Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Well, I had to start a thread for one of my favorite guilty (not really guilty) pleasures that just started it's new season last night on HBO. True Blood looks like it's going to have another great run!

*****Spoiler for those of you who want to see it and haven't yet************
Eric gets naked. Oh my, maybe it is a little guilty, my pleasure!

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 492 comments Kathy, I love this show but since I don't have HBO, I watch the seasons on DVD. I actually prefer it that way because I don't have to wait a week for the next episode. I just finished watching season 2 and am happy that my 5-yr-old stays away when I'm watching. She calls it my "vampire show."

In season 2, one of the vampires reminded me of David Archuleta from American Idol.

message 3: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) yeah, highlight of the episode was seeing Eric :) all of Eric.

I have to say, I have high expectations for this season. I'm not sure why, because I was super disappointed in last season. I guess I'm just hoping they'll redeem themselves this time around.

I'm curious to see how they'll incorporate Alcide and the werewolves (ESPECIALLY after the way this episode ended!).

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

I sure envy you all watching this. I read all the books and then rented TruBlood from Blockbuster but I have to wait. I prefer Bill to Eric.

message 5: by Mona (new)

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 492 comments Alice, I like them both. But I think my favorite character is Sam Merlotte.

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 492 comments Oh, and in July's issue of INSTYLE magazine, they have a feature on Sam Moyer(Bill Compton).

I also like Sam very much. Wish I could read Instyle but most magazines have too much perfume in them. I am allergic to perfume.

So glad you enjoyed Eric as much as I did. I like Bill and Sam, too, but Eric is the sexy man for me, and he has that whole bad boy thing going for him. Even though I enjoyed last season, I agree that it wasn't my choice of direction for the show either.

Yes, it is definitely an adult show, and if anybody doubted that, Eric's scene last night proved it. Oh, the David Archuleta look-alike was Eric's maker. There was a strong resemblance.

message 10: by Mona (new)

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 492 comments Alice, a lot of people are allergic to perfume. But, if you're a subscriber, like me, you can request scent-free issues.

message 11: by Mona (new)

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 492 comments Kathy, if my daughter is around, I turn it off. Vampire Diaries is not too bad but True Blood has too much sex and profanity.

Yes, I just can never remember Eric's maker's name. But his appearance was kind of anti-climactic for me. I was hoping he would be more dangerous but he was more of a pacifist.

I watched the special features on the DVD too and had to keep telling myself that the "newscasts" were fiction. :)

message 12: by Darkpool (new)

Darkpool | 222 comments Wonder how long before it hits the screens down here in NZ. *drums fingers impatiently* I WILL resist the temptation to watch it online!

message 13: by Mona (new)

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 492 comments Allison & Ryan: I also liked Season 1 more. Maybe because it was a novelty?

message 14: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I felt that season 2 got way too far off the book track. I like that Ball is taking the show in different directions than Harris takes the books, otherwise there'd be no reason to watch, but too far off and the characters don't feel true anymore. Plus, all that havoc caused by Maryann was just too much. The vamps and weres cause quite a bit of turmoil and upset, but it's all kind of "hideable". Maryann thrashed the entire town!

message 15: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments I'm agreeing that Maryann was too much of a departure from the original storylines. I much prefer the vamps and weres. Looks like we will get both this season.

message 16: by Mona (new)

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 492 comments Ryan, the MaryAnn character intrigued me at the end of season 1. But when they started in with all the sex orgy stuff in season 2, it just got to be too much. I still remember the scene with the "hunter's souffle." I'm not a big fan of Tara neither. They could have gotten an actress that was more appealing. Anyone one would have been better.

Kandice, I never read any of the books just like I don't read the Dexter books but love the show.

message 17: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I think Ball only introduced Tara's mother so he could add the "Voodoo" bit. People seem to expect it from a show set in that locale, and how else would he have introduced it? I don't like Tara or her mother all that much either.

message 18: by Mona (new)

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 492 comments Ryan: I agree that Tara was good as a sidekick/friend but she really had a big role in season 2(too big IMO) and yes, her mother is grating. I do like Lafayette and am glad he's back.

Kandice: You have a point about the "voodoo." I didn't think about that. Ball needs to find a way to write them out of the show.

message 19: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I finally watched the first episode today, and could not agree more that they just need to go. I love Lafayette, but those two are just...ick! Problem is that we know Tara will be around at least this season since Franklin Mott has been cast (James Frain).

*sigh*

message 20: by Mona (new)

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 492 comments Kandice: The whole season?! ugh! How about Tara' mother?

message 21: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Not sure about her, but I kind of saw her "flirtations" with the minister as foreshadowing. I am hoping to be wrong, but...My guess is that as long as Tara is in the picture we get her mom at least some. Blech

message 22: by Mona (new)

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 492 comments Kandice: Less is more on both accounts.

message 23: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments I agree about Tara. This season didn't start out with any promise for making her character more appealing. Now, if she were to be made into a vampire, that might work. She's just such a combative, whinny, self-pitying character. Ball really needs to work on he and her mother.

message 24: by Mona (new)

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 492 comments Kathy, there's an idea! Tara would make a nasty-looking vampire. Maybe she can bite her mom? I know, it's mean. But most vampires don't feel right?

message 25: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Mona wrote: "Kathy, there's an idea! Tara would make a nasty-looking vampire. Maybe she can bite her mom? I know, it's mean. But most vampires don't feel right?"

