Faith Quick i can't help it! i do judge books by their covers! now granted i do have others things that brings me to a books first chapter. BUT...i have to admit i have picked a good 80% of my books by their cover. i love texture! this book jumped out at me! it said earthy, history, mystery, fun, rich, and intriguing. plus i LOVE trilogy's. i hate leaving my characters after only one book. i ALWAYS want to know more.
AND don't think i don't get the analogy for the saying. i realize it is talking more about people than books. that what is on the outside is not necessary on the inside.
BUT i must reiterate i do judge books by their cover. i try not to but i do!

Meh I do too. I usually try to catalogue what kind of audience the book is pandering to with its cover, and from there what kind of book it is. For instance, if there's a ridiculously buff guy with a sword fighting demons, with a half-naked girl in the background, it's probably just teen fantasy trash that's not worth my time. However, I have been wrong before. Robin Hobb's excellent Farseer trilogy has terrible covers and titles. (Royal Assassin has a picture of a shirtless buff guy with a sword and a wolf. Doesn't look too promising.)

Faith Quick i know what you mean! i wish i didn't judge books by their covers cuz every once in awhile i find a really great book and i look back at previous covers and realize i never would have picked it up. makes me feel a wee bit lame. bthe inside is just as good no matter the cover and i know i am missing a lot of good books because i just don't pick them up. so that is another reason why i love goodreads! it introduces me to so many books i wouldn't have thought of before!

Joshua that's the only way i get books. does the back cover count? if it doesnt have tht im definatley not gnna get the book

Rachel Alice I always judge a book by its cover, terrible I know.

MizziQ You pick it up from seeing the cover but that doesn't neccesarily mean you judge it by the cover. Pick it up by cover, judge by words. Although I have to say, AWESOME cover!

Rachel Alice Yeah, I don't love the book because of the cover, I just bought it because of that (mostly, I did read the back and everything). I've had several books with beautiful covers that I absolutely hated.

The Time Thief also has a pretty cool cover: The Time Thief (The Gideon Trilogy Book Two) by Linda Buckley-Archer . If you look closely, you can see through the Tar Man.

MizziQ I had listened to the 2nd one but not read so I hadn't even seen the cover. I like it even better than the 1st one. lol :)

Janeen-san I bought that book and I deeply regret it!! It was really expensive and I bought it just because of the cover but the story is horrible in my opinion... =(
I gave it away to my friend but HE didn't like it EITHER :P

MizziQ What didn't you like about it? I know there are some things that I would have changed. But in general?

Kezia Santoso Count me in?
I know it's wrong but I can't help it xD

Natalie Im in with all of you. If the cover is cheesy, who's gonna read it? the cover can tell half the story sometimes. Good cover-most likely a good book. Bad cover-sometimes a good book

MizziQ I probably read the first chapter 5 times before I ACTUALLY read it. :)

Ur not the only one..i used to do that too...quite a lot actually and i still do, but sometimes flipping through and reading the bck changes my mind a bit

Tina I do look at the cover, but then I flip to the back. Some covers have turned me off though. I did read this book and liked it. I decided to read it despite the cover.

Smhmk97 same

Samah I totally judge books by the cover. Mostly what the font type is, but anyways I really liked this book despite the cover. And the font thing works. If its a pretty font that I know, Ill pick up the book and 9/10 it good :)
