Are you Protestant? (Probably not the kind of question you meant, but I'm wondering :D)

The Catholics have added man-written stuff to the Bible and called it sacred, and they worship Mary. Protestants don't believe in rosaries or the do-good-works-and-you'll-get-to-heaven stuff. Mormons follow a Book of Mormon(ism?) as well as the Bible, and all three have completely different beliefs of salvation. Well there's your summary.

The Book Of Mormon is our foundation.
Well Catholics do not worship Mary. We honor her as the Mother of God. Jesus is God made flesh and she was His mother. The rosary is a tool to help meditate on scripture. As for adding man-written stuff to the Bible you might want to do a little history. The current Catholic Bible was established during the counsel of Nicea about 300 years after the Crusifiction. This was based on the Jewish Sacred Books of the Old Testiment outside of Jerusalam. And stories that were written to become Canon (held to be true). This was held to be true until the Protestant Reformation. This is a brief history lesson that you may want to look into. I am not in to telling people they are wrong in thier faith but I had to figure out why so many Christians believe differently on the teachings of Christ and his Disciples. I became a Catholic about 6 years ago and will never look back.Be strong with your sheid faith but do it with the belt of truth.

I know, didn't I kinda say that? Or do you mean the Bible has less authority?

Rosaries are not even mentioned in the Bible - they were thought up by humans.
It doesn't matter where the catholic Bible came from. It was added to the true Bible and is now treated as part of the Bible. The original Bible was inspired by the Holy Spirit (aka God if you don't believe in the trinity), and the men who wrote it down were mere vessels - resulting in: the Bible is the word of God.
"The current Catholic Bible was established during the counsel of Nicea about 300 years after the Crusifiction. This was based on the Jewish Sacred Books of the Old Testiment outside of Jerusalam." Sorry; what do you mean? Where did it originate?
The New Testiment was not even completely written until 100AD. Then it was not even compiled until 330AD.http://www.catholicbasictraining.com/...

Read he to start you off. If I was back in the States I would have books to recommend. I grew up Protestant and studied my way into Catholism through history. If you were not born Catholic but Christian I call you brother or sister. I know God will speak to you and take you where He want you to go in His time not mine or yours. I will pass on the knowledge that I know but I will also refer to what I hold true when someone speaks on what they don't know. Ignorance is not stupidity and if I don't know something I am man enough to say so. If I speak falsely and corrected then I will learn from my mistakes.
This is my favorite subject to discuss and will do so calmly. I have been yelled just today on just such things. I will keep it civil and ask the same from all you are here.

Well… okay… you kinda lost me. Let's just discuss what really matters: salvation. According to Catholicism, how do you "get into" (so to speak) heaven?

I have studied both Baptist and Mormons. I did not make my dicision lightly."Not 100 people in the United States hate the Catholic Church. They hate what they believe about the Catholic Church." -Fulton Sheen