LOL!

message 26: by Mona (new)

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 492 comments It was just a thought. I'm sure Kandice, Ryan, you, and I are not the only fans of the show that don't care for hese characters. Ball should really start listening.

The creator of DEXTER did and wrote out a character that fans didn't like.

message 27: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Well, I read the books and watch the show, and have quit comparing the two, but I would definitely be happier if Ball got rid of those two. He listens to fans somewhat, because Lafayette dies in book 2 (maybe even 1) but because watchers liked his character so much, Ball kept him alive on the show.

message 28: by Mona (new)

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 492 comments Kandice, good, now Ball has to find a way to get rid of Tara and her mom.

message 29: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments I saw some great previews of True Blood on HBO tonight. Can't wait for Sunday!

message 30: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments It was a bit bloody/gory tonight, wasn't it? Not that I didn't still love it.

message 31: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) I was thinking the same thing. They must have a big budget for corn syrup and food coloring:)

message 33: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (literaryfeline) I'm so glad they're using real wolves as the werewolves. It makes it look much more believable. Well, you know what I mean. LOL

message 34: by Mona (new)

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 492 comments Literary Feline, I usually watch True Blood when the seasons come out on DVD. I know what you mean by the use of real wolves as the werewolves.

Sometimes when they use CG, the creatures look like those taxidermist ones.

message 35: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (literaryfeline) Mona wrote: Sometimes when they use CG, the creatures look like those taxidermist ones"

Oh my yes! That's exactly what the CG ones look like more often than not.

I watch a few shows on DVD too--I actually prefer it that way. I'm just not patient enough to wait for True Blood to come out on DVD. :-)

message 36: by Darkpool (new)

Darkpool | 222 comments Oooh! Season 3 ep 1 starting here.... NOW! *runs off to watch*

LF: I also prefer to watch shows on DVD because I don't like to wait a week before the next episode airs. Although it's hard to wait for the shows to come out on DVD,I find the wait for the DVD to be easier somehow.

Right now I am in line at the library for DEXTER season 4.

Wendy (literaryfeline) Ryan wrote: "I wonder who takes the bone away...?"

Me too! Haha

message 39: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments I had forgotten that there wasn't going to be a new episode on last Sunday, the Fourth. I was disappointed when I turned on the T.V. and realized I had to wait another week, but, hey, it's almost Sunday again. Yay!

message 40: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments I agree, Ryan. I think this season is much better, too. Tonight was really good, except that I wanted Eric's fantasy scene with Sookie to be real.

message 41: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments I'm rather amazed at how they are incorporating the real wolves into the show, too. This past week was really impressive with the wolf on stage.

message 42: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Ryan wrote: "I wanted the fantasy scene bewteen Eric and Sookie to be real, too. And maybe it'll happen, now that Bill has lost his mind and let Sookie go :)"

There's certainly a door open for that now. I feel sorry for Bill, though, having to revert back to the brutality of the old vampire ways. However, the guy who plays the king is doing a great job, even with his brutal ways.

message 43: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Hmm, will Tara become a vampire, will Sookie turn to Alcide or Eric for comfort, will the King marry the Queen, will Jason become a law enforcement officer or wolf bait, will Lafayette find a new interest, will Bill revert or reform, will Sam wish he'd never found his long lost family, will--so many questions to be answered. For me, the show is really interesting this season.

message 44: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Ryan wrote: "Kathy, this season is shaping up to be the best so far I think. During last season I felt like all the various dramas were distracting, but this season they totally made it work, even without Sooki..."

Totally agree, Ryan.

message 45: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 1853 comments Last night I finally got to watch last Sunday's episode. I had to wait and watch it on-demand, as my 9-yr.-old granddaughter was spending a few days with me. TB definitely not appropriate for her. Although the story line is great, what a lot of gore. Ewwwwww! Of course, it is an adult show about vampires and weres, so I'm not really complaining. It does seem to be spewing a lot of blood this season, though.

Yeah, Kathy, when we were watching the seasons on DVD, we always made sure our 5-yr-old was not close by. TB is totally inappropriate for kids because of language, sex, violence, and gore. Luckily, she doesn't like what she calls "mama's vampire show" and keeps her distance.

message 47: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (literaryfeline) I was so excited to see Claudine make an appearance on Sunday's episode. As a fan of the book series, it's fun to see familiar characters pop up. I don't mind the differences between the show and the books at all as they're so different, but it's hard not look for the similarities.

I was happy to see Claudine's appearance, too. It is rather comforting to see these great characters from the books in the show, too. One of my favorite characters, albeit a minor one, is Pam. They did a great casting job on the show for her. I was so afraid that they might kill her off when she was being held prisoner.

Yeah, I see more trouble down the road for Sam with this ornery bunch.
