! I haven't read it since high school :)