You may want to reseach the history of the Rapture Theory. Did not come about until the 15th or 16th Century. I read the Left Behind books and loved them but they were also one reason that lead my path to Catholism.
Read the King James Bible origanlly written in hebrew but then translated into english about 2,000 years ago so any questions you may have can be answered by reading it
because i guess she chose to be catholic
Because of the books I started looking into the truth of the rapture. Many suppose expers could not agree on anything and not all Christian communities believed in it. So I went on a quest for truth. That is when I started studying the history of the Church. Fasinating what we all think we know. At the same time my wife was doing research on theology and neither one of us talked about it until the week before I went back to Iraq. We both had planned on taking Catholic classes while I was deployed and that year we decided to become Catholic.A great Pro-Life story of a family that converted to Catholic are the Hahns. Scott and Kimberly Hahn.
If I was at home I would have a lot more references to help with this. But as it was explained to me once after my conversion: those after the reformation that were born in a Christian faith other then Catholism are brothers of the faith. However, if you are born in the Catholic faith and decide to leave the Church you are a heratic. Now as a friend of mine that grew up in the Baptist community put it after he join the "Church of Christ" that during the Transfiguration God built the Church on Jesus Christ. From what he told me the Baptist Church was based on John the Baptist. But like I said without my resources at home I cannot discuss this as well as I would like.
Did not think so but without the books I have I could not be sure to argue. I say what I do know or ask about what I don't. When it comes to what others tell me I believe none of what I hear and half of what I see. Not really to that degree but it tells me to not be nieve or gullible.
First of all, we do not worship Mary, we honour her. She is the Mother of God and she chose to be the Mother of God of her own free will; why shouldn't we honour her.Saint Elizabeth called her blessed twice within four consecutive verses
During those days Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth.
When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, "Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy.
Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled."
And Mary said: "My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;
my spirit rejoices in God my saviour.
For he has looked upon his handmaid's lowliness; behold, from now on, will all ages call me blessed.
The Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name.
His mercy is from age to age to those who fear him.
He has shown might with his arm, dispersed the arrogant of mind and heart.
He has thrown down the rulers from their thrones but lifted up the lowly.
The hungry he has filled with good things; the rich he has sent away empty.
He has helped Israel his servant, remembering his mercy, according to his promise to our fathers, to Abraham and to his descendants forever."
Luke 1:39-55 RSV CE
The first part of the Hail Mary comes straight from the Bible:
In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin's name was Mary.
And coming to her, he said, "Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you."
But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.
Luke 1:26-29
When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, "Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
Luke 1:43-42
The Church Fathers as well as the Protestant Reformers all honoured Mary as well.
When we pray the Rosary, we meditate on the mysteries of our faith.
On the Canon of Scripture, you have to read the history of the Jewish Canon as well. Also, look up the Dead Sea Scrolls. We take our canon from the Greek Scriptures. The reason some Jews didn't have the Septuagint and why the Protestant Reformers threw them out is because they didn't think Hebrew translations existed, so they didn't think they were inspired. However, those seven books that Catholics still have, were recently found in Hebrew in the Dead Sea Scrolls and date to before the time of Christ. The Canon of Scripture was first determined during Synods near the end of the 4th century about 200 years after John the Evangelist, the last of the Apostles. Since the Old Testament was still contested in the 8th century the Second Council of Nicaea confirmed them as did the Council of Florence in 1335 and the Council of Trent in 1545. After the Council of Trent, the Canon of Scripture was officially closed to anymore debate.
Also, the Sign of the Cross:
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
The bible has far existed beyond the time of christianity & many other religions, the original truethful verson is the king James Version, everything else is just well no offince, but a counterfit a fake an illusion.
HAHAHAHAHAHAPlease don't tell me you really believe that. I am sorry but that is so fool hearty and pathetic. I cannot just leave that one alone.
As I have said before I am not trying to tell you that you are wrong in your worship practice but I will have to tell you when there is no truth in what is said.
Well I even ask my self and other christains many things that seem like a contrdiction in the texts but if it is written then it must have a purpose no offince Mr./Ms. Etshadow
Let me apoligise. My day has been rough and I lashed out at something I found funny at the time. I have recently been looking up the different translations of the Bible and explination on how they came about. I wish I could remember the website. But since it was not this computer I do not have the history in my browser.I really don't mean to be offensive it just came out at the wrong time for the wrong reason.
Please forgive me.
it's ok we are all are intitled to or own off days like the days that are just not floating your way its ok no need to apologiez I don't take offince ever on religion my mom does I don't I mean whats got every one all jumpy about it?

Okay we honor her to in the Baptist church but we do not have a Hail Mary when she should not be higher than Jesus which Catholics sometimes do.

Who's foolhardy and pathetic King James Version is the Hebrew Bible in English it is not different and Catholics are the ones who add to the Bible like 50%.
You know, maybe ridiculing other people's religions isn';t the way to go about anything. Wasn't this designed to be a merely informative topic? I'm technically a Christian (I HAVE been to church and consider myself mainly a christian) But I also believe in Paganism and Wicca and a variety of other things.
For this reason I also like to think that every myth and legend has its base in reality; no myth/legend is entirely right but nor is it entirely wrong, and the same goes for religions-every perosn has their own specific set of beliefs.
Maybe I am only doing it to defend my religon and the Bible *coughs* Etshadow. And you're only a Christian if you ask Jesus to take away all your sins and let Him into your heart. Not by good works or just considering yourself one.
I have before, but I'm not exactly entirely Christian, either; I never said I was. I believe in God and Jesus both.
Etshadow wrote: "Use to think that as well. But the truth came to me and it will not let go."And what is the truth?
