anyone else judge a book by it's cover?

I do too. I usually try to catalogue what kind of audience the book is pandering to with its cover, and from there what kind of book it is. For instance, if there's a ridiculously buff guy with a sword fighting demons, with a half-naked girl in the background, it's probably just teen fantasy trash that's not worth my time. However, I have been wrong before. Robin Hobb's excellent Farseer trilogy has terrible covers and titles. (Royal Assassin has a picture of a shirtless buff guy with a sword and a wolf. Doesn't look too promising.)
i know what you mean! i wish i didn't judge books by their covers cuz every once in awhile i find a really great book and i look back at previous covers and realize i never would have picked it up. makes me feel a wee bit lame. bthe inside is just as good no matter the cover and i know i am missing a lot of good books because i just don't pick them up. so that is another reason why i love goodreads! it introduces me to so many books i wouldn't have thought of before!
that's the only way i get books. does the back cover count? if it doesnt have tht im definatley not gnna get the book
You pick it up from seeing the cover but that doesn't neccesarily mean you judge it by the cover. Pick it up by cover, judge by words. Although I have to say, AWESOME cover!
Yeah, I don't love the book because of the cover, I just bought it because of that (mostly, I did read the back and everything). I've had several books with beautiful covers that I absolutely hated. The Time Thief also has a pretty cool cover:
. If you look closely, you can see through the Tar Man.
I had listened to the 2nd one but not read so I hadn't even seen the cover. I like it even better than the 1st one. lol :)
I bought that book and I deeply regret it!! It was really expensive and I bought it just because of the cover but the story is horrible in my opinion... =(I gave it away to my friend but HE didn't like it EITHER :P
What didn't you like about it? I know there are some things that I would have changed. But in general?
Im in with all of you. If the cover is cheesy, who's gonna read it? the cover can tell half the story sometimes. Good cover-most likely a good book. Bad cover-sometimes a good book

I do look at the cover, but then I flip to the back. Some covers have turned me off though. I did read this book and liked it. I decided to read it despite the cover.

AND don't think i don't get the analogy for the saying. i realize it is talking more about people than books. that what is on the outside is not necessary on the inside.
BUT i must reiterate i do judge books by their cover. i try not to but i do!
