At the local library branch, the librarians all know me by name. I walk in the door and they gather up the stack of books I've put on hold.

My "to-read" list is growing like a bad weed. I blame all of you. *shakes fist*

Yay, Cloud Atlas. Not just clever, brilliant and beautiful too. David Mitchell has too much talent!

Over the weekend I went to the Altrusa Club's annual Labor Day used book sale in Columbus, GA (used book feeding frenzy) and came away with a sack full, including some Octavia Butler hardbacks, Anya Seton's Green Darkness, Cold Mountain, Middlesex, George R. R. Martin's Dying of the Light, Margaret Frazer's A Play of Isaac, and some Simon Green paperbacks.

Just the title of The Muse in the Machine has me drooling.

I can see I'm going to have to stop reading stuff on this site until I get to somewhere with a public library.

Are you going to get to live near a public library soon, Anna? If not, I'd be glad to send you a care package periodically. (Have you moved since the last white elephant exchange?)

I've been drooling over other people's lists and just barely started adding to my list. I'm afraid my to-read list is going to be even longer than it already was. Need to consolidate my amazon wish list into this (I don't actually use it as a wish list and I hate the thought of multiple lists).

I've been reading a lot less lately (and watching more movies). I think that's about to change.

I happened to wander past a book sale at my school library today (I swear, I didn't know about it!) and spent my (dad's) coffee change on:

Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver

and

Jedi Search by...um, Kevin J. Anderson (shut up, I'm a Star Wars geek. XP)

Has anyone read Kingsolver's book? I loved her Poisonwood Bible and I'm hoping this is just as good. I had to pass up an Amy Tan book to get it, so it better be good. XD

My MountToBeRead is tottering at about 140 volumes (I need to double check my imported info here against my LJ list), my Library ToRead list is literally as long as my arm and I just today went delving into the Indianapolis-Marion County Library online catalog to see what goodies I could ILL. (a good chunk of my Non-Library ToRead list).

And now I'm using this site to feed my addiction.... :eek:!

Eleanor, I'm interested in what you think of Dying of the Light. I've started it three times and it always puts me to sleep after a few pages. I'm afraid to finish it -- I've loved everything Martin's done -- what if I don't like this one?

I bought some Octavia Butler too -- the two Parable books and Kindred. You guys are quite the enablers.

Ok, I'll let you know. My first Martin was the enthralling Fevre Dream, on your recommendation, I think, and because I'm on a vampire kick these days. The only other things I've read by him are the Ice & Fire books and Tuf Voyaging.

Eleanor, I'm glad you liked Fevre Dream. I'd love to see more books with those characters, but Martin seems busy with other things these days.

You might also like Armageddon Rag -- rock 'n roll and demons. The tone is different from his other books -- it's kinda raucous, but I guess it should be, considering the subject. I've read it twice and it's given me good scares both times.
