Lindsay Diggs (lindsay430) What did everyone think of Gone?
I don't think it was ever formally discussed

Dija This will have spoilers, obvs, so don't read if you haven't finished the book.

I dunno, I'm torn between given this book a 1 and a 5 star rating. I've given it the latter for now, but that could change upon more speculation. Just the fact that I'm indecisive over its rating should be enough of a sign that it wasn't as good as I was expecting. Sure, it tied up all loose ends, but that was done rather poorly and it was way too prolonged when it could have been summed up in at least half the book.

Cabel was a sweetheart and Janie's misgivings were understandable. But there was something missing...this book was rather monotone-ish. Emotionless and colorless. And even in the end, it didn't feel like things were resolved. It seemed like Cabel and Janie were back to the couple they were at the beginning of the book, with no in-between.

So enough of the negatives, what I loved about this book was how lyrical and psychological it was. I'm referring to the extremely short sentences...they sounded rather poetic and added to the atmosphere of the book. Plus there was a fair amount of Captain-scenes in this book, and I adore the woman, so I wasn't as upset by this book as others.

Okay, so I just convinced myself to give this book a 3 star rating. That saddens me since I loved the other two books so much, but whatever, I'm not the author.

Lindsay Diggs (lindsay430) YES! I agree with you so much.
I can't really put my finger one it, but something about this book just bugged me. first of all, I loved Fade. After thinking it over it's definitely my favorite. I am so Pro JaniexCabel and that book focused a lot on their relationship, which I loved. The constant fighting/making up was just great to read. With this...I don't know. They just seemed so different in this one. I can't decide what it was, but they just didn't seem as into each other as they did before. And honestly, I understand the whole thing with her dad and how that was the premise of the whole book, but I felt bored at those parts for the most part. I loved Miss Stuben (as usual. i imagine her as Betty White) but I was disappointed with the absence of Captain. She really wasn't in it very much, and I loved her. Plus, I couldn't stand the random slang and made up words. Like (i don't have my book with me so I can't use direct examples) when Janie and Carrie are talking to each other and even janie and Cabel sometimes they say things like we're supposed to already know what they mean. That bugged me a lot. Plus, I hate that it's the last book. There's so much more that could happen. College+Being forced into people's dreams=interesting book. But too late for that

I just had such high hopes for this book and I mean it was good, but I can't say I wasn't disappointed.

Dija Fade is definitely my favorite book as well. I loved the plot and the dialogue was awesome. In short, I felt satisfied with the book, and that's really rare coming from me.

And I so agree with you; the parts with Janie's father were boring for me as well. Things got really slow whenever he was mentioned. The book started out great, with Janie and Cabel all lovey-dovey and the sudden suspense with Janie's friend's engagement and Janie's mom's past and all that, but these events weren't used to their full potential, plot-wise. The book was extremely slow-paced and by the time it finished, I was actually glad. That never says a good thing about a series' ending. *sigh*

Dija Oh, wow, that's definitely news for me. Bad news, that is. Like the whole series wasn't already ruined by Gone, we now have a movie coming out as well? =_= But hey, if they decide to play around with the ending a little, I might just watch it. :3
